A 24-year-old man in Arkansas has been arrested and charged with the drive-by shooting at a Little Rock military recruitment center that killed one soldier and injured another.
Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad -- a 24-year-old Little Rock resident formerly known as Carlos Bledsoe -- faces a first-degree murder charge and 15 counts of engaging in a terrorist act, Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas said. The terrorist counts stem from the shots fired at an occupied building.
While authorities continued to investigate a motive, Thomas said Muhammad is a Muslim convert and, based on preliminary interviews with him, investigators believe there were "political and religious motives" in the shooting.
Military officials initially believed the shooting was a random act, but Thomas said police believe the shooter acted alone "with the specific purpose of targeting military personnel."
With the volume turned up so deafeningly high on the Tiller assassination, one must wonder how this story will influence the media's coverage over the ensuing days.
I'm going to render a guess that Bill O'Reilly, who's taking a whole lot of heat for his prior persecution of Tiller, will use this story as a way of defending himself by highlighting media hypocrisy when it inevitably does not receive as much coverage.
As George W. Bush once said, you can write it down.

So as a converted muslim he must be a liberal?
I have no doubt Bill will do his best to make the connection.
Fundamental Islam shares some values with fundamental Christianity. Though I don't know if he was ever either, though accepting and acting out violence in your life is one of the markers of its possibility.
How is this a terrorist act and not the Tiller assassination? There certainly were "political and religious motives" in that killing as well. Kill a soldier, you're a terrorist. Kill a doctor, you're just a criminal. Murdering someone on behalf of a Christian deity is somehow less offensive than murdering someone on behalf of a Muslim deity? This "terrorist" has no support network in this country and the police believe he acted alone. The Christian does have a support network. Hell, he's got a whole political party. But the Christian is somehow less of a threat and not a terrorist. Right. US justice at work. Threaten the MIC and you're a national enemy. Murder a doctor, a civilian, and you will get people making nationally broadcast speeches attacking your victim and saying your actions were justified and understandable. This country is fucked.
What I see are two, yes, two, right wing nut jobs killing people for political/religious reasons in one week.
Most Muslims are conservative people so it'll be interesting watching O'Really? connect this guy to libs. He will no doubt try.
But the fact is, the guy would not have embraced politically charged Islamism if he did not have conservative leanings.
I'm sick of right wing nuts and their murderous ideology and I want nothing less than to see them run out of this nation on a rail.
Steve
I agree. The converted Muslims need to change their names to something like "Ned" or "Jeb" or "Larry" etc. The "Muhammad" sort of draws attention. You know that the "terrorist" that sniped Tiller will have one of those "Billy-Bob" names that "you-might-be-an-asshole-redneck if you have a name like..........
Remember-the Nazi's didn't lose-they just moved
common 'alleged' street killer, not much else in the end I suppose. Is Arkansas a death penalty case? Will it be a federal matter in the end? After all the fallen was a soldier.
Scott Roeder is but a hop, skip and a jump from being Timothy McVeigh. Religious fundamentalist zealots are, by nature and psychology, right wing, conservatives.
(The Little Rock shooter and the Wichita assassin are perfect examples.) If these kind of guys weren't fundamentalists they would be more moderate, liberal or progressive.
Folks at the Fox Noise Channel seem, also, to not get what Nazis really are. They blur the difference by not realizing that Nazis and Stalinists have only one thing in common: both are totalitarian, but the Nazis are fascists, that is they, the governent, are in league with business...and the Stalinists, as the government, control business, or usurp it; in so many words, bring business and commerce into the totality of their power structure.
You'll notice that douche bags like Flush Limpbowel and Bill O'Really(?) are always calling the more Stalinistic crowd, Nazis, hoping to perpetuate the old redbaiting bullshit of the McCarthy Era. In fact, Flush and Mr. O'Really(?) can't see the big Nazi forest growing all around them for the little Brown Shirt type trees growing in their own backyards. Both of these guys are media whores of the first order and beholden to corporate suits that tell them when and where to shit and what color.
This is the danger we face, the true danger that threatens us. It's very good to know that the DHS was watching this man, but why couldn't they have taken him into custody before he murdered one poor young fighting man and wounded another? Is that what preventive custody is all about? Just look at how the Islamofascists are killing people left and right in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Look at how their representatives in Iran want to "wipe Israel off the face of the earth." Look at how they have staged terroristic bombings in Spain, in Morocco, in Turkey, in Lebanon, in Israel, in Indonesia, in so many countries. We cannot let them start to attack us over here. It's good that this person who hates our soldiers and way of life was apprehended, but very unfortunate that it occurred only after the murder of one poor soldier and the wounding of another.
Whether or not you actually cause terror, has little impact on whether you will be labeled a "terrorist".
If a civilian attacks established institutions (a police officer, a politician, a corporatocracy think-tank chairman, a lobbyist or a corrupt multinational company, anything related to the military or military industrial complex, etc.) you will be labeled a "terrorist" instantly.
If a civilian attacks a civilian, it's just pleb on pleb violence in the eyes of the elite.
If someone or something representing established institutions in the west, drops bombs, uses chemical agents and kills hundreds of thousands of civilians, even exhalting it's own "shock and awe" barbarity... it's not terrorism, it's spreading democracy, it's fighting the "evil doers", it's "ends" that justify the "means" irrelevant of the amount of fabrication and outright bullshit that it is based upon.
The truth (as if most of us here don't know it!) is that we have institutions that are very corrupt, that engage in the spread of real terror and even commend themselves on it.
GWB, Rice, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Halliburton execs, Erik Princeand a many others deserve the noose as much as Saddam did and are as equally deserving of the title "terrorist" as anyone else on the planet. But they are "our" terrorists, and as such protected by the institutions that dreamed up "anti-terror" legislation in the first place.
In some cases those we label "terrorist" could easily be called an "anti-corruptionist" based on the reasoning for their intent.
If you try to fight corruption, guess what your label will be?
If you try to stand up against the needless slaughter of human beings by these institutions and protest about it, guess what the name of the legislation is that will be used to invade your privacy and fuck with you?
If you try to exact revenge against corruption that has killed your brothers and sisters, guess what your label will be?
If you murder, cheat, lie and steal, if you foment civil war where there need not be one and lie to your own people, telling us it's for our own good, if you literally spread absolute terror and despair for reasons of political control and to steal a nation's resources... out of little more than greed and desire for profit... you'll be called a politician or a chairman... but never fear the "terrorist" label being used no matter how much it's truly deserved.
Our problem isn't the "terrorism" we have portrayed to us by the mainstream media, hell, peanut allergies kill more people annually than that type of "terrorism". However if you account terrorism committed in our name, our real spreading of terror for less honorable or justifiable reasons (ie. CORPORATIST GREED, LIES AND PROPAGANDA)... the numbers are significantly different.
War criminals and real spreaders of terror on false or corrupt basis... deserve to be executed, as such, I wish to see Bush, et al. tried and executed for their crimes for they represent a much greater problem and threat to us all, without any reason besides utter, pure, vile GREED... than 99.9% of muslims could ever do.
