this bill is to say that a judge must declare them incompetent. So they can have the due process all americans are supposed to have. Typical dimocrats don't let the facts get in the way of a good story that you didn't bother read.

Mr Helmke is, as usual, disingenuous about his agenda.
This legislation removes the ability of the VA to remove the 2nd Amendment rights of any veteran by Administrative means, something which has been occuring for years, yet because it wasn't a 1st Amendment issue, hasn't received notice by the media.

Would YOU care to have any of YOUR rights abrogated by the stroke of a VA counselor's pen???

The gun banners KNOW that veterans mentioned in this bill were NOT declared “mentally incompetent.” The brady campaign is flat out lying. Having a person appointed to watch over your financial affairs does not make you mentally incompetent. Would the brady scumbags like every person who ever filed bankruptcy to permanently lose their 2nd amendment rights? We already know the answer to that question. I hope that brady continues to run their mouths against this because the more they do, the more they destroy their tiny amount of credibility (which they only have in the eyes of the elite media).

I have conducted some further investigation and I have discovered that Senator Burr's amendment is intended to effectively repeal a ruling made by the administration of former President Bush that allowed for the abridgment of firearms possession rights solely based upon the word of a doctor and with no application of due process. Evidently the Brady Campaign, and opponents of Senator Burr's amendment, are in agreement with Mr. Bush's decision to abridge civil liberties without due process.
