pelosilook NRCC defends release calling for Pelosi to be put in her placeThe National Republican Congressional Committee did not backpedal Tuesday after coming under attack for a press release calling on a U.S. general to put House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "in her place."

The release was triggered by Pelosi's criticism of Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan. Pelosi told interviewer Charlie Rose, "with all due respect, [McChrystal's] recommendations to the president should go up the line of command. They shouldn't be in press conferences."

Pelosi went on to express doubt that House liberals will support a troop surge in Afghanistan, to which the NRCC replied in a press release:

“General Pelosi has no problem sacrificing her own credibility as the Obama administration and liberals in Congress attempt to walk back a strategy they strongly advocated just months ago,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Nancy Pelosi continues to make party politics a higher priority than our national security. Rather than listening to a four-star general’s assessments on Afghanistan, General Pelosi somehow believes she is better suited to craft our country’s military policy.”

If Nancy Pelosi’s failed economic policies are any indicator of the effect she may have on Afghanistan, taxpayers can only hope McChrystal is able to put her in her place.

"What place does the NRCC think that this accomplished woman — the first female Speaker of the House in U.S. history — deserves to be in?" asked Amanda Terkel at ThinkProgress.

Following-up, Greg Sargent at The Plumb Line got a response from NRCC spokesman Ken Spain, who wrote:

“The Speaker of the House is taking on a highly decorated general who has outlined a strategy in Afghanistan that she once claimed to advocate. This is the same San Francisco liberal whose military foresight — or lack thereof — led her to oppose General Petraeus’ successful surge strategy. Up until it became politically inconvenient, Pelosi and her puppets were referring to Afghanistan as the ‘real central front’ in the war on terror, now their excuse is that there is just not enough political will to keep America safe. Nancy Pelosi might think she’s a general, but she’s playing out of her league and she knows it.”

"I'd just add that Republicans seem to have changed their mind on simply listening to whatever four-star generals have to say," noted Steve Benen at Washington Monthly. "It was, for example, Eric Shinseki who told Senate Armed Services Committee before the war in Iraq that the Bush plan was inadequate and that vastly more troops and resources would be needed for the conflict. Republicans decided not to 'listen to a four-star general's assessments' on Iraq.

"Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), who is close to Pelosi, could barely contain her anger," added Politico.

"I think the place for a woman is at the top of the House of Representatives," she said.

Why do repubes hate America? Why are they criticizing our leaders during time of 2 wars?
I suspect it is because they hate themselves. You notice how often repube men like SonOfLiberty comment on gay marriage and gays in general?
I wonder why they are thinking of other mens p*nis's so much. Probably they have a sexual ID issue. Confusion of some sort. They should just come out of the closet and be happy.

The General is out of his league if he doesnt understand that the civilian leadership including Pelosi is his superior.
How many Gen's did the Cheney admin fire for giving the "wrong" advise?

Next time McCrystal speaks publicly like he did recently will be either just before he is replaced or sometime after.

and Ken Spain is who? what? is he going to be the Speaker of the House someday?
  • I love obama
    Pelosi deserves the dog house!

Is there anyone that thinks Pelosi shouldn't be removed from office? At a minimum?

This is just preaching to the choir.

Thom Hartmann had a guy on yesterday named John Derbyshire, and this guy suggested that women should lose the right to vote, cause they too often vote as liberals. Bill Kristol and Ann Coulter have said the same thing. This appears to be a growing mantra on the Right.

The dems really have painted themselves into a corner.
You can't be the anti war party and the majority with their party leader in the White House and pursue a pro conquest strategy simultaneously.

They're scared to death to be painted with the brush of being the architects of a military defeat... though the GOP conveniently forgets that the last military defeat was under Richard Nixon.
If our goal is to bring western style democracy to Afghanistan, forget it... the last fraudulent election should have been the hint that this an impossibility. Nor would we be able to bring them a secular society especially when we're arguing that one ourselves. Nor can we guarantee them equal rights for their female population when they keep denying them that at every turn.
Nor can we break the back of the Taliban... for every wedding party bombed by robot drone planes we recruit for them, they retreat into Pakistan where even some of the pakistani generals support their (the Taliban's) brand of extremism.

We may learn the lesson the russians learned long ago... but at what cost, and when does the cost become too great?

The reptilian brain is at work with much of the population today. This is evident where you have authoritarianism, militarism, and certainly republicanism.
Reason and rationality plays no part in their thought process but rather a fear based instinct that believes only the strong will survive.
While they reject the theory of evolution, they certainly embrace the racist ideas behind social Darwinism.
You often hear these Cromags say that they have never felt so alive as in battle.
Putting Ms. Pelosi "in here place" is an echo of the male chauvinist past attempting to bully it's way back from the depths of this cold blooded reptilian mentality that unfortunately is so prevalent in our world.

I was unaware that Pelosi made economic policy. As I recall, thing like bailouts and supporting of banks and financial institutions started during the Bush administration and were voted in by a Republican controlled congress in 2008.

Sorry, what? Did history change again?

I'm hard core democrat, and certainly no huge fan of Pelosi...but this NRCC crackpot needs to retake his high school civics class. Pelosi, as Speaker of the House is 4th in line of succession to the presidency. General McCrystal's job is to make strategic and tactical military decisions...not policy! He reports to his chain of command, which reports to the President. It is NOT his place to publicly disagree with U.S. policy. Anyone who is familiar with the Military Code of Conduct knows this. If McCrystal disagrees with policy, his place is to take that to his commanding officer, and so on up the chain to the POTUS, and then the POTUS can either choose to accept or not accept his advice. That is the way our system works. Thus Pelosi was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! McCrystal made a mistake in the Q&A session after his speech in London, and he would probably be the first to admit it! Thusly, I think you can expect him to tone down his rhetoric, or be submitting his resignation in the near future!

This woman is such a blatant idiot that she should NOT be speaker of the Kindergarten house let alone speaker of the House for the Fed Gov't. She obviously is SO out of touch with reality that she does not know her ass from a hole in the ground.
