Iranian military said to charge family of dead son 'bullet fee'

The family of Kaveh Alipour, a 19-year-old Iranian killed amidst protests in Tehran, was allegedly charged a "bullet fee" by Iranian security forces, according to a report Tuesday in the Wall Street Journal.

"Upon learning of his son's death, the elder Mr. Alipour was told the family had to pay an equivalent of $3,000 as a "bullet fee"—a fee for the bullet used by security forces—before taking the body back," relatives purportedly told the Journal.

Details of Alipour's death remain unclear -- he was apparently not part of the protests and may have been killed in crossfire.

Mr. Alipour told officials that his entire possessions wouldn't amount to $3,000, arguing they should waive the fee because he is a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war. According to relatives, morgue officials finally agreed, but demanded that the family do no funeral or burial in Tehran. Kaveh Alipour's body was quietly transported to the city of Rasht, where there is family.

Everyone in the neighborhood knows the Alipour family. In addition to their slain son, they have two daughters. Shopkeepers and businesses pasted a photocopied picture of Mr. Alipour on their walls and windows. In the picture, the young man is shown wearing a dark suit with gray stripes. His black hair is combed neatly to a side and he has a half-smile.

"He was so full of life. He had so many dreams," said Arsalan, a taxi driver who knew the family was quoted as saying. "What did he die for?"

Arrogance to the point of absurdity. Some people need to look outside their window.

If anybody believes an ounce of this disinfo they want their heads examined.

Read this to get up to speed.

    Clearer now?

  3. Phil

I'm sorry Barton, but I tried reading that article before I had to skim through it. What does it have to do with this family being charged a bullet fee? It's over a year old and seems to have no connection to this story at all. Are you even posting on the right article? Am I missing something here.

Yes, Barton, that explains the bullet fee for sure. Crystal clear.

Well Phil, I had hoped that the subtitle "The Bush Administration steps up its secret moves against Iran" would give some indication of what I meant, had you read further you would see that $400M was allocated to this program, remember all the provably false twittering over the elections, that would be the tip of the iceberg, the rent a mobs being the more visible.

Also did you notice the source was "A report in the Wall Street Journal" since when they have been bastions of truth? They are however part of the US/UK intel group that contributed to the overthrow of a democratically elected leader in 1953 and have been interfering ever since.

Lets just look at who's a member of the coalition for democracy in Iran:-

Michael Ledeen joins with Morris Amitay, vice-president of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs; ex-CIA head James Woolsey; former Reagan administration official Frank Gaffney; former senator Paul Simon; and oil consultant Rob Sobhani to set up a group called the Coalition for Democracy in Iran (CDI). [Sunday Herald (Glasgow), 6/1/2003] CDI says it “fully agrees with President Bush’s inclusion of Iran in the ‘axis of evil’ and supports congressional initiatives to bring about needed change in Iran

Do you think its possible that you are reading propagandised news reports to sway the worlds opinion against Iran (and possibly make military action more acceptable?) Remember the incubator story to justify the Kuwaiti invasion?

Could the "Angel of Freedom" story be another one of those?

  8. Barton

Good summary here for those that are interested in getting a perspective on this.

    Good link Barton #2.

I'm not surprised that commenter # 3 found it too long to read. The dumbing down of America on display. But he probably has all day to watch CNN and other mind numbing propaganda outlets......

Commenter #6 just sticks to the talking points for war and doesn't even pretend to care about what is in the article. What is in that article, fool, is context and the big picture. The idea that clueless morons heap scorn on someone trying to educate others, really does sum up the mindset of the average American these days.

These clowns can't even see through the lies and propaganda of CNN and FOX.
When trusted liberal sources like rawstory, huffpost and Amy Goodman join in on the effort to soften Americans up for a war on Iran, we know we are in trouble.
Keep up the good work Barton!

  10. Joe Gall

The "allegedly" covers it: a clumsy adaptation of Chinese story.

Agit-prop won't work on today's audience if it's not more clever than this.

  11. Jhoffa_

    I call uncorroborated bullshit.. LOUDLY.

  12. Jhoffa_

Give it a few days and Ahmadinejad will be gleefully tossing babies from their hospital incubators and spanking his weiner to child porn while snorting coke and wiping his ass with jew skin from Auschwitz.

I heard he hates country music too..

  13. Pete

Also, they are spearing babies in incubators and then charging the grieving parents a bayonet fee. Why is no one covering this important story?

  14. CurlyMoe&Obama

    Hoffa12, well said!

    LMAO!

A link for those who actually don't understand just how sophisticated the propaganda to sell war to American liberals can be.

what's the problem? did'nt we charge wounded soldiers for damAGED EQUIPMENT after they were wounded in iraq? this country is sssoooooo hypocritical!!!!!!!

You said : "... Amy Goodman [is[ in on the effort to soften Americans up for a war on Iran,

    Reference? A link?

  17. asiliveandbreathe

Yep, this is definitely a recycled Chinese bullet fee story. Our preacher used to use the story from the pulpit to prove how"evil" communism was all the while proving his gullibility.

  18. HortenHordsAHookah

That's right! Forget Raw Story, the Huffington Post, and Amy Goodman. You gotta go with trusted news sources like InfoWars or PrisonPlanet. Because we all know Alex Jones is totally reliable and free from agenda.

  19. Jhoffa_

    >That's right! Forget Raw Story, the Huffington Post, and Amy Goodman. You gotta >go with trusted news sources..

I just got a tweet that Ahmadinejad is cooking babies in his microwave and charging the parents a fee for the electricity!

It HAS to be for real!

    ZOMG! It's a holocaust! ZOMG!!!!

  20. Brian

Wow, you guys just bicker and bicker on this shit. Take it to a private message board if it means that much to you.

I think what's happening here is that during the tenure of the Bush admin it taught perfectly normal people to be uber conspiracy theorists. To look for meaning in ongoing political bullshit. Sure. There might be a connection between Western and Persian affairs, most likely there is. But to completely stage a revolution to the world on behalf of our democratic ideals..... one has to ask, is that so bad?

Perhaps, overall, the secretive motives, conspiracies and covert Government operations will all play out in our favor. One can travel safely through SE Asia, Japan, Germany, Turkey now. So why... would a healthy anti-theocratic movement, bent on overthrowing the BS status quot be such a bad thing?

I think you all are really just afraid of change. Real change. Perhaps your perspectives are skewed. I have found some flood posts from crazy right wingers here on RAW a few times. Maybe it's you guys! :)

Oh and this charging the family for the bullet. Hey, it's a crazy world, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it were true.

  21. CurlyMoe&Obama

C'mon Horton, share that hookah, what are you a freakin Republican?

Actually I have only recently come to the conclusion that Raw is becoming like the lowly huffpost. And clearly they still put up many good informative stories, so there aren't any babies being thrown out with the bath water.

As for your leap of faulty logic and Alex Jones? Sorry to disappoint you but I think he is nothing but a fool or an unwitting puppet of those he supposedly opposes. He is a snake oil salesman who peddles some truth mixed in with his pro gun crap.

If you would like a serious reply, next time be a bit more polite.
    Good news sites IMO are;

    globalresearch.ca
    counterpunch.org
presstv.ir this one has an anti Israel bias, but is a good breaking news site
    projectcensored.org

These sites offer up truth to a point IMO.

    alternet
    the nation
    rawstory
    huffingtonpost
    democracynow.......Amy Goodman

On topics like the CIA, oil wars, civil rights etc, they are good, but they still sell the Obama myth, they sell the continuation of our immoral wars and they actively participate in killing open discussion on 911 truth.

    Fusion #16

Your short rude call for a link sounds like trollish behavior, but I will answer you anyways. Amy helps cover up the Obama sins on torture, corruption and his massive expansion of the Bush wars. She is a 911 truth denier. She helps cover up chemtrails. She actively works to promote Democrats as an honest decent party while she works to discredit third party people like Cynthia McKinney and Ralph Nader. In short, she is one helluva great Democrat and a horrible progressive.
If you are hooked on Obama kool aid, you won't believe on word I just wrote.........too bad for you. If you are genuinely open minded and searching for truth, just pay close attention to Amy for a few months and decide for yourself.
You might want to google her funding sources too. Good luck.

  22. Brian

    I farted.

    hu-hu.

  23. No way do I believe this story.

  24. Phil

Barton (#7), this story may very well be false, but I wish you had made the connection right away; I think it was a bit clearer for you than for a reader who wasn't already aware of the link you wanted to make. However, I find it difficult being a total believer in a 100% propagandist agenda. How could I sleep at night?

This goes for every response: It seems like so many people get off on trying to discredit any news source that doesn't agree with their active view of the way the world operates. If you look hard enough, you can always find another news story to cast doubt on one you don't like. So how do I trust any journalist, whether mainstream or not? I suppose the only way for me to ever know whether anything is true is to go witness everything for myself, but given the impossibility of that task, are my only options to "drink the kool-aid" of whatever media sources I read or to never believe another news story again?

CurlyMoe&Obama (#9), does it make you feel like a bigger person to talk down to everybody with whom you disagree? My reluctance to read the article had nothing to do with the "dumbing down of America" (thanks for the lesson in condescension, though), and everything to do with Barton's quick link and a fuzzy connection that I'm glad he explained in his second post. "Clueless scum heap scorn on others"......I suppose you think it's perfectly acceptable for you to heap scorn instead, right? That's your prerogative since you're obviously never mistaken?

Brian (#20), you have a point on the conspiracy theory idea, but just to a degree. I don't think that necessarily means that no conspiracy is ever possible, just that we need to be careful getting carried away. The difficulty I have is in believing that every news story like this is totally fabricated. If that's the case, then what's to stop me from believing that everything about 9/11, the economic downturn, etc., is government propaganda to keep the truth from me (though a good bit most certainly is, and I'm furious with most media sources for ignoring it)? Shoot, I may as well assume we're already in an Orwellian society and I should just hide under the covers and wait for the authorities to secretly whisk me away and then tell the public I died of a drug overdose. The paranoia can become crippling. Should I just ignore all news and just live my life with no attempt to connect to the rest of the world? It may be easier to have an "all or nothing" viewpoint, but that doesn't necessarily make it right.

CurlyMoe&Obama (#21), once again the massive display of contempt overshadows what otherwise had potential to sway some people on the fence. And dude, Fusion was not being rude at all. Why should he type five sentences to ask for sources? It's a perfectly reasonable request and you still could provide a link. I don't doubt that you have read some articles corroborating your points, but I could just as easily say projectcensored.org advocates white supremacist behavior and supports terrorist networks, but if I provide no evidence then my argument doesn't carry much weight.

  25. Phil

(for the record, to cut off potential complaints at the head, I am a fan of project censored, though I had forgotten about them - thanks for reminding me!)

  26. Satan

"The details of his death remain unclear. He had been alone. Neighbors and relatives think that he got trapped in the crossfire. He wasn't politically active and hadn't taken part in the turmoil that has rocked Iran for over a week, they said." - These martyrs the Iranian government are allegedly murdering seem to be the perfect martyrs for western consumption. Why would they target some random guy rather than the guy throwing the rock? Sounds like b.s..

"Mr. Alipour told officials that his entire possessions wouldn't amount to $3,000, arguing they should waive the fee because he is a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war. According to relatives, morgue officials finally agreed, but demanded that the family do no funeral or burial in Tehran." - Oh the Morgue collects the bullet fee for the police, yeah, sure.

What this fucking garbage is is the dissemination of propaganda and aiding and abbetting aggression to a non-hostile country. I'll be waiting for more information on this 'bullet fee' story and I'll be there to remind people that this idiotic propaganda was disseminated right here. Don't think saying 'allegedly' once gets you off the hook. You have two choices, truth or lies.

    "HortenHordsAHookah

That's right! Forget Raw Story, the Huffington Post, and Amy Goodman. You gotta go with trusted news sources like InfoWars or PrisonPlanet. Because we all know Alex Jones is totally reliable and free from agenda." - If you're trying to associate those who see this crap as pure propaganda with the likes of propagandists such as Alex Jones then you are one low-life piece of shit, either that or you're a fucking moron. I associate this crap with the Jones crap, we're talking about two sides of the same shitty coin.

Phil24 we agree on some things and not on others.

Your sweeping generalization about people only believing news sources that agree with them is a$$ backwards. I don't go into a story with my mind made up, I read numerous sources and decide what makes sense. My comment listed several sources I trust and several that I visit but don't trust completely. You have ignored all of that and just cast wide dispersions on anyone who questions any news source.
    Nice work.

Your long winded (OK I'm a pot, you're a kettle) reply to Brian 20 could be condensed down to the following:
Conspiracy theories that hurt Bush are good, and all others are for crazy people.

As to your final paragraph, again you make irrelevant points while ignoring the main one. I am not preaching to fusion or being condescending. I explained how I came to view Amy with suspicion and suggested he consider my OPINION and keep a close eye on Amy for a few months and make up his own mind.
Why does that trouble you so?

    CurlyMo&Obama:
Thank for the links. Looking for some fresh air after reading the same crap comments over and over on RS. Just as much hate in these hearts as on the right-wing sites. Right and Left wing hate: two sides of the same sad coin.

Tired of reading my crap comments over and over.

    Guess I should stop typing.

  31. Nixon

    To Moe&Obama,
Thanks for these news sites, i bookmarked them. Let me tell you though speaking through another perspective, I live in Europe, the propaganda eminating from the US is blatant to me. My eyes are so wide open now that I have spent some time away from America, it is amazing.

Some of you should try it, with the luxury of the internet, you can now shut out completely CNN, Faux, MSNBC, Raw, Amy ect... and get all your news sources from abroard, no need to leave the country if you dont have to, after a couple of months of this experiment you will be amazed to see the veil lifted off your eyes when you go back to American media.
