Right wing blogs cheer violence by Iran protesters

Weasel Zippers calls it the "feel good video of the day."

Gateway Pundit raves that it's the "best Iran protest video ever."

Both right leaning blogs are psyched about a video that Fox News Channel ran, which was posted on YouTube under the headline, "Iranian Protesters Beat the Living Crap Out of the Basij."

Gateway Pundit writes, "Get yourself a cool drink... Sit back... Press play and enjoy...It's a beautiful thing!"

Personally speaking, I'm appalled that anyone could cheer a mob kicking a guy on the ground, but I guess that's why I'm just a silly liberal who admires the kind of non-violent protests practiced by Dr. Martin Luther King and Gandhi.

Should the U.S. Gov. support the Iranians people morally or politically?

    .

  2. The right-wing blogs have been baffling to say the least. Some are wanting more U.S. involvement, some are applauding the violence, and others are just using the conflict as a political tool to attack Barack Obama. For all their ranting on the situation, they fail to recognize that we cannot fix this, the protesters have made the decision that this is their fight.

  3. Mark

That's why much of the "right" is for torture. They're not as interested in getting accurate information as just beating somebody up for revenge, or for fun. There is an animal instinct in all humans to do that to someone who has wronged you, but it serves no one but the animal part of us. It does not create peace it perpetuates war. That's why peaceful protest works, but you can't be weak and give in to aggression. It takes a lot more strength to hold your fist than to let it go.

The right preaches so much about religion but they're the first to ignore its teachings. Peaceful protest (not hurting someone that is hurting you) is HARD! It's very difficult, but that's how Jesus (or pick your religious leader) would tell you how to handle it.

Why do so many "Christians" miss the point, or ignore it?

  4. Gene

Mark you have my vote on that. Well said.

  5. Eric

I'm all for peaceful protest, which is exactly what these people were TRYING to do before the Basij thugs started running at them on motorcycles wielding batons (and worse) on cowardly hit-and-run missions.

Sorry that I can't share in your angst over the Basiji's fate, and yes, I'll cheer them on, too.

  6. Tjenkins

Maybe you haven't heard but that poor guy is part of a militia that has been roaming the streets murdering people for having the temerity to protest their election being stolen. Getting beat and kicked is lenient compared to the atrocities he's committed against his own countrymen.

  7. David Michael from Heimatland, Amerika

Neocon=Nazi I know now how people supported Hitler history repeating itself and we are the new Reich along with the UK and Australia! The Religious Right is drunk with delusions of truths and advocate Romans 13. A favorite of Leader Hitler and today's DHS.

  8. SarahW

Why should they chase down thugs attacking peaceful protestors. So wrong. They should just stand there and let girls like Neda get shot in the heart.

  9. SarahW

Overthrow of tyranny = HITLER. Thats just common sense.

Is this 1953 all over again?

  11. Drew

    You're joking, right?

Oh dear, you aren't. How very sad for you.

Just a hint...taking out after paramilitary thugs who shoot unarmed people isn't violence, it's self-defense.

  12. Oh, absolutely! Those vicious, evil Iranian citizens! They're attacked and slaughtered for conducting peaceful protests, but that doesn't give them the right to now defend themselves. They shouldn't lash out at the murderous basij. They should hold hands with them and sing Kumbaya.
    /sarcasm off

  15. Scott

I'm a flaming liberal in most respects and not a fan of Fox News or violence in general, but I don't have a problem with this at all. Fascist thugs are subject to street justice when regimes start to falter. That's what they signed up for when they joined this militia, and if they didn't know that then, they should have known. Just ask the Tonton Macoutes.

  16. Cary

You're not a Liberal - you're someone who doesn't understand what's going on there. The riots are a fight for Freedom - it's a revolution!

    - A liberal who gets it

  17. Veronica

No surprise here. The repuglicunt's thrive on violence - they whack their winkies, nonstop, over stuff like this - torture, war in Iraq, war in Afghanistan, the assassination of law-abiding citizens ... they're so 'concerned' that the ruling elite in Iran has stolen the election, but they didn't have a problem when they did it in Florida 2000, and Ohio 2004. The repuglicunt's fake outrage is pathetically transparent, at best.

However, if Obama had stepped in this shit, the same repuglicunt's would be whining that he shouldn't involve himself in another country's matters. On the flip side, they're whining that he's not doing enough ... if it weren't so pitiful, it would be laughable.

It's painfully obvious that the repuglicunt's haven't learned their lesson - if Iraq hasn't taught them that sticking our noses in another country's business, nothing ever will.

  18. Cary

"but I guess that’s why I’m just a silly liberal who admires the kind of non-violent protests practiced by Dr. Martin Luther King and Gandhi.

If you're on Twitter, YouTube, Blogspot, or another blog - set your location to Tehran and your time zone to GMT +3.30. Security forces are hunting for bloggers using location/timezone searches. The more people at this location, the more of a logjam it creates for forces trying to shut Iranians’ access to the internet down. Please repost and spread the word.

  21. kneedragger

So...let me see, fighting someone who wants to kill you is bad and evil....

So let's say your house is broken into and the guy is strangling and raping your wife and she's crying out to you, "honey please help, stop him, please help me ". But of course using any kind of violence or force would be immoral and so you calmly try to explain to her that your hate of violence prevents you from trying to help her, because if you did you might injure or kill the poor victim of a rapist. But she just keeps screaming and begging you to do something. Finally, you get so mad that you tell her to shut up so she can hear your explanation, and besides she might wake the neighbors and maybe even injure the poor fellows ear drums.

Well, I guess that's what mush for brains will get you. I just hope nothing bad ever happens that requires you libs to do something.

  22. Have to put in my two cents here. It's not the fact that street justice is being meted out to this particular Basij. It's the fact that people are *enjoying* watching someone being beaten up. I agree that fighting back and punishing these fascist thugs IS self-defense. But if you have a shred of humanity in you, you accept that it is happening and that it is justified. You don't drool over it as if it were porn. THAT's what is so objectionable about rightwingnuttia's reaction to this video. You know they're sitting in their armchairs fapping over this, and that's sick. Summary justice must be meted out to those who attack peaceful protesters. That is the right of the attacked, to defend themselves. But *enjoying* watching someone be kicked, beaten, and injured, regardless of that person's politics - that is wrong.

  23. kneedragger, you need to change your "knees" to "knuckles." There is nobody, regardless of their political persuasion, who will not attack anyone who is attacking them or their loved ones. But that's not the issue with this video, is it? We all feel a secret thrill when we see that peaceful people fight back against those who attack them. But we don't enjoy torturing or beating others. The right thing to do is to put the Basij, if one can get one's hands on them, in a position where they can't hurt one or one's fellow protesters any more. If they need to be killed, then kill them. What appalls me is that you actually enjoy watching someone be beaten up. That is not humane, or funny. Sure, I'd beat the guy up in a heartbeat too. But I would do it the way I would discipline my dog or kick the shit out of some guy who tried to hurt my wife or kid. There is nothing enjoyable about it, it is a necessary action.

  24. K

It makes perfect sense to me. Right wingers see themselves as the protestors--striking back at an oppressive regime. The analogy doesn't work, of course, but then, I don't live on the bizarro world inhabited by Glenn Beck and company.

  25. Leftist Imperialists lie YOU should stay away from our cause in iran

  26. Tjenkins

    @thepoliticalcat

The fact that your post even MENTIONS violence makes me "fap"to it. I FAPFAPFAP to violence all day long FAPFAFAP that's what we do, we love violence FAPFAPFAP.

P.S. you're a fucking moron, go crawl back to the warm embrace of your mom's vagina.

  27. Cary

The videos are hard to watch. However, they are important because they keep us keyed into the events that are happening in that country, far better than a detached or filtered news story ever could, especially when their government is doing all it can to suppress the truth from getting out. It's not about "enjoying" the violence, but thrilling in the fact that people are fighting for freedom at any cost.

  28. Pablo

What they need is some daisies so that when the basiji start beating them, they can just hand them a daisy and everything will be all right. Or if they're shooting them, someone can just stick a daisy in the gun barrel and the basiji shooter will laugh, put the gun down and give the protester a hug.

And if things still escalate, it's time for the next level weapon: puppies. Oh wait, dogs are haram. Make that kittens.

You go, Ron. All you need is love. And complete moral supremacy.

  29. DaveS

You guys should really try to actually understand and intellectually weigh what the "other side" says sometime, rather than producing this this sort of predictably indulgent, self-affirming nonsense.

Is this 1953 all over again?
    -----------

Yes ... and repeated in the 1970's when we choreographed the Iranian revolutions which ousted our personal puppet, the Shah who decided he had enough of being a despotic puppet against his nation for the Us of A's benefit.

Behind all the news is yet another story that got lost in the morass these last few days

.... two al Qaeda/Taliban big wigs defected from the Taliban in Afghanistan and being debriefed

....reported that the even BIGGER Mr Big of Afghani Taliban, their boss, was being paid BY the US and Israel to bomb mosques and recruit children for suicide missions .... and they uncovered the scam we set up...

to....create chaos and enough retaliatory violence that makes it look that the US is required to BE in Afghanistan to quell violence (we manufactured)

thanks to that oil pipeline we signed up for the first week we were in Kabul . . the pipeline from Russia scraped through Afghanistan keeps flowing for our oil barons protected by our tax funded military since the true bottom line is:

the Afghani's didn't want the damages to their nation that pipelines create so there we are, killing and killing and killing just so some CEO's bonus is all the more plump.

  31. Satan Claws

"You're not a Liberal - you're someone who doesn't understand what's going on there" - and coverage of it is pure propaganda so how could you? Twitter? Iran isn't filled with liberals either and I'll bet they understand better than you. How is Mousavi freedom? Colored Burkas instead of black? Big fucking deal. Your faux concern about the plight of Iranians sounsd pretty fresh and new. Never heard a peep from you 'freedom lovers' when Saparmurat Niyazov named himself president for life. Where's your concern for Mubarak, presdident for life? I could go on for a long time but your concern seems contrived and insincere.

"The riots are a fight for Freedom - it's a revolution!" - Rioting results in violence, no freedom. I get a phony feeling from you.

"If you're on Twitter, YouTube, Blogspot, or another blog - set your location to Tehran and your time zone to GMT +3.30. Security forces are hunting for bloggers using location/timezone searches. The more people at this location, the more of a logjam it creates for forces trying to shut Iranians’ access to the internet down. Please repost and spread the word." - This is laughable, what's the source of this information? Some whacko?

"As a liberal, I'm embarrassed to read this." - As a liberal, you should be embarrased to be such a dupe.

    Merry shitmas.

  32. Tony Locke

As a so called "right-wing Christian", I'm proud to see oppressors getting what they deserve. These are men and women possessed of incredible courage. They are putting their lives on the line to tell the mullahs and the thugs that run their nation that they aren't going to take this election theft lying down. Imagine if the German people had risen up against Hitler and refuted his evil plans. Imagine the Spanish rising up against the Inquisition, ready to put blood and body on the line to defend their freedom. These protestors are no less brave. The moment called them to action, and they have answered it in spades.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that some of these protestors are looking at Iraq and saying to themselves, "They can do it, they can now choose their own way. So can we." I know there are few on this site that will agree with me because it will mean George Bush's overarching endgame was correct, and heaven forbid Bush was ever right about anything.

  33. CurlyMoe&Obama

Propaganda efforts by the US government against its own citizens ALWAYS come in two streams.

One for the right wing bible thumping gun nuts (Bush lovers) and another stream for well meaning liberals.
Raw is right to point out how the right wing stream celebrates violence with very simplistic coverage of facts. It is what those people need to hear so they can be manipulated.
For the Obama worshipers (every bit as susceptible to the lies of their master) there is the type of coverage we see from raw, huffpost, and Amy Goodman. They join in on the wall to wall coverage, focus on the chaos and on the apparent uprising of democracy minded youth in Iran. But they dare not scratch the surface or peel even one layer from that onion. If they did, the readers would see an obvious CIA Bush connection consistent with several coups from the past. But we can't count on investigative reporting from them, instead we just get the "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" song tuned to a new melody, one more suited to our pacifist sensibilities.
We are being softened up and conditioned for war against Iran. Many smart Americans (left and right) are now awake and immune to slick propaganda designed to sell them another war. Seeing through the obvious blatant drum beats for war from the right is EASY for most of us. Casting a critical eye to 'our own' media sources is more difficult, and more painful as one realizes they are both selling the same war for the same elites who rule both parties.
I see YOU, raw story. You are a wolf in sheep's clothing.

  34. Cary

Satan Claws, I have an Iranian-American friend with family over there. You don't know me, so you've no idea what my past concerns have been, nor can you judge my sincerity. If you've no actual retorts with information, instead of ad hominem rhetoric and assumptions, I'll consider this exchange over.

GET FACTS. START THINKING FOR YOURSELVES

    One P O'd Libural!

  36. Cary

Anyone who thinks that standing up to fight your oppressors doesn't lead to freedom, should go back and read an American history book.

  37. Elric66

What would you have the protesters do after they are beaten and murdered after protesting peacefully?

And Gandhi wouldnt have lasted 5 minutes in the streets of Tehran.

  38. JAG

It is sad to see a man beaten as he is imploring mercy, but when that man has been one of the elements who, so far, have killed at least 18 non-violent, unarmed protesters, it makes one think. These protesters do have a right to vent their frustration. Not in "Cheering them on" but in asserting their position as rightful citizens in their nation. Their votes were stolen, they chose peaceful protest but the RELIGIOUS HIERARCHY chose the path of violence.
Let this be a model for a potential path in America. We have had our election stolen at least ONCE in 2000 and Americans sheepishly stood by and let it happen. We had our voice silenced by choice in the invocation of WAR (Iraq). TWICE Americans have acquiesced to the government's erroneous process. If Americans had stood up and strongly voiced (possibly with violence) these misdeeds, maybe America would have been better off, so Americans must not be judgmental of this situation without being in its midst, which we were, and chose the passive, safe way out.
Let this be a model for America's future. Do we let government and religion step closer hand in hand to dictate our lives, freedoms rights and morals? Here in California, the religios right is pushing to re-criminalize the Gay culture, then what next? RELIGION must be stopped. Iran and Iraq or Saudi Arabia show us where America could go. Don't be so condemning of a few pummelings. Condemn the right wing for being so festive about it. And condemn Americans for not standing up and saying something sooner.

  39. Veronica

    Well said, JAG.

  40. Cary

And a Liberal Democratic majority Congress was one vote short of unanimous support for the protesters: (the one dissenting vote was a Republican)

    http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jun/20/congress-votes-to-stand-by-protesters-in-iran/

  41. Elric66

."We have had our election stolen at least ONCE in 2000 and Americans sheepishly stood by and let it happen."

Funny you failed to mention ACORN. You know, the ACORN thats been charged with voter fraud in numerous states who by "coincidence" was trained by Obama.

  42. Veronica

    Elric66

"Funny you failed to mention ACORN. You know, the ACORN thats been charged with voter fraud in numerous states who by "coincidence" was trained by Obama."

Seriously, dude? ACORN was charged with REGISTRATION fraud, not VOTER fraud. BIG difference, sport.

LOL - herein lies the difference:

REGISTRATION fraud: Registering a new voter named Mickey Mouse.

VOTER fraud: Mickey Mouse being allowed to vote ...

Also, please be advised that REGISTRATION fraud is not limited to ACORN:

"The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday evening that Mark Anthony Jacoby, owner of a for-profit group called Young Political Majors (YPM), pled guilty to voter registration fraud in Los Angeles. Brad Freidman of the BradBlog has been keeping tabs on Jacoby for months, and wrote yesterday:

"Jacoby and Young Political Majors were hired by the California Republican Party to head up their voter registration efforts in the state. Jacoby had been arrested for Voter Registration Fraud last October, smack dab during the media's orgasmic heights of last year's phony GOP ACORN "Voter Fraud" hoax, even as Fox "News" (and the other news outlets who similarly fell for the scam) were going wall-to-wall with their unsupported insinuations about voter fraud by ACORN, Democrats and Obama."
Jacoby's YPM firm has been the go-to operation for GOP registration and petition drives in several states. In 2008 the California Republican Party hired YPM to register tens of thousands of voters, paying $7-12 for every Californian they registered as a member of the GOP, according to the Los Angeles Times last fall. "Jacoby's arrest ...came after dozens of voters said they were duped into registering as Republicans by people employed by YPM. The voters said YPM workers tricked them by saying they were signing a petition to toughen penalties against child molesters."
    http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/blogs/project_vote/2009/06/living-in-glass-houses-the-gop.php?ref=reccafe

Same exact thing, different political ideology.

  43. "...but I guess that's why I'm just a silly liberal who admires the kind of non-violent protests practiced by Dr. Martin Luther King and Gandhi."

Naaaa, What makes you a silly liberal is that you are in fact of omission, condoning those who shot an UNARMED, INNOCENT WOMAN IN COLD BLOOD!

And yet, you sit and DEFEND and feel sorrow for the group WHO SHOT THAT INNOCENT WOMAN.

If it were just a few people protesting, Iran's regime wouldn't be so darned worried.
They fixed the election and the masses are showing that they are not going to take it lying down.

I just find it a bit ironic that a group of people who sat and b*tched and moaned that Bush stole the election, has the nerve to sit and say "Fair Election" from an election SO OBVIOUSLY RIGGED!

    Just ... WOW!

    SILLY SILLY CONTRADICTORY LIBERALS!!!!

  44. Elric66

Tell us some more lies Veronica. At least you didnt deny Obama's involvement with ACORN. And how come he had the voter intimidation case thrown out involving the Black Panthers in Phili? And why does Obama feel that groups like ACORN deserve billions in tax payer money and how come he feels they should help out in the census?

  45. David Michael from Heimatland, Amerika

I didn't respond to your silly assertion about Obama and ACORN because, well, it's silly. Unless, of course, you can provide proof that Obama has 'trained' ACORN, as well as giving 'groups like ACORN' 'billions in tax payer money.' Oh, and don't say it was in the stimulus package - sure, it's in the package, just like that 'high speed' rail system from LA to Sin City ... LOL.

Ah, you make an incorrect assumption, sport, regarding the Black Panthers. I never said I agreed with EVERYTHING the Obama Administration does. See, unlike you, I don't follow in line with my political leaders on each and every issue. See, unlike you, and the rest of the remaining members of the GOP, I put people before party.

  53. Many respondents to this article are freely ignoring one simple fact:

Your opinion on the situation has no intrinsic meaning. You will NOT change one god damn thing over there. All you are doing is padding your hours in inept rage and bile aimed at your own countrymen, never stopping to realize just how very DIFFERENT life is for a civilian in Iran, versus Anywhere, USA.

You're all simply too self-righteous, BOTH SIDES, to get the point.

They live under constant tyranny. They face constant terror and violence from birth. They are fed up.

Unlike in THIS country, where we whine about it on a web page, those people over there are using their status as "FED UP" and they are DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Dear GOD you people make me sick...

  54. Cary

"Dear GOD you people make me sick..."

How ironic - you rail against exactly what you're railing about! You might do well to consider that your illness may be self inflicted.

  55. WTF Capital Investments

I'm doing a little more than simply treading water and commenting on blogs. I'm actually trading against the regime. Are you? You could be.

I want to trade directly with these Iranians in the streets. They are my people. I want to speak with them. I want to learn with them. I want to taste their food. I want to break bread with them knowing that they choose their leaders as I choose mine.

    Guardian councils? Out.
    Supreme councils? Out.

    Language, culture, people, trade.

Please continue to post material from right wing blogs. You'll increase your readership.

    Cheerio.

  56. WTF Capital Investments

[You will NOT change one god damn thing over there.]

Tell that to the millions that counted the days behind the iron curtain and lived to tell the stories of the tyranny of mismanagement of resources of the many for the benefit of the Communist and apologist few.

They asked for help. All the west had to do was to listen and answer back.

These Iranians in the streets are brave and courageous, but it is an undeniable fact. They are the future of Iran. The Iranian government is just now starting to listen to them. Isn't it obvious that we should be as well?

  57. Jhoffa_

I say beat the shit out of all who support Mahmoud. He's Iran's Bush. I'm just a little ashamed that our protests were peaceful when Bush stole our election twice.

  62. Melodic_Metal

It really is sad to see how liberals just can't grasp that these people are fighting BACK. am cheering the Iranian people. They have made it very clear they no longer want 'Ineedajihad' as their leader. Come on folks! This regime has stated it wants to wipe out entire countries. Israel and the US. Shouldn't your humane 'Martin Luther King and Ghandi' side say there something terribly wrong with that? You are pacifists that are BLIND. Unfortunately, your side is damaging the entire world with your 'feel good don't do a god damned thing' attitude.

  63. Melodic_Metal

Oh and liberals, you need to get a grip. No elections were stolen form you. Calling us Rpeblicunts and the like just proves how bankrupt of thought you really are. Here you are with every branch of gubmint in your possession and you STILL bitch about shit that didn't even HAPPEN! Get a fucking grip!

  64. Cary

The 2000 election didn't go the way I wanted, but I can hardly consider it a "stolen election". It was close, and some people in one state didn't know how to punch holes properly, but the largely Democrat appointed Supreme Court made the final call - far different from the obvious voting fraud in Iran - where there were votes in MANY areas which far outnumbered actual voters. These people are fighting for something real - and it is up to us to support them, if not with our actions, at least with our words, attention, and respect. We cheer a boxing match, a hockey game, why not fellow humans fighting for freedom?

  65. http://weareallneda.com/

  66. JAG

    Melodic Metal.
"Fighting back". YOU 'get a grip'. Remember the 1968 Dem Convention protests in Chicago? THAT was "Libruls" taking to the streets, being pummeled by YOUR fascista conservative Mayor Daly and his Cops. And KENT STATE? MORE "Libruls" Taking to protest and getting KILLED as result by your Conservative Fascista po-lice. And the Berkeley Anti War protests? THOSE were anti war "Libruls" taking to the streets and being teargassed by your Fascista po-lice. Libruls" led anti-establishment demonstrations through the 60's. When "libruls' fight back, they're terrorists in Repulsicans' perspective. Liberals fight policy, no matter WHICH side promotes it, if it's wrong. And when Dems demanded a recount, whole precints were sealed off by Repulsican precinct committees.
And Repulsican RNC members phone jammed the entire Dem campaign in the 2004 elections in Mi., the charges STUCK. And they have their fair share of registration fraud charges also. Repulsicans get a charge out of the likes of Limbaugh (the Doper) and the FUX newzoid channel. All fabrication hate mongering. And personally, I AM supporting the Iranian protests. This is one "Librul" who advoates the vote and Power to the People. Including the removal or religion from the governmental power structure.

Americans DID rise up against our oppressors.... from 1775 until 1783. Many gave life and limb. It's why we enjoy a free country today. Now it's their turn.

  72. [...] I know. My head exploded, too. How do you even begin to have a discussion about revolution with people who think that rights are granted by governments? You don’t. Or I don’t. I can’t. I find most people aren’t receptive to the amount of schooling that goes into changing that particular assumption. And they wouldn’t listen to me anyway, because I fall into a category of thinkers that they dismiss out of hand for being happy at people taking up arms at their oppressors. [...]

I guess you guys missed the fact the the guy being beat up is a Revolutionary Guard. Maybe it's the "Revolutionary" part that's got you all confused but he was an Iranian thug carrying out Amneedastraightjacketajad's orders the people beating him up were Iranian citizens tired of the thuggery. Wouldn't expect any of you to know what it is to fight back. Many of you would never have the courage to fight for what's right. You'd all just sit back and get thes craps and be happy.

Okay. I give up. You've convinced me. I knew there was something wrong when I stuck my nose in South Africa's internal affairs in the 80s and demanded, via economic boycotts, that Nelson Mandela be released from jail. Bush and the jews made me do it. Sadly, it worked.
