The senator who once famously declared that global warming was the "greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people" has now moved on to President Barack Obama.
In comments made to an Oklahoma news outlet, Sen. James Inhofe (R-KN) declared Obama's speech in Cairo attempting to ameliorate tension between the United States and the Muslim world "un-American," because he referred to the war in Iraq as a "war of choice," "and didn’t criticize Iran for developing a nuclear program."
Inhofe "also criticized the president for suggesting that torture was conducted at the military prison in Guantanamo, saying, 'There has never been a documented case of torture at Guantanamo,'" The Oklahoman wrote.

“I just don’t know whose side he’s on,” Inhofe told the paper.
Inhofe hasn't shied from the limelight over his zealous defense of global warming skeptics. In 2005, in Senate floor speech, he stood by his remarks calling climate change a "hoax" and said that "environmental extremists" were simply using the issue as a fundraising tool.
"Environmental extremists exploit the issue for fundraising purposes, raking in millions of dollars, even using federal taxpayer dollars to finance their campaigns," Inhofe quipped.
"For these groups, the issue of catastrophic global warming is not just a favored fundraising tool," he added. "In truth, it's more fundamental than that. Put simply, man-induced global warming is an article of religious faith. Therefore contending that its central tenets are flawed is, to them, heresy of the most despicable kind."

Therefore, whatever he says, whether you like it or not, is not un-American because it can't be. So what country DOES Inhofe think Obama is from? Now if he said, "That was a real Slovakian speech," he'd be exposing his ignorance in a clearer way. (Not that he knows where Slovakia is.)

I once spent a summer in OK and it is true that there are a lot of "good ol' boys" of the worst kind running loose, some of them from Texas, but there are also a few decent people there, too. I think of a woman who ran a used book store that I patronized frequently who was a progressive minded individual. There were two technicians in the laboratory who realized that the Bush/Cheney line was baloney. There were a couple of carpet baggers from Illinois or someplace who thought along progressive lines, but then there were a lot of people who really are bat shit crazy. At one point a fellow researcher was threatened with a shotgun from a passing pickup just because he is Korean. Many of the people at the local Assembly of God would never pass a valid psychological test to be allowed to carry a gun.

3) Obama assures the telcos get immunity from lawsuits for illegal, Constitutionally-violative wiretapping -- and the rationale we're given is that he didn't want to do anything that would dissuade them from cooperating in these illegal activities in the future. Imagine that!
4) Obama tells us that holding war criminals accountable is "looking backwards" when it is precisely the opposite. Prosecuting war crimes, like NOT granting telco immunity, is designed to PREVENT crimes from recurring in the future. It is one hundred percent concerned with dissuading their repetition. It's not about retribution, and it's not about politics. It's about the sworn duty of our elected officials to protect and defend the Constitution.
4a) Obama is offering plea bargains to the people we tortured, so that the fact that their confessions were the product of torture will never be part of the public record. Military tribunals will proceed just as his predecessors decided. Habeas corpus? That's for pussies.
5) Already we're hearing noises about removing the public option from the health care initiative, which would be yet another cowardly kow-tow to an increasingly vanishing extremist right wing Republican party, for which Obama gets kicked in the nuts as a "thank you." It's all kumbaya and nicey-nice, and we're diluting our agenda in the process, and getting NOTHING in return but bullshit from the Party of No. That's because the Party of No and the Democrats work for the same people, and they ain't us.

I agree with the thrust of your argument about what Obama hasn't done. Problem for me in what you offer is a lack of patience. The man has been President for less than 5 months. Coming off the last 8 years of narcissistic hostility to the Muslim world, Obama's speech in Cairo was a brilliant stroke of diplomacy. Let's give this time to work. Bush fucked SOOOOOO much up that no one, NO ONE can fix this shit in mere months. To use Gitmo as an example of where I think you need to chill a bit, he signed an executive order for its closure. If he just up and closed it now, locked the doors, where would the detainees go? Like it or not, he HAS to work with his fellow politicians. A plan has to be put in place. If you have insight into how this can be done legally, effectively and with respect to jurisprudence, I am, as you say, all ears.

I've watched the arctic ice melt in my own lifetime where the "Northwest Passage" is becoming a reality; glaciers are melting at unprecedented rates and the earth's fresh water supply is at risk in several parts of the world. If this bumpkin from Kansas cannot comprehend the danger of global warming, anything he says should be ignored.
In fact, how does he have any credibility in the Senate? The people in Kansas deserve expert representation in Washington, as global warming has the potential to turn the mid-west into a giant dust-bowl. The farms in the Mid-West are essential to America's production in grain products, and their loss would spell disaster for our country. What am i talking about? The Constitution, what it stands for , whats its purpose,should it be left open for interpretation and by whom.If you know our history and where we came from then you know about oppressive governments and that's what the Constitution is protecting us from. You can amend it but the founding principles should be untouched .The current government believes it can interpitate the Constitution to make it fit what they want to do.Which is to completely take control every aspect of our lives.What kind of car you drive,how big a house you live in,what news media you watch,how much energy you use and what terms do they use to take these from us. Cap and trade, Global warming,climate change,fairness doctrine and they will come with up other terms to facilitate their agenda.And as far as Obama binging UN-American or not is irrelevant(more like un-stopable) but The Senator Inhofe was right about climate change being a hoax.Climate change is a tool for The government to change the American Way of Life.So they can enact cap and trade to destroy the middle class(who will be left to pay off this huge debt but the middle class)we will be left with haves and have nots,guess which one there will be more of.
And how did the previous administration make out with respect to upholding and defending the Constitution? Not so well, I'd submit.
As far as defending the Constitution you would have to look at thier picks for the Supreme courts Bush: Alito and Roberts both feel you don' iterpet the Constituion, you uphold it .Obama:Sotomayor(will be confirmed)has already stated
'That you make policy from the bench' So you would have say Bush did a better job at Defending the Constitution , in his picks.Obama should have at least one more pick and you know it wil be along the same line as Sotomayor.

Defend them from what?What is it you don't like about them?As for me the jury is still out for these two ,I look for a supreme court justice who will uphold the law and defend the Constitution and not make policy from the bench.Justice should be blind.It looks like these two so far fit the bill.

Lots. Scalia crowned Bush. How 'Constitutional' is that? That was tantamount to a political coup for which you'd face a firing suad in many countries.
Roberts got his gig for his participation in the Brooks Bros. riot. More treason.
Scalia is a fascist from a line fascists. His father is reported to have been a leading fascist in the movement in Italy back in the day.
More importantly, I disagree with the vast majority of their rulings.

I'm with GM on this. Methinks you need to stop spewing media sound-bite quality statements and go back, re-read the constitution and consider that, built into this very document, by the founding fathers, was room for this document to be made relevant to current times. This doesn't mean re-interpreting it. You say that the founding principles should remain untouched, but what you fail to understand is that a principle is not a written-in-stone statement; it is a PRINCIPLE! If you look this word up in the dictionary you will come to realize, I hope, that principles can evolve as societal thinking evolves. That's not re-interpretation, it's maintaining relevancy for the overall welfare of a society in their time, not the 1700's.
As further proof that you need to get your head out of the ass of conservative sound-bites and misinformation, the Sotomayor bit you "quoted" about her advocating making policy is inaccurate to the extant you leave out her saying right after that that she does not believe in this. Do your homework!
