(For those who can't see the above:) JUNEAU, Alaska - As surprised fans and critics of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin traded guesses behind her decision to resign more than a year before her term ends, the former vice presidential candidate offered few hints at her political future, except to say she'd gone fishing.
Palin has stayed out of the public eye since she made the announcement Friday, but said in a Twitter update Sunday she was looking forward to joining her family as they commercially fish in Bristol Bay. But to many Alaskans, Palin has been off the job for awhile already, acting as a disengaged presence around the state Capitol since she returned from the presidential campaign trail last year.
"She had a surprising amount of disinterest in state government after November," said state Rep. Les Gara, a Democrat from Anchorage. "This state has a lot of problems, and she showed a complete lack of interest in solving them."
But with all the thorny issues enveloping her in Alaska, Palin's quitting may be more about something simpler: cutting her losses.
Things weren't likely to improve, if she stayed in office. She faces a potential veto override of nearly $29 million in federal stimulus funds for energy efficiency programs, money she had rejected in fear that it could bind the state to federal building mandates.
"Gone fishin'"? Is that anything like "hikin' the Appalachian Trail"?
Since we are all guessing what the real reason for her departure. I vote for criminal investigation coming with her resigning hoping to kick it to the curb..Last two jobs she held, gov. and mayor both ethics and abusing her authority were cited. She has a perchant for lying that boggles the mind to think we would believe her, but deep down this I dont care about picking wolves and babies off, cutting off their left hand, 35,000 for polar bear, Turkey being beheaded in back of her and the hate she gives to over half of americans but begs to run as president is not acceptable.. I know she has a base in America, but, like ol' George, you have to ask, what are they thinking?
No surprise that she checked out after the November defeat. Palin is a child, a little girl who got caught up in the excitement of the 2008 elections without ever realizing why she was there or what she was doing. Most would learn from such an experience, but Ms. Palin has neither the maturity or IQ to do that.
I think she is doing Alaska a grand favor . . . she's in politcs for the perks, publicity and money only . . . no real concern for the people or the state.

It's entertaining to watch her give speeches so completely incoherent that they make Bush Lite look erudite, and leave the listener wishing for a simultaneous translation into Bulgarian, which might be easier to understand than Palin's babbling. The scary part is when she gets cheered by the radical American right, who has no more idea than anyone else what she said, but is driven to a foam-at-the-mouth frenzy by her winks and all those flags she has waving wherever she goes.
The real reason for Sister Sarah resigning is her web site for donations for Sarah Fund. Yes Sarah is looking for money from all her supporters as she travels around the US. Rules wouldn't allow her to get money as Governor but now she can raise enough to cover her current 500,000 dollars in legal fees and have the income she needs to keep her in the style she likes. I'm sure Republicans and others will give freely during this Recession to Sarah and her Family. We wouldn't want Sarah to have to get a real job. As a true Christian Republican Sarah said this has a higher calling from God. Notice how God's name always seems to come up when Republicans are either lying or stealing. Mark Sanford often spoke of God and even said Clinton should resign for having an affair because it's against God's law. Oops Mark Sanford did worse and God has no problem with an 8 year sex run with Mark's soul mate and even Mrs. Sanford thinks it's ok. Funny how God seems to let Republicans do what ever they want but the rest of us well we just can't be excused. Even Congressman King is attacking Michael Jackson for the charges he was found not guilty of, but King supported and protect Mark Foley who admitted molesting kids and still doing it today.

I agree. Palin and her hubby Todd are shallow wannabe's who saw the governorship as an easy win with lots of perks and freebies like travel and houses. He is the voice behind her for sure, and he's probably decided they can GO BIG financially in some other area now that she has found some fame or infamy. In short, they're leeches.
What a massive failure of public civics education. It takes a civics-poor populace to fall for the shallow tricks of a Sarah Palin, voting such an embarrassing dolt into the governor's office.

Poor Palin. She lies and tells half truths. She skirts ethics violations as mayor and governor. She quit both jobs. And she is always the victim. She gets caught or criticized and she is the victim. She drags her children into the limelight, and she is the victim. No matter what she says or does, when she gets called on her violations, she is the victim. She juices up controversy and she is the victim. Does she ever take the blame for anything she does? Never.
But, she is so ignorant of American history, Alaskan history and international politics, that she can be molded by others. And this is what the GOP want. Their own puppet. A female George Bush. And their ethics are just the same. I shudder to think what will happen to what is left of America, if she ever gets her hands on the White House, even as a visitor.

It's going to be a hard sell to the American people to elect this person to any office. I agree that she has played the victim too many times to be credible. She lacks the educational preparation to hold any state or federal position and now she is seemingly derelict in her duties as the elected governor of Alaska.
