racistjudgekeithbardwell Justice who blocked interracial marriage: Everybody hates meTerence McKay: 'If it wasn't for interracial couples ... we wouldn't have our president'

Beth and Terence McKay wouldn't be married today if Keith Bardwell, a justice of the peace in Hammond, Louisiana, had his way. Bardwell became the subject of intense controversy last week when he refused to grant a marriage license to the interracial couple, saying he fears for the offspring of mixed-race marriages.

Since then, the Louisiana chapter of the ACLU has called Bardwell's decision "tragic and illegal," and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has called for the justice's license to be revoked. But Bardwell is refusing to resign.

"Despite calls for his resignation, the justice himself says he's not going anywhere, that he's not sorry, and that in fact he's done nothing wrong," CNN's Kieran Chetry reported Monday morning.

Asked by a WFAB-TV interviewer if he was a racist, Bardwell responded: "Absolutely not. My definition of a racist is to hate black people, or treat black people differently than anybody else."

"Everybody hates me," Bardwell told the Associated Press. "Really. I don't know why. I treat people, I figure, equal. I have one problem with mixed marriages and that is the offspring."

But the McKays, who were eventually married by another justice of the peace, aren't convinced they were treated fairly by Bardwell.

"We've retained an attorney, and we're in the process of taking the next steps to make sure that he loses his job," Beth McKay told CNN.

"Everyone is entitled to his opinions, but he's absolutely wrong on all aspects of his stance," Terence McKay said. "He says the only reason he doesn't marry interracial couple is ... because of the offspring of [interracial] marriages. If it wasn't for interracial couples today, we wouldn't have our president."

Bardwell was elected to serve the public. Refusing to do his job due to a personal judgement, is NOT what he was elected to do in his area. He is violating the laws of his holding. What do you do when an elected official refuses to do his job? YOU BOOT HIM FAST.

Are calendars in the red states stuck on 1968?

Keith Bardwell's problem, other than being a racist sack of shit, is that he's also a LYING racist sack of shit. How is denying a black man the right to marry anybody he wants treating "people, I figure, equal?"

Old Keith's got a funny way of seeing equality. It would be really interesting to pick apart his attitudes on race by asking him some questions about what races should be allowed to marry. Would it be okay for a white woman to marry...an Italian? A Mexican? An American Indian? An atheist? A liberal? A Jew? I have a feeling that this guy is an untapped wellspring of down-home country dementia.

They left out the comment this judge made that 99% interracial couples are Black male/White female, and that "confuses" him. How's that for a euphemism. If the truth were closer to 50%, and I'm sure it is, would he be less confused?

The growing extreme right votes Republican, overwhelmingly. And Repubs get very upset if you point out how dangerous and numerous the right wing terror groups are, like those that gather around Stormfront. Far too much of the GOP are absolutely hard core bigots, with their rational explanations for their hatred lined up and practiced. They come off as reasonable and nice. Their favorite site for jokes is TightRope. These people are not innocent or even ignorant, they are studied racists, heavily armed and many are prepared to kill when the time comes. Arms and ammo sales went up 40% after Obama was elected and there was a huge ammo shortage. I don't know if supply has caught up yet. These people have to be stopped.

I happen to have lived in a West Virginia trailer park for the past 15 years. I write anti-war poetry, compose classical music, read Noam Chomsky, have never done any drugs except small amounts of pot, drink only one beer per day on advice from my doctor, am currently watching Free Speech TV, and I don't appreciate all these negative references to people who live in trailer parks. It may not be technically "racist" but it's every bit as bigoted.

He lets his black friends use his bathroom. There you go.
    LOL

Concern for the chil'dens has nothing, I repeat NOTHING, to do with signing a marriage certificate. Just because you're married doesn't mean you're going to breed. And just because you aren't doesn't mean you won't.

The judge's reasoning is specious, at best. He just doesn't like miscegenation, plain and simple.
