waterboardingprotest Teachers aides accused of waterboarding special needs studentPolitical observers like The Atlantic's Andrew Sullivan have argued that one of the most dangerous elements of the Bush administration's torture policies was the risk that a "torture mentality" would take hold in American society.

Those who seek evidence for that theory need look no further than Great Falls, Montana, where two teacher's aides have been charged with using water torture on a middle school student.

Julie Ann Parrish and Kristina Marie Kallies face one count each of felony abuse after allegations that they forced a 13-year-old autistic boy's head under water after he fell asleep in class. They also stand accused of "forcing him to sit in his soiled pants for hours and making him eat his own vomit when he got sick," reports KTLA in Los Angeles.

"If the teachers thought Garrett was being lazy or falling asleep at his desk, they forcibly took my son to the kitchen sink in the room and forced his head under the water while he was screaming for his mother," Tifonie Schilling, mother of the alleged victim, told ABC News. "And if he had an accident in his pants he was made to sit in it all day. They would taunt him and say, 'You stink like a baby.'"

"They were waterboarding my son," Schilling said.

Story continues below...

According to the Associated Press, police in Great Falls are working to bring Kallies, one of the accused, back to Montana to stand trial. She is believed to be in Texas. Parrish, the other defendant, has already had her first court date and has been released on $5,000 bail.

Both Kallies and Parrish denied the charges during a school investigation. According to court documents, the teacher's aides say they only "splashed water" on the child's face and neck, and never let him sit in his own waste for more than a few minutes.

But Tifonie Schilling told ABC she received a letter from a teacher's aide with whom she was friendly warning her of the duo's behavior towards her son. Schilling pulled her son from Great Falls' North Middle School, where the abuse allegedly took place, in April, 2009.

The alleged victim, Garrett Schilling, now 14, suffers from Fragile X syndrome, a genetic disorder that is the leading cause of autism.

The attorney representing Schilling says he has received more complaints from other parents about abuse within the school district, some of it having to do with the same two teacher's aides.

"I have about 14 other families who have kids who have been subjected, in one way or another, to different schools in the district," attorney Randy Tarum told ABC. "The abuse comes in varying degrees, and not every child says they were tortured."

Um, I'm here on the scene in GF, and I must tell you that nothing has been proven yet! So, don't go all Oprah on this one just yet. There are WAY too many suspicious details that just don't add up. For some reason, these parents are insisting on sensationalizing this thing. But by ANY stretch of the imagination, it was NOT torture. Apparently the aides would sprinkle water on the kid's head to wake him up. Yeah, real torture! Save your outrage until such a time as these phony charges make it through a guilty verdict. It probably has more to do with parents wanting to sue! The schools in Montana I assure you are excellent. But HEY, what school is immune from disgruntled parents who want money? And Oprah, don't waste your time on this one!

Well you about as stupid an as heartless as those 2 ignorant bitches who did that to that poor child....My son is Austic an I had a teacher treat him badly an yes I did do something about it an know i didn't do it for money!!! I did it cause I wanted to make sure they were held responsible for what they did just as those parents are doing unless you feel it ain't that bad an they should only get a slap on the wrist.... So how about you do man kind a favor an keep your 2 bit since to your useless no good for nothing brain.... After all you would only be an inbreed if you really thought if all they did was that cuz if so then the stupid bitch wouldn't have gone on the run now would have she????? An if you do then your a fucking DEDEDE an need to take you stupidity some where else other then on a site where something as heartless as this is being talked about....
  • Gitmobullieshere
    Way to go, Cheney.
  • dennycrane
Does cheney have an underground tunnel from his "bomb" shelter to this school? How the hell could you treat someone like this? "Fishy-pants" palin should get on a "whale" boat immediately and "meet: with these parents. Better hurry, the media is starting to pull anchor.
  • There are no real words that come close to how I feel about these types of people capable of such an act of cruelty... But hey didn't we just get rid of a President and VP that felt this type of behavior was perfectly fine?
  • bart
That kid wasn't tortured, that just sounds like extreme scolding to me.
  • locoecho
Are you fucking kidding me!!!! I have a son who is Autistic an doing anything close to that is torture.... How about you try an think if that was your own child or even baby sister or brother? Because kids who have Autism at times don't know right from wrong but they do have very sensitive feelings an my son would be forever effected by that.. I will keep that poor child in my prayers an only hope the part of his Autism will help him forget such a thing.... An you should really rethink that stupid ignorant thing you said an maybe open you mind to what real torture is....

A torture mentality in America is about the most un-American thing I can think of.
    How sad is that?
The booger eaters that watch ClusterFaux news are all over this stuff and they continue to justify it to "Keep Amurica Safe".
Sad human beings are behind this type of thing.

tall trees and short ropes for the leaders who said enhanced interrogation is aok
will begin to cure american ills
  • mannymanny
no kidding. and this shit happened, where? montana? i mean, who would ever guess that a couple of dumb-assed twats would resort to torturing an autistic kid. it's such an enlightened state...right up there with wyoming and idaho.
  • locoecho
What the fuck does the state have to do with this???? My son lives here along with 100"s of other kids who are Autistic an we don't have the means to get the great help we need to make it past the sadness that comes with Autism.... So our only option is to put our children in school with underpaid help that don't have the heart or right education to treat or help our kids with the true help they need so how about you stop worrying about what state it happened in an start caring about the poor children an their families battling with this sickness everyday,,,,
  • mpaul
Whoa there. No need to insult all of Montana, now. I'm from Great Falls and my cousin goes to the school where this took place. It is absolutely awful what happened there, but that doesn't at all reflect how everyone else in the state acts.

I have a Fragile X son and I am appalled by the boy's treatment by the aids! But I do not like the picture that goes with the article. I assume that the picture is not of the aids therefore should not be in the article.

Thank god there are no previous pictures of this behaviour so I guess they "stuck" something close to it in its place.
  • Savantster
    .
In addition to being a very sick society (you reading this, roooth?), we're a very visual people. The same reason they blocked images of caskets (and are now blocking images of in field wounded) is the same reason Raw put that picture up.. to elicit an emotional response.

Without outrage humans tend not to act.

I'm gonna be the devil's advocate here. Mental health centers have been abusing patients for as long as there have been such places...ala "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" I agree the torture mentality helps these people feel legit in their actions, but this would be going on if there never were a Bush and Cheney. A case of a sensationalized headline taking a story in the wrong direction...which is kinda crummy because it takes the blame off of the crappy administration of the facility and wants to put it on someone else.

And the Principal of my elementary school tells me my concerns for my child's safety are stupid after they LOCKED PARENTS OUT!
Mr.Blake of Stillwater Ele.Ok. GO SUCK ON THIS.
Mr.Bush and Dick Cheney need to hang at the HAGUE.
  • Hologram5
Gee, I don't know what to say I am so appalled at what these asshats have done to this child. These people need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I think they should be put in stocks in the public square and let the public have their way with them. Let the justice begin!
  • anarchisto
This sounds blown out of proportion but it's possible that the kid was abused.
The real tragedy is the increase in autism which may be caused by thimerosal in vaccines.
  • Strategery
It's time for MTV2 and the heroes on that show to pay a visit to these two punk-aides homes for a 'Bully Beatdown!" That program is "ass kickery" in a good way and should be on a prime time tv schedule. I've never been interested in boxing, fight matches, or martial arts but now I am.

    Check it out on YouTube.com
