Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, facing a string of costly ethics complaints, formally unveiled a defense fund Friday to help pay her legal fees — now surging past the half-million dollar mark.
"For Alaskans, the time has come to end the siege on our government by political tricksters. Enough is enough. With the help of reform-minded advocates from across our nation, we will stand up for what is right," said a message on the Web site for the Alaska Fund Trust.
"Your maximum contribution of $150.00 will allow the Governor, her family, and her colleagues to retire their legal debt at no cost to Alaskans and reduce the incentive for mischief by her opponents. Together, we can help Governor Palin and future elected officials turn back the tide of overtly partisan and unnecessarily personal political attacks."
Kristan Cole, a Palin ally from Wasilla, will run the fund, which she described as "one of the most restrictive and transparent legal funds in history." The group said it plans to voluntarily release the names of donors and size of their contributions.
"We have created one of the most restrictive and transparent legal funds in history," Cole said. The group has created downloadable comparisons of the group's restrictions in comparisons with other recent political legal defense funds, including those for both Clintons and former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens.
Palin's legal defense website says:
The Alaska Fund Trust is the official legal fund created to defend the integrity of the Alaska Governor's Office from an onslaught of political attacks launched against current Governor Sarah Palin, the First Family, and state-employed colleagues. These baseless accusations have cost Alaska more than $1 million in public monies to defend, and Governor Palin has incurred more than half a million dollars in personal debt defending her official actions as Governor.
Just in case donors are worried that the money won't be spent on Versace, the website notes "Donations can only be used for legal expenses incurred by counsel on behalf of the Governor, her family, and staff as approved by the Trustee."

Why would she need a "legal" fund if something isn't fishy. The only reason she is being checked out is because something is wrong. Sounds like guilt to me...
I think most of the nation can agree that she's wholly irrelevant, it's only the media that seems to think she is. Why? How many other VP's on the losing side throughout history have been shoved in our face like she has? None.

Why not irrelevant? Because she is one of those rare con-artists who can stir emotions in listeners, getting them to shut off the reasoning portion of the brain, and then proceed to fill her stunned minion's noggins with nonsense.
Hey hologram, how about people aren't guilty just because they are accused. Let the judges judge the law and not jump to conclusions based on a news article with no actual evidence. People shouldn't be considered guilty immediately... that is not justice.

Just a thought, but if she resigned and moved on with her life, wouldn't all of these cases just go away? She needs money to defend her actions only because she thrust herself in to the national spotlight and of course that brought scrutinty. Go home and this all goes away. I know this sound s harsh (to some) but honestly now, does anyone think she is the only Alaskan who can see Putin from their front porch?
the definition of what the fund is for could include palin and her familly's attorneys fees that will inevitably be for the family court fight arising from them not letting the father (of daughter: or his family see the baby. I am not a seer but I see this coming!

Gee whizzikers-Perhaps she wouldn't need the fund if she hadn't filed a complaint against herself.
I just sent her a check for one cent. I encourage others to do the same. Time and effort will be spent processing those checks. I think if she wants to learn about "tricksters" we should educate her.

The creation of this fund is very suspitious in and of itself. Keep an eye out for a criminal charge against Palin coming soon. She has done something and something big and she obviously believes her crime will soon come into the spotlight of her victims...us...the American People.
Democrats, do not pass up this golden opportunity, give as much as you can to this "trust", watch the total grow, then watch her steal it. We know the kind of person she is, a corrupt, greedy pig, the temptation would be too much for her. It would be a great way to derail her political career in the future.

You kow, it generally doesn;t cost much to file a lawsuit against someone, if you do it yourself (here in CA, you can do it by FAX).
I say we keep suing her until everyone she knows is broke.

1. Palin is not relevant.
2. Are defense fund people like trust fund babies?
3. If Palin has clean hands, why does she need a defense fund?
4. If Palin would sell all the clothes the Republican party purchased for her during the campaign, she would not need a defense fund.
