First came Steele vs. Limbaugh. Then Coulter vs. (previously little known) McCain. Now the latest example of internecine strife in GOP territory is taking place in blogtopia (that term props to Skippy).
"Charles Johnson versus a large number of conservative blogs, some of whom call him a 'former conservative,' or something," blogger Dan Riehl observes regarding a pile-up of blogs attacking the honcho behind the popular blog Little Green Footballs.
Other right-leaning bloggers aren't happy that Johnson has attacked Fox News host Glen Beck for his "over-the-top irresponsible extremism and conspiracy theories."
Johnson linked approvingly to a Politico article by Michael A. Cohen, a former speechwriter for Democrats such as Sen. Chris Dodd, that was entitled "Extremist rhetoric won't rebuild GOP."
"Yet for all of his conspiracy-addled and occasionally tear-filled declarations, Beck has become the new darling of the conservative right," Cohen wrote." "His show is a regular stomping ground for Republican congressmen and party pooh-bahs like Karl Rove, Sarah Palin and Michael Steele, and his ratings rival those of Fox stalwarts Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly. According to The New York Times, Beck has become “one of the most powerful media voices for the nation’s conservative, populist anger.”
One blog, Atlas Shrugged, complains, "Johnson cut his teeth trying to destroy the counter jihad movement, and now he has moved to smear the GOP and leading conservative voices. How many are left in the echo chamber/padded cell? The poor bastid needs a mental health intervention."
Another blogger at The Sundries Shack thinks Johnson should "at least treat the word of a Democratic apparatchik with some skepticism instead of reflexively harrumphing over the takeover of the Republican boys’ club by the barbarian hordes."
Riehl does his best to play peacekeeper.
"As for the feud mentioned above, WTF have people been smoking out here all this time?" Riehl writes. "Much of the Right side of the blogosphere, as it came to be defined, was never about Conservatism. It was about 9/11 and later fighting a war. The actual politics of several thus aligned blogs and bloggers were never Conservative, so it is inaccurate to call them turn coats now. Argue with them if you wish, debate them, whatever. But don't call them names they are not."

Man,, the right wing lunatics really hate it when one of their own has a moment of lucidity, don't they?
LGF has been a haven for right wing whack jobs since it's inception. Now that he finds a lunatic to BE a lunatic and has the gall to say so, the rest of them go crazy on him.
Beck was a brain dead idiot years ago, and now that he has gone to the extreme of bieng an emotinal wreck, LGF doesn't like being associated with a crying nut case. Funny how the rest of them still find him to be just as wonderful as they always did, but still complain about the "bleeding heart liberals" who cry for everyone else's hard times. But one of theirs actually gets on the air and cries like a man in the midst of an emotional breakdown, and that is just fine with them.
God, the hypocrisy of the right is just glaring. How is it that their "followers" don't see it? Do they not have noses on their faces? It's as plain as that.
SELF-EXTINCTION
Today's GOP is a genetically and or psychologically deviant melange of morally and ethically damaged mutants, miscreants and kamikaze loyalists who are crashing and burning all things Republican. They are the figurative buzzards and hyenas fighting over the last scraps of a carcass riddled with maggots and festering clumps of putrefied viscera. They are the opportunistic parasites whose very existence is and always has been dependent on the engorged bellies of alpha predators. The prevalence of fear, paranoia, and irrational hatred in today’s GOP represents the antemortem gasps of a doomed species struggling to survive in evaporating pools of their own toxic waste as they mercilessly slice and dice one another in futile attempts to be a big fish in an increasingly smaller and smaller pond.
That's nice.
Maybe they'll eat each other.
JF
HAHAHA. Right-wing fascists (mislabeled as "conservatives") are being exposed for what they really are: a bunch of brain-dead, non-thinking thugs.
Charles Johnson and the entire "enterprise" he built on the cadavers of so many Iraqis and Afghanis and US soldiers was always a steaming pile of shit. It's nice that the "conservatives" are finally starting to notice.
Notwithstanding his correct assessment that Glenn Beck is a phony, a fraud, a charlatan, and Glenn Beck, I hope his fellow "conservatives" rip his head off and shit down his neck. In time they will all eat each other, because that's what happens when you make Evil Soup. Eventually it has to be consumed.
That is what conservatism is all about: Thou shalt toe the line.
I learned this lesson nearly 20 years ago, when the Cold War ended. Once there was no Communism, the internal contradictions of the movement became clear, not to mention the true characters of most cons. Suddenly, they couldn't wait to rip each other to shreds. They can't stand anybody else, and they can't stand each other. Getting conservatives to stop hating anything available is like trying to get a bunch of Orcs to cooperate in sewing a quilt promoting world peace.
To paraphrase Peter DeVries: Glenn Beck is the fetid dripping mayonnaise oozing out of the rotted club sandwich of Conservative thought.
It would all be funny if it truly wasn't so sad to watch and hear. One thing I've learned in the last eight year, thanks to W is, most experts don't know anything but like to put on a suit and make believe they are somebody special and most folks don't think, period! "Duh, which way did he go?" If this government is giving so much to the losers that got us in this mess in the first place, why don't we give free anger management to the people who really need it? We could also take the licenses of broadcasters who promote death and destruction...FOX?
Oh, what a sweet dream....
Looks like the retards have joined the Judean Peoples Front ... the same intelligence, the same effectiveness

[...] not easy to keep score in all of this, but HERE’s an overview [...]
At this juncture in our history we need to pull together if we are to survive. Rome fell and more recently the one time super power, the Soviet Union, collapsed from internal contradictions. I think most people want to put petty party politics aside until the U.S. is well but their are exceptions. Fox news appears to be against us healing. They seem to hire the worst haters and nuts who try to distract us with Karl Rove type wedge issues like marriage,Christmas wars, and someone teaching a course they disagree with. I don't know Hannity at all but O'Reilly and Beck are not the kind of people you would trust with your kids. If you don't know about O'Reilly sexual deviancy or Beck's alcohol and paranoid crying problems then you are lucky.
Then their is the biggest hater of all this Rush character who spews his venom everyday for hours. I guess by cable or radio standards he is popular even though the Gallop poll shows Limbaugh to be more unpopular then our ex V.P. Cheney who has a 19% favorable rating. It's annoying but let them rant and rave about gays,Mexicans, the President, and guns. I wouldn't ban any of them. I just find it curious that Fox is a home for so many of these haters and war hawks who talk the biggest and toughest yet managed to avoid serving in the military.
PS Know very little about the tough talking Hannity so if he served I apologize but I bet it won't be necessary.
goatboy slim: Nice quote. Thanks for the apt allusion.
Watching this inbredneck klan gnaw out its own stomach is truly a thing of beauty. Too bad these knuckledraggers own more guns than brain cells: their coworkers and family members will probably pay for their untethered ignorance and anger.
"According to The New York Times, Beck has become “one of the most powerful media voices for the nation’s conservative, populist anger.”
If he's powerful in the eyes of the base of the GOP, this guarantee's the GOP will sink further into extinction. It's painfully obvious that a majority have spoken out against this type of hate-speech, this kind of divisiness, this kind of lunacy (see: Election 2008). The only people listening to Beck, Limpballs, O'Lielly, et al, are the unstable and hateful among us (see: Richard Poplawski, Jim Adkisson).
So, when will the Becks, Limpballs, O'Lielly's, et al, be held accountable for inciting violence? Also, isn't calling for 'armed revolution' (courtesy of Michelle "I'm beyond batty" Bachmann) treason?
It's OK, I really didn't expect you to publish my comment. Pretty much proves my point doesn't it? This really isn't an alturnative news outlet. That's why comments are screened beforehand, making sure only "correct" thinking allowed. I didn't really expect anything more, but it was nice to verify what had been suspect all this time. Just another Pro-democrat, pro-division of America. Only those who are willing to comment on "right wing nut cases" and anything pro obama allowed. True-blue to garden variety, main stream standards.
Then I must made a good call! ....Great! Feels good to be right on this subject.
Great! So where is my original comment? You only published my response.
Thanks all the same. Half of my comment is better than none at all.
"Osage" observeth:
Would it be fair to add "alcoholics, drug addicts, sex maniacs and fiends, chronic spendthrifts, gamblers and suchlike weird and unwholesome" as above?
(Especially considering, for the sake of insight, the final, drunken broadcast of the infamous "Lord Haw-Haw" targeting Great Britain in the name of Nazi Germany; note the all-so-frequent use of "I can only say--" throughout, as if trying to buy an alibi.)
This is what makes the Republicans sooo Naziesque, as long as you tow and speak the party line everything's fine but don't you DARE Republican "values" or anything else about the way they operate unless you want the angry knuckle-draggers to come down on you like a ton of bricks. You may be a loyal Conservative for years but the second you air a difference you're disowned.
Osage. That is one helluva description. You certainly have a way with words. Do you mind if I quote you. That was delicious
Keep in mind that Beck's TV career began on CNN, and like others who switch networks, and most specifically in the cases of FOX/CNN, they have to push their credibility to their "new" employer by going to the mattress to justify being taken on. Sure Beck's overdoing it, but that's what he thinks he's being paid for.
So none of the commenters here recall all of the in-fighting on the left between 2000 and just before their comeback in '06? After election '04 there was lots of talk among the news-weekly type mags and such about whether or not the party could come back from 'the wilderness'. The (R) party isn't going to disappear nor will conservatism. It's just their time in the wilderness. Continue to imagine so if you like.
thx a billion for the shout out, ron!
as to your piece, i was amazed to read charles' stuff. to be fair, back when blogs were first being carved in stone, charles was not rude or dismissive to me (we had slight email communication), so i never held him personally in low regard, only his views (i'm old school...i can still respect a man whose politics i abhor).
imagine my surprise to have to click thru to lgf to read actual logic! maybe this is a sign of the thawing of hardly-ever-right wing idiocy.
Good riddance!!!
You all should be glad if Glenn Beck and Johnson and LittleGreenFootballs tear eachother apart, every last one of them are faux conservatives anyway.
These folks or more or less liberals, neo-liberals and the show will no doubt be one for the record books!!!
If you want to see real conservatives, look into these guys:
http://spectator.org/archives/2009/03/16/an-australian-lesson
http://www.theleftcoaster.com/archives/000811.php
Barry Goldwater was a real conservative. Hal P. Colebatch is a real conservative. He is against centralized banking, government welfare spending going out of control, large entitlement programs and also spending way beyond our means increasing the budget & deficit beyond what anyone could ever conceive.
John Adams and the original Samuel Adams were conservatives also, your regular "talk show entertainers" no matter how much they try changing their spots, can't change the facts of who is and isn't a conservative.
Conservative ideal is about SMALL GOVERNMENT and NOT big business, the very opposite which the liberal faux conservatives have been preaching and dishing out on everyone for over 60 years. The one thing they couldn't agree on was whether de-regulation was or wasn't a good idea. But guess what - "FREE MARKET" is the best option we have to stop Bank fraud. Putting thousands of more rules and regulations on Banks actually does the opposite. Allowing the economy to naturally become free market will balance the budget, most businesses especially the worst ones will fall out. The rest will not do anything except compete with each-other so we no longer rely on one currency.
Therefore it is expected and good if they self implode, encourage it!
The rwingnuts will continue in their willful ignorance and will always exist in some number. Trouble is, their numbers are sizable now and the likes of Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck are whipping them all into a rabid, violent froth.
I fear the domestic terrorism surely to come from these unhinged lunatics.
We shouldn't underestimate these types of people. They're just like the ones who took over Germany in the 1930s when the global economy tanked.
Trying to get a majority of Americans to march in lockstep is much like trying to herd smoke in a hurricane. The post 9/11 period was as close as America can come, and it didn't last long enough to really matter--remember, Hitler didn't bankrupt Germany the way Bush bankrupted America. Hitler had to wage a world war in a way that was almost competent. Bush had to settle for incompetence to accomplish his aims. The differences are vast. America won't "fall" for a messiah. We even question God on occasion, and Americans will never make trains run on time. We LIKE change. If Moses were leading Americans and parted the sea, Americans would say, "Hey, if you can do that, let's go back and make that Pharoah turn his own army into workers!"
I used to believe RAW story actually was a source of alternative news as it bills itself to be. For more than a year I’ve logged in here thinking I was actually getting alternative news. A cursory look at the daily news items this web site chooses to run, and reading comments from viewers this web site caters to, how could anyone seriously consider this to be an alternative news outlet. It is overwhelming and unmistakably biased in favor of the Democrat.
During the obama campaign, The Raw Story acted almost exactly like obama campaign headquarters. Willing to dispel anything negative about the obama and always willing to forward anything positive. Not unlike any of the regular, main stream media, alphabet news web sites. And like any other main stream news outlet, The Raw Story covertly promotes the same old deception of trying to sell you on the idea that only one side of the political ledger is responsible for America’s woes.
It’s a free country (for now) and this website certainly has a right to run stories as it chooses, but there is deception here.
I am neither Republican or Democrat. In my humble opinion, Obama will be shown to be just as evil as Bush was, given his 4 year term. I am a concerned citizen watching unpleasant events unfold that will not favor persons belonging to either political party. Once the dust clears I hope all will remember those who deceived and divided this nation and judge them accordingly.
Hey Osage,
Beautiful piece of Gonzo prose. The good Dr. Thompson couldn't have said it better.
It would appear that fox new and members will do anything to help Obama ,our choice,to fail. in essence, if obama fails we fail..They are like the klan stomping their feet at the middle class because we are coming back with a voice and they dont like it..Fox is getting the klan all in one spot and thats a good thing. Someone needs to sue them for inciting a riot..encouraging violence, and misinformation campaign for partisan purposes...If I were in charge of a company and any of my employees joined this group and word got out they worked for me, they would lose their jobs..Association works two ways
Maybe Johnson should remind Glenn Beck that sedition is still against the law in this country.
se⋅di⋅tion
/sɪˈdɪʃən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [si-dish-uhn] Show IPA
–noun
1. incitement of discontent or rebellion against a government.
2. any action, esp. in speech or writing, promoting such discontent or rebellion.
It's cool though that Atlas Shrugged admitted she's living in an "echo chamber/padded cell".
@jimbo
You are quite right.. It's a little frustrating at times for an independent, as you only get the left wing side of the story here...
A true "alternative" news site would provide, well.. Alternatives.
In order for any group to grow, they must accept criticism, particularly when it is more than justified. The right continues to show how little and how irrelevant they are when they can't accept criticism.
Speaking of Conservatives, blogs and media personalities and such.. Has anyone heard about the Wash times being in financial trouble?
I haven't.. Ever wonder how Rush Limbaugh does so well with such ridiculous sponsors?
Something I've noticed about Conservative media is how often they share advertisers.
I'm wondering if nearly the entire genre, from the moonie funded Washington Times right down to Glenn Beck and Rush, are nothing but one gigantic astroturfing campaign...
Remember, they tossed a quarter million bucks at goofus Armstrong Williams just to favorably mention NCLB every now and again.. they did this because NCLB's passage would boost drug companies profits.
Now that's just for an occasional, favorable mention from a relative nobody..
What do you reckon a major paper like the Wash Times would be worth? Or a guy like Rush? How much would they throw at him?
Supporting him on the sly would be easy.. Just stick money in some stupid company or product and funnel it to him via advertising.. Perfectly legal, discrete.. No one would be the wiser..
??????????????
I call the repub party the donner party now, the seem to really enjoy eating each other.
Glenn Beck is a shrewd actor for sure. He is getting mega rich by portraying himself as a man for the people, humble and so concerned. The right is so desperate for some sort of leadership that they will accept anyone, such as Palin Limbaugh, Hannity, Bachman and so on. As you can see they are sinking fast. Why follow people that have no real solutions and a ton of criticisms?
"During the obama campaign, The Raw Story acted almost exactly like obama campaign headquarters."
That charge is a joke. We still get links to this day from major right leaning blogs and websites to critical articles we reported last year during the primaries and general election.
The likes of Beck, Hannity, O'Rielly and the rest of the right-wing nuttery don't need anyone to smear them. They do it to themselves every time they open their yaps and show the world how moronic they really are with their 'out of reality ideas.' As my late Irish-born aunt used to say: 'bad cess to them all!'
ratings can't be wrong, what are all of your leftist stations' rankings?; less than Beck, Hannity, and O'Reilly. and that's a fact. IF YA DON'T LIKE'EM, DON'T WATCH'EM. AND IF YOU'RE WATCHN'EM AND COMPLAINING ABOUT 'EM, THEN YOU OBVIOUSLY AIN'T WATCHN YOUR "LEFTY" STATIONS AND DON'T HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHAT KIND OF PUKE THEY ARE SPEWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The quote attributed to me should be put into context. I had written earlier that Cohen's article is seriously flawed, insofar as the four things Cohen uses to describe Beck as a "conspiracy theorist" are wrong. As I said, if you're going to accuse someone of having conspiratorial beliefs, it helps if he actually has them.
Cohen should have known that, what with his being a senior research fellow and all. His article was based on a false premise.
That is an important detail this author should note as well.

This is my first visit to this site, and it's really disappointing to be reminded of the trash-mouthed mentality that tends to inhabit the Leftist movement in America. It's the same mentality that leads to pitchfork revolutions, piano wire hangings and chaos. There is no "debating" a Leftist without getting verbal abuse, rage, and threats. Personal affronts from intelligent but ignorant political opponents is fruitless.
Go Glenn Beck. Jealousy is such a ratings booster. So go on and scream you little green heads off. BTW....Seen the ratings lately?
HMMMM HMMMMM HHMMMM Glenn Beck the leader...
.hmmmmm hmmmmm hmmmm...Glenn Beck on top...
hmmmm hmmm hhmmm...Glenn Beck is famous....
hmmmm hmmmm hmmm....Democrats a flop......
