Wow. Another "Freedom" memorial built on stolen land.
What is with the victims families? Why is it so important for them to have a memorial where their loved ones died? So important that they have to steal land from rightful owners?
When I die, I hope my friends will celebrate my life, not the specific spot where I stopped breathing.

If the land is condemned, what are they putting a park on it for? Eminent domain is not for the purpose of feel-good memorializing. Stealing land from free citizens for a park is not for the greater good. Stick a statue on the site and call it a day.
People died on this spot,but why do we need to spend $58 million dollars on this thing and take peoples prop. from them.I know that on the other hand these people were being outragous in the valuation of their land.But face it people,all these memorials are adding glory to these radical terriots so their children can come to these spots and say my uncle or dad did that.
We have a tendency in this country to over-memorialize everything. The park service needs to back down and pay some respect to the living for a change.

Because we as a nation murdered twice that number of civilians a day or two ago in Afghanistan using our own air power, perhaps we can build a $58 million fucking dollar memorial to them too. After all there was twice as many (44 onboard flt 93) murdered. If we spent $1.3 million dollars per civilian that we murdered in actions that could only be deemed as pure cowardice, we'd be spending over 100 trillion dollars.

why dont we use that money to catch osama bin laden? i think we need to spend more time and effort figuring out what happened on that day rather than exploiting it for political purposes and trampling on the rights of citizens. and really- is a national park necessary? just build a monument on the site or some place near by. it really does seem odd that they want to seize soo much land all around.

The real story here is why is it 2009 and we have yet to do anything at any 9/11 sites beyond clean up? Maybe Bush gave up trying to figure out a way to do these projects without actually creating an American job.

This "crash site" was egregiously suspect from the get--cordoned off, made inaccessible to reporters, no plane wreckage or bodies anywhere, with Flight 93 wreckage actually scattered in a swath starting miles from the hole in the ground that is alleged to be pt. of impact.
I once tried to find newspaper funeral/memorial announcements of the people who died on the 911 flights. I could find none; not even a small town paper mourning the loss of a local family. If any of you can find such announcements specifically mentioning the flight numbers, or if you yourself attended one or know someone who attended one, please let me know. Thanks.

More conspiracy morons, thermite dust is a by-product of WELDING which is used in all structural steel buildings to weld connections among the structural members. When the buildings collapsed, steel and welded connections shattered creating the thermite dust. There was no FRIGGIN bomb, ignited jet fuel caused the buildings to collapse, nothing else. The only conspiracy was that the government probably knew in advance that the terrorists were going to hijack the planes and fly them into buildings.
Something does seem strange. There are many memorials and historic sites that fall under the National Park Service. Why a perpetually underfunded agency would steal that much land and have to pay to maintain such a large space seems very odd.

With all due respect to the victims that lost their lives. I fail to see a good reason to take peoples land if they do not want to sell or give it up. The government seems to be able to do as it chooses more and more. I think in the current recession the money could do much more good than it will building this. I do not believe this needs to occur. I think people need to wake up and start really seeing what is happening. We have corruption everywhere. Fat cats in government allocating funds for things we do not need, meanwhile people are losing their homes and jobs. This is going to trickle down to all of us. There needs to be money to help people, not build monuments. Maybe later when and if we fix this we can think about spending money for that type of thing. The National Park Service (NPS) has begun the process of eminent domain
to begin constructing the Flight 93 Memorial in time for an opening on
September 11, 2011.
Through this action, the NPS is ensuring the permanent protection of the
remains of the forty heroes of Flight 93, in what is truly a national
cemetery. In addition, the NPS is keeping the promise made to the partners
and the community that the memorial will be dedicated by September 11,

What about groud zero? Still a parking lot, if I do recall? So why the rush to sieze private property in the middle of nowhere if they cant even put up a poxy statue in one of the most viable real-estate options in the USA? Until they do SOMETHING with ground zero, they dont have a leg to stand on. These people are useless wankers who need to get a life.
In the not too distant future, tribes wandering through this area will gaze upon the monument and recall why the government of the USA was overthrown by the people.
What a waste. Instead of building what will be a morbidly bizarre memorial/visiting center with bizarre flight 93 memorial mugs, why don't they plant an apple tree for each of the people on that plane that was shot down then donate the apples to the hungry. That would be a better memorial than rewarding a contractor the exclusive rights to print and sell flight 93 memorial t-shirts that are manufactured in china.

With all due respect to the victims that lost their lives. I fail to see a good reason to take peoples land if they do not want to sell or give it up. The government seems to be able to do as it chooses more and more. I think in the current recession the money could do much more good than it will building this. I do not believe this needs to occur. I think people need to wake up and start really seeing what is happening. We have corruption everywhere. Fat cats in government allocating funds for things we do not need, meanwhile people are losing their homes and jobs. This is going to trickle down to all of us. There needs to be money to help people, not build monuments. Maybe later when and if we fix this we can think about spending money for that type of thing. The government should have no right to take these peoples land. But they will and no one will blink an eye at it. How bout they give up their land instead.

Here is the reply I got after sending an email. I'd really like to help these landowners in some way. This is just wrong. And it seems about profit. If people don't start speaking up in this country ten years from now we will all wish we had. This is just wrong, really wrong.

Thank you for your email of May 11, 2009 regarding the Flight 93 Memorial.
The National Park Service (NPS) has begun the process of eminent domain
to begin constructing the Flight 93 Memorial in time for an opening on
September 11, 2011.
Through this action, the NPS is ensuring the permanent protection of the
remains of the forty heroes of Flight 93, in what is truly a national
cemetery. In addition, the NPS is keeping the promise made to the partners
and the community that the memorial will be dedicated by September 11,
2011, the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
The NPS, as well as the Families of Flight 93, has been working with
landowners since 2005; but with several exceptions, offers made to the
landowners have been unsuccessful. Now, to meet the construction timeline,
we must acquire the land by exercising the authority authorized by Congress
for the Flight 93 National Memorial, and request the U.S. Department of
Justice (DOJ) to make the necessary filings in U.S. District Court. We will
provide copies of updated appraisals for the land to the DOJ for use in
compensating landowners for their property. Under eminent domain, the
landowners are entitled to "just compensation," which ensures they will be
paid fair market value for their property.
Construction of the Flight 93 National Memorial will begin by the end of
2009 and the Memorial will be opened on the tenth anniversary of 9/1l.
