Wouldn't you know it: seems like former Vice President Dick Cheney's 'reasons for torture tour' is starting to soften up the American public. Sorta like they did to detainees, except less painful and more persistently annoying.
[A] CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey, released Wednesday morning, indicates that a majority of Americans still have an unfavorable opinion of Cheney.
Fifty-five percent of people questioned in the poll say they have an unfavorable opinion of the former vice president. Thirty-seven percent say they have a favorable opinion of Cheney, up eight points from January when he left office.

The poll suggests that 41 percent of Americans hold a favorable opinion of the former president, with 57 percent viewing him unfavorably.

Well, this confirms it - 37% of the country is not just stupid, but fucking stupid.
So many of us Americans are so very gullible. All Cheney has to do is cite a litany of garbage as fact and many are so ill informed they buy it hook line and sinker. He, of course, introduces his facts as parts of an argument that sells them as foregone conclusions or just obviously true. The more outrageously false they are, the more some seem to decide they must be true, no matter how many historically reliable and trustworthy sources with well-documented facts supporting them have provided information that make his rhetoric a clear case of habitual lying. Of course, he knows he's lying. That's the problem many of us have. We just can't accept that a former vice president is quite simply a conniving propaganda machine.
Oh, and in combination with being unable to accept that a former vice president could possibly be intentionally misrepresenting things for his own nefarious purposes, too many of us just haven't acquired enough information to judge anything he says for ourselves. This combination is a very dangerous one, and one that afflicts a very substantial minority, as these polls show. We need to do something about that, but don't count on the principal media outlets to provide much help. That's where outlets like the Raw Story come in. And this is another issue many Americans simply can't bring themselves to believe, just as they have a problem accepting clear evidence of rampant vote fraud in the U.S.A., with the worst occurring where electronic voting is the rule.
Finally people are rousing from their slumber and seeing what a great man we had as VP for 8 years. Thank you, Dick Cheney, for keeping us safe and not blabbing about secret sites or making unrealistic promises about moving terrorists into our backyards. You knew what it took to get the goods out of these scumbags, you knew what it took to keep us safe, you knew what it took to put Saddam Hussein in his grave and Osama in his cave where he could not touch us.
