WASHINGTON – Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor broke her ankle Monday morning in an airport stumble on her way to Washington to meet with senators who will vote on her confirmation.
The federal judge, who has been keeping up a busy schedule of appointments on Capitol Hill, tripped at New York's LaGuardia Airport before boarding a flight to Washington and sustained a small fracture to her right ankle, the White House said.
She was keeping her six appointments with senators despite the injury, which has her walking with crutches. Sotomayor has set a relentless pace since her Capitol Hill debut last week. By day's end Monday, she will have met with one-third of the Senate in just four days of visits.
The White House is pressing for her quick confirmation, and Sotomayor wasn't pausing much for distractions, even her own trip-up. She even stopped at the White House Monday after her arrival in Washington, before heading to the hospital for an x-ray.
The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates treated and released her, according to a White House statement.
I'm sure the righties will say she's faking this in order to get sympathy.

If she doesn't have much judgement about what goes in her mouth to make her so heavy, then how can she have much judgement about what comes out?
Is Raw Story not going to blog about the defection of two members of the New York State Senate Democrat Party to the GOP caucus over the issue of gay marriage? Both were Hispanics. Let's hope Sotomayor is in line with them on social issues like gay marriage and abortion. The homosexual lobby and radical anti-family leftists keep pushing people too far and this is what happens. Not everyone wants social engineering on this level. Gays have the right to couple or triple or quadruple up without calling it marriage as they see fit, so long as children aren't part of the equation, but you aren't going to force God-fearing people to just roll over. Let people vote on this; if the majority approves it, then we can disagree but accept the majority will. But radical members of the judiciary or Democrat Party trying to turn the US into some frightful country isn't going to work, as these two brave men demonstrated today.
The reason why Laura Bush and other Republicans endorse Sotomayor is because they know she will be the Republicans' revenge for Souter becoming one of the two most liberal judges on the Supreme Court. Obama knows that also. She'll be another Alito. And forget about equality for gays.
The Supremne Court died in 2000 when it betrayed the Consitution and that's why Souter doesn't want to be a part of it. I don't blame him. I salute him.
