glenn beck Glenn Becks Obama hating marches set for 9/11, MLK speech anniversariesPerhaps America needs to give Fox pundit Glenn Beck his own day, since he seems to be hellbent on usurping days that are tied to other historical happenings.

Politico's Glenn Thrush reports that "Beck’s 9.12 Project is co-sponsoring a march on Washington on Sept. 11, 2010, to voice unhappiness with the agenda of President Obama and the Democratic Congress and that the group will also become involved in voter registration drives."

The letter, released at the conclusion of a campaign-style rally at a massive retirement community in Central Florida at which Beck discussed his plan, is short on specifics and long on self-promotion, as well as the populist, anti-government, self-help rhetoric that has become Beck’s trademark.

Nonetheless, the announcement seems to indicate a new course for Beck, who this year began encouraging his followers to organize themselves politically but had refrained from participating directly in their activities.

At Media Matters, Eric Boehlert vents, "The idea of trying to politicize the 9/11 anniversary in such a naked way is shocking. But of course nothing actually shocks us any more about Beck's tasteless, Obama-hating campaign. What would be amazing though, is if Beck is able to get away with this. (At least this year's anti-Obama rally was held the day after Sept. 11.) Meaning, if Beck's followers really follow through with their plan and use the hollowed anniversary of 9/11 and turn the tragic terrorist attacks of 2001 into a day for hurling hateful attacks against the President of the United States, will there be no outcry?"

Story continues below...

Think Progress's Matt Corley writes, "Yesterday, while promoting his latest book at 'a festive campaign-style rally' in The Villages in Florida, Fox News host Glenn Beck announced that he was crafting 'a 100 year plan' that will be 'radical' and will 'restore our nation to the maximum freedoms we were supposed to have been protecting.'”

"On August 28, 2010, I ask you, your family and neighbors to join me at the feet of Abraham Lincoln on the National Mall for the unveiling of The Plan and the birthday of a new national movement to restore our great country," Beck told the throng of fans.

Hot Air's Allahpundit notes:

August 28, the date of the D.C. event, happens to be the anniversary of the “I Have a Dream” speech. Given the allusion to the Lincoln Memorial in Beck’s letter, I’m guessing that’s no coincidence. Eschewing the title of “leader” is thus a curious display of modesty from a guy who thinks his book launch is worthy of a modern-day March on Washington with him in the MLK role. No doubt he’s using the date and location as an homage to King, and will cite his example in bringing about another necessary “Refounding” of America. But I’m willing to bet that that’s not how it’ll be received; it’ll be treated as a window onto his ego and an endless opportunity to sidetrack his movement with racial politics. This is, after all, the guy who famously accused the first black president of having a “deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture.”

Perhaps February 10, Beck's birthday, could become known to future generations as his day.

Or perhaps not, since a certain nemesis of Beck's formally announced he was running for president that day in 2007.

Why doesn't Raw ever cover legitimate critisism of the president by the antiwar crowd? Because they want to associate any criticism of the president with gun-weilding homo-bashing black people lynching white bigots thate are a puny minority. I agree with the first comment, Beck is probably a cointel pro agent.

Let's make sure we document VERY carefully what Beck says when he pontificates to the other media and any one with a microphone/camera readily available. Beck TAKES NO SIDES and/or ADVOCATES NOTHING!! Absolutely NOTHING. He uses his pundit platform to cajole, prod, push, spin, lie, create and strawman a 'beck vision' of a 1860's place that he believes his followers want as a replacement for their environment today.

Now remember, Beck has taken no side on any issue and has advocated NOTHING..He has merely suggested...He merely suggested that his followers 'have to decide today' whether or not they will continue down the path they are on with their current 'country'; they have to decide, based on beck's suggestions whether they want a 2074-page Health Care reform package (1st pass) that represents the first change in our system of patches and payoffs, in 65-years since the passage of Medicare. OR, do they want to go back to the small, 'just a few pages' of the original Constitution which advocates NONE (in beck's world) of today's taxes or health care or government systems/support or institutions... And contrary to what Virginia Foxx will say next week, the republicans DID NOT pass Medicare...

They, his 'followers' have to decide today whether or not their current government is working in their best interest in Blythsville, Arkansas or East Battle Creek, Michigan or Walla-Walla, Washington or whether or not they, Beck followers, should rise up and take their governmental back - by force. He hasn't come straight out and said that his followers have to pick up weapons and take out their local authorities (not just police but Beck-defined local non-relating politicians) but he's close...Give him a few more weeks and it won't be very subtle any more.

So, what will he be spewing by the time he gets around to not advocating anything in August of next year... You pick...

Are you going to just keep cutting and pasting the EXACT SAME TRIPE on every story dealing with Beck?
Do you even know the meaning of the word "lame"?
  • Freedom's Toast
Evidently, even the cut-and-paste department is having difficulties these days, as evidenced by reference to <cut, paste> "the hollowed anniversary of 9/11".
At least it's unintentionally correct, even if it's kinda' [sic].
Come on, Raw Story, can we get a little proof-reading here?

Beck is a sham. a neo-con. quite possibly a cointelpro agent. Parading as a libertarian to make the movement look bad. It's amazing who's come out of the woodwork since a black guy became president. There is a huge group of right wingers that had no where to go after the election and so now they tag along with the genuine libertarian movement. they where supporters of one of America's worst regimes. The distinction must be noted.

The only thing(s) more loathsome and disgusting than Beck are media outlets that continually cover his antics and hate speech.

But Beck does provide some extremely valuable services to the cabal of bankers and military industrial complex vermin who run our country. Beck helps perpetuate the false idea that the political system is made up of two opposing parties from the left and the right, the D and the R.
As long as the citizens actually believe this fairy tale, they will be too busy fighting and hating each other to notice that those D and R politicians actually work together on behalf of the real power in this country.
By keeping us divided the power can rule us.
Beck is an actor playing his part.

Bush1, Clinton, Bush 2, Bush 3, Pelosi, Palin, McCain, are all the same. They all serve the corporate powers and screw over we the people while we squabble amongst ourselves.

god damnit. when the hell are we, non-crazy, non-hateful, common-sense-minded people going to march on washington AGAINST these spew-bots?! we always hear about the 9/12ers, the teabaggers, etc. going out there and condemning every step of the democrats' agenda. when will we march IN SUPPORT of these progressive plans?! why give the loonies all the air-time? clearly we are a majority...why aren't we taking more of an advantage of this moment, not to crush the dissension, but to voice our majority and support for the President WE voted in!! unbelievable how this country has become...insane minority, spineless majority.

There needs to be a counter-movement, the Real 9.12

This movement would absolutely NOT emphasize the fear and abdication of values and reactionary cries of "terrorism" at every one who looks different that Beck and his believers so rabidly preach.

Rather, the Real 9.12 would emphasize the sense of commonality that everyone felt on that day, when the entire planet was united against ideologies of hate and despicable acts of mindless destruction.

The day after 9/11 should have been the dawn of an era of global peace, rationality, mutual understanding if not agreement. More people were on the same page that day than at any other single moment in human history.

But instead we got bushwacked, and have since lost all our diplomatic credibility, a huge fraction of our economy, numerous rights and freedoms, not to mention our moral compass.

It would be awesome to get back to the Real 9.12

I think Mr. Beck likes the 9.12 where ignorant people were beating up store proprietors and accosting anyone who looked middle eastern.

I agree more with your view, and I watched horrified as our then president squandered an opportunity to unite the world, instead opting to speak in terms of a holy war and retribution.

Fanning the flames of hysteria and inciting distrust and violence?

This not only makes Beck a Good American (tm), but it also it makes him a Real Man (tm).

As FOX networks' chattering gobs like Beck try to dismantle ACORN apparently they want to start their voter registration org...probably call it AHOLE!
  • Chris From Maine
First Beck plans to spit on the grave of both MLK and Lincoln, then for the 2nd straight year he plans to spit on the graves of those killed on 9/11.

This man truly knows no shame. He is vile.

All those dumb old fart retirees hanging on Beck disgust me. They prove that with age comes rot. Why don't we take away their Medicare and Social Security? Thenj they could all live out their days in the glorious America of their youth where non-whites and women knew their places, and government didn't interfere with the slow death by poverty and disease as God intended.

That America didn't have bloated costs for medical care because it didn't have to pay for the reduction in competence caused by third world influx. Insurance was for care not for 3rd world fraudsters.

LOOK! It's that pony that does that ONE trick!

3rd world implies there's a first and second world. America is slipping into 2nd (if not already there) and is on track to become 3rd world before too long. And it has nothing to do with "illegal immigrants", but it has everything to do with population growth in general, and the pursuit of profits by the few as the expense of the many. As wealth concentrates in the hands of the few, the masses become impoverished.. aka, 3rd world.
