While I believe the events of 9/11 occurred without the direct or indirect actions of the Bush administration, I do believe they knew a massive attack was emanate somewhere in the US and they made no effort to stop it.

I agree with former Govenor Jesse Ventura about 9/11. We had catastrophic failures of our air defense and intelligence agencies and yet no one was fired. I aslo agree that many people in this country just cannot go down that road and face that our own government could be involved in something that heinous.

The point is that the Bushies were strongly informed that there were suspicions about an attack via bin Laden. And they did nothing. Bush himself actually went on vacation. As we all know the rest of the story goes downhill from there.

He's being asked by the 9/11 Commission about the Aug. 6, 2001 PDB which warns of an imminent attack within the United States by al Qaeda operatives, and why he essentially didn't have a "hair on fire" reaction to the intelligence report he'd just heard, and his reaction to his earlier non-reaction before 9/11 was that he hadn't wanted to politicize the FBI nor interfere in "pending cases."
Even though, we now know, politicizing the Justice Department and FBI were one of the top priorities of the first-term and second-term Bush/Cheney administrations. Bush's first AG John Ashcroft, for instance, politicized the Justice Department and FBI before the 9/11 attacks by implanting pet Republican issues as top priorities while lowering the priority level of the terrorist threat, which the Aug. 6, 2001 amply warned about, at least to anyone willing to listen or anyone willing to take action to avert an attack.
Which is why I'm curious, like Mr. Ben-Veniste, what Bush meant exactly in saying "pending cases," as if Bush knew an attack was imminent, and yet had no interest in doing anything to try to stop it from happening, even after getting the Aug. 6, 2001 briefing. Ho-hum. Yawn. It wasn't his problem. Besides, any attack would advance the stated PNAC plot against our democracy and their hardcore conservative goal of establishing a "permanent Republican majority," so why would any top Bush/Cheney official have taken time to delve deeper into the activities of some right-wing religious fundamentalist fanatics before 9/11 who, if they pulled off their terrorist action inside the United States, would be playing right into the hands of PNAC plotters?
When 9/11 happened, I had a very visceral, gut reaction. Not based on anything. I was immediately convinced that the Bush -Cheney White House was responsible. Perhaps not directly responsible, but certainly thru negligence, carelessness, or neglect. Nothing that occurred since then ever changed my opinion.
I have consistently held, that, "They knew. And they let it happen." Now a 9/11 Commission member is regurgitating and fleshing out information from that time which concludes: " They knew. And they let it happen."
All this after the fact information, collectively, points to criminal behavior at the very least, by Cheney, his staff, Rumsfeld, his staff, and Condoleeza Rice. Bush is at least guilty of gross negligence. They should be indicted. I know that there is a common ly held opinion not to indict, if they feel they can't get a conviction. But I believe the facts need to be formally aired in a structured, credible setting that permits, at the very least, the court of public opinion to assess those facts and draw conclusions.
Please read the book "the Shadow factory" and see the TV Documentary "the Spy Factory" both by James Bamford and know that The Coward/Wimp and Former NSA/CIA Boss Mikie knew that two of UBL's AQ Men were in the US pre 9-11 and he did not notify the Feds and in not doing so, he let 9-11 happen. No one has charged him, yet he has not sued James Bamford for libel either.
