McCain rejects diplomatic approach, slams Obama on Iran

Despite growing evidence that the Iranian government is already using "US interference" as a pretext for holding on to power, Sen. John McCain insists that that is the right thing to do, and the former two-time Republican presidential candidate has gone on the news-show circuit to criticize President Obama's approach to the unrest in Iran.

"I do not believe the president is taking the leadership that is incumbent upon an American president ... and that is to advocate for human rights and freedoms," Sen. McCain said on CNN's American Morning.

McCain rejected Obama's declaration that it would be unwise to "meddle" in Iranian affairs.

CNN's John Roberts challenged McCain's position, quoting from Moorhead Kennedy, a former US diplomat and one of the Americans held hostage during the Iranian crisis in 1979, that the "best thing for the United States to do is to shut up," but McCain rejected that view.

The Arizona senator also went on Fox News on Wednesday, and on NBC's Today show, where he said Obama should declare last week's poll in Iran as a "sham of an election."

McCain knows all about meddling, since he is a meddlesome old coot himself.

"We're all Georgians" McCain, who "suspended his campaign" for a day, to fix the mess he caused. This fool is beyond simply "corporate", he's a flaming idiot.

McCain, you worthless has been lying supposed war hero, go into a corner, stick the barrel of a .357 mag in your mouth and then pull the trigger so you then blow your two remaining brain cells into oblivion.

    Misdirection.
Like AIPAC does not have us in it up to our nose.
Bolton & McCain are using the same keyword: "sham"

Saying or doing anything prematurely would be incredibly short-sighted and foolish. Just the way John McCain ran his campaign. Just the George Bush got us into Iraq.

It seems that anger has become the most persistant Republican value.

  6. Baldrick

He was supposed to have the advantage in foreign affairs. What a fool.

  7. dennycrane

We should have "meddled" when traitor Mccain ratted his fellow comrades out in Vietnam. It might have kept him captive a little longer to save us all the money that he sucked off of us as a leech...shut the fuck up.

  8. forrreal

What's wrong John, you voted against her before. Surely you are not afraid of losing the tiny Hispanic vote in Arizona or even the country next time around. Alaskan votes will overcome all that!

McCain (and all the neo-cons) were singing.."Bomb, bomb bomb Iran" long before the Iranians ever decided enough was enough (and this would be their perfect excuse for "intervening"!)....somehow I am positive these old war-mongers feel they will politically, financially or personally gain from such an endeavor...what.. world dominance..? large amounts of money from stock options in "defense contractor corporations"...? Winning elections as the "great protectors" of American freedoms and/or democracy....? Never mind the fact that they are to old or to chicken-sh*t (with enough political clout (or money) to make sure no one they care about would really be in harms way) to put their "lives on the line"...........

  10. When, oh when, will this dottering old blithering shithead shut up. He isn't the loyal opposition to anything; rather he's a turdfaced, syrupy tongued, bastard asshole . Remember, he thought Sarah "where's the beef" Palin would make a fine President. I suggest he head for the nearest rest home and dumbly wander into the sunset. What a jerk!

Bomb...bomb...bomb...bomb...bomb McCain. Why can't this old fart just go away quietly? Yes John, we understand that you felt entitled to the presidency, but the american people decided they didn't want a lunatic in the whitehouse for another four years. The previous eight years of insanity were enough. Bitter old man........begone.

The mindset of republicans and little boys that have never grown up..

Every time this asshole opens his mouth I remember why I didn't vote for him. "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran"

I wish that this web site could cross connect with one of the insane right wing sites so we could all get into a good argument, but not have to go it alone. Unfortunately, in this country there are people who absolutely agree with that wrongheaded philosophy, and they are legion. Common sense doesn't have a chance!

McCain and his neo-con buddies do NOT want the Iranian revolt to succeed. They desire nothing more than for the Iranian regime to crack down hard on the protestors, and for Ahmadinejad's position to be strengthened. They want this because they cannot accept any situation which would make a military attack on Iran, by either Israel or the U.S., less likely; they have invested far too much, both in terms of political capital and in terms of financial capital, and they have far too much to gain financially and politically from such an attack to accept anything less than an Iranian regime with an active nuclear program.

So McCain and the neo-cons urging of Obama to intervene directly in the Iranian revolt is easily explained. It's nothing short of treason.

And take your former running primate with you, please.

I am not a big fan of Obama but, the know-nothing McStain should STFU. The grandstanding unprincipled opportunist should retire already.

Cindy, the old guy is feeling cranky again, would you please check his diapers.

  19. ckerst

What exacltly would McCain do differently? He's always chucking stones but never seems to have a detailed working plan.

  20. john

Sorry. Johnny Bob Sarah was your last sexual contest based on your "macho" image. Your genital accouterments are hanging a bit low this time out.

  21. grindermonkey

This "do no harm" approach of Obama's with regard to the established order of the corrupt banking system seems to be the blueprint approach to all matters including Iran. McCain makes a good case for something at least more specific if not stronger regarding this matter. Invasion is obviously "off the table."

But no worry, France will fill the vacuum.

  22. Govtimbo

grindermonkey, wtf are you talking about. mccain is an idiot, the Iranian thugs are already using Obama's supposed 'intervention' as a pretext for violent crackdowns on the opposition.

Or maybe that's what the neocons want, after all - there's a lot at stake, financially and politically...

  23. What's worse, McCain saying we should meddle, or Obama saying we shouldn't, when the likelihood that the CIA has stopped its covert ops in Iran since 1/20/2009 is nil?
