Perhaps no one noticed. Perhaps no one cared. But hours after a liberal news forum brought attention to a series of days old controversial photos on the Republican National Committee's Facebook page, the photos were finally taken down.

Among them was a picture of President Barack Obama eating fried chicken, subtitled with a call to prohibit interracial marriage. The photo's caption read: "Miscegenation is a CRIME against American Values. Repeal Loving v. Virginia."

Miscegenation refers to the "marriage or cohabitation between a man and woman of different races." Loving v. Virginia was a landmark Supreme Court case that, in 1967, struck down all of the US's laws against interracial marriage.

This is the photo as it appeared on the GOP's Facebook profile on Monday:

Members of the liberal news forum Democratic Underground launched a discussion about the photos on Sunday night.

"That's blatant f---ing racism, against Facebook rules and basic human decency," one upset commenter stated.

Another commenter noted the Obama photo had been on the RNC Facebook page since October 20. "So it has been up five days and not one person administering the site did anything about it. Apparently the site administrator finds this correctly sums up Republican philosophy."

The photo was posted by a Facebook user named "Gee Dub," apparently in reference to President George W. Bush. A comment by someone using the same user name, posted to the comments section of the RNC's photo page, stated:

"Racism is necessary in our capitalistic system. To subject ourselves to the the socialist ideal of equality will surely destroy the American way of life. As a black man, racism has served as a great inspiration for me to work harder. God bless the Republican Party and God bless America."

It was impossible to tell whether the writer was being sincere, or acting as a "troll" pretending to be a black man in favor of racism.

rncmotherteresafacebook RNC keeps racist pics on Facebook for nearly a weekOther photos causing consternation included one of Mother Teresa, in which the revered religious activist was shown feeding a child. The caption underneath read, "Enabling scab-eating mouth breathers will do them no good. How do we expect them to take care of themselves?" That photo, also posted by Gee Dub, was also removed.

rnckerryfacebookphoto RNC keeps racist pics on Facebook for nearly a weekYet another photo showed former presidential candidate John Kerry with what at first sight appears to be a rifle pointed at his head. The picture was framed in such a way that a gun several feet away from Kerry was made to look like it was aimed at his temple. That photo was removed as well.

None of the photos in question appear to have been posted by the administrator of the GOP's Facebook site.

The anti-interracial marriage photo comes on the heels of a recent controversy over a Louisiana justice of the peace who refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple, sparking outrage among social-justice activists and minority groups.

While most Republicans were quick to distance themselves from the justice's sentiments, at least one high-profile Republican politician -- Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana -- has been criticized for failing to condemn the justice's actions.

The Obama photo was posted to the GOP's Facebook page less than a week after the Louisiana justice's controversial move was made public.

    ITS A FAN PHOTO PEOPLE
anyone who is a member can add any photo they want.

Here is another instance of people making a huge deal about nothing.
1 person is responsible, and this in no way means that the RNC is racist.
  • StillThinksForHimself
Posters and commenters, thanks for jumping to conclusions: what if it was an ultraliberal trying to slander the Republican party?
  • longbill
Oh for crying out loud. What the lack of action on those photos means, you liberal doofus folks, is not that Republicans didn't care, but that the ONLY folks bothering to go to the RNC facebook page were LIBERALS apparently. As usual, sticking their noses into other people's business and looking for offense. It means, nobody goes to or reads the RNC facebook page but you guys. I certainly didn't even know the RNC HAD a facebook page until you busy bodies pointed it out.
And I didn't feel the need to rant and post crap about Daily Kos calling for the outright assassination of a President, or the other vile crap that goes on there. I have a life. Don't YOU guys?

This is ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS. As a college professor, a priest, and a multilingual visitor to many countries in Europe, the consistent question asked of me (over there) is ALWAYS 'Why do you people (Americans) keep voting in idiots?' Up till now, I've been unable to answer the question.

Now, at least, I know why. Barack is an Antichrist, as Scripture defines it. He's literally mind-warped a large portion of the populace, who thinks Mao was a 'social reformer.' But then, Barry's good at it- about the ONLY thing he's good at. So, too are all those who are his 'minions' as Glenn Beck calls them- just like the skulls full of much that are indulging in the scatalogical, and reproductive ad hominem insults that suffuse this post -The types I call perpetual Freshmen of the mind- who usually flunk out of my classes, because I make my students THINK!

But, no matter. Tuesday's upsets in Maine, NJ, and VA. clearly show HE's GOING DOWN.

And a populace who can't make fun of a sitting president, is merely worshiping an idol of their own making... and Obama can't save a damn thing, folks, in case you were wondering. I speak from experience. There is only One Savior of this nation, and you're not working for Him, if you're for Barry Baby.
  • "impossible to tell whether the writer was being sincere, or acting as a troll"

come on now, can you be serious? trolls are easy to spot. don't feed them, they bite.

if you haven't noticed, The RNC fan photos weren't very active with comments, which means - HARDLY ANYONE SAW THE PICTURES. truth is most conservatives don't give a rats ass about the RNC, as they haven't acted in our interest IN A LONG TIME!
  • indithinker
This is a dumb story. This photo was added by a "fan" of the RNC. You have no idea whether this was posted by a Repub. or Dem or just someone who hates all national parties. The fact that the picture was there proves nothing.
  • johnnydrama505
It's also posted by "Gee Dub." Don't you think that could have been anyone from the republicrat party?
  • Irresponsibility at properly maintaining a webpage by and for the RNC is the fault of DEMOCRATS? ------

I guess the Republicans just aren't grown up enough to handle their own business, just cannot manage on their own, and so are perpetual "victims." -------

That is so sad and pathetic!

Both parties are ridiculous. Corrupt to the bone. We should be ashamed of ourselves for accepting the two-party system. Neither party is interested in defending the Constitution or our Republic. Nobody talks about liberty or freedom, personal property rights, or the fact that our government ignores the rule of law. We only have ourselves to blame.

This is a poorly researched article. As one progressive to another, does the author here ever heard of www.stormfront.org? Does the author know what these people do, and how they have learned to do it? Can the author connect the dots here? ... really; there's a whole journalistic career in just following Stormfront boys around and reporting on their hijinks -- one of which you have failed to recognized here.

I'm confused, is the picture racist or the headline underneath? I thin President Obama looks like a down to earth guy like "Joe Sixpack" eating chicken. Now what? I said something wrong?
  • dadude
Has anyone considered the possibility that these were posted by liberals,as a means of sabotage? Just sayin'.....

So, I see TRS has decided it's OK to take down messages from people fed up with the ridiculouse racist crap Old Asslantic and KevinDOH spew, telling them to go fuck themselves and that we look forward to a day when their racist, divisive sorts are gone from the world, but decide it's OK to keep the racist, knuckledragging crap these two buffoons regurgitate?! What the fuck is wrong with you people?

Way to go, editors. Now you know why your site is rife with white supremacists, Becktards, dildoheads and reichwingers. Keep up the good work and soon you'll be able to claim Stormfront as your most active link exchange.

I am not so sure I have ever seen a more bigoted group of morons in my life. Poking the Right for what is obviously a fake Facebook page titled "Republican National Committee" page...the one with a whopping 250 members. (The real one has 95 thousand and is clearly listed as non profit.) Anyone could equally create a "DNC" page and post offensive material as well. And it would be equally foolish for those on the right to lend it credibility. It would seem that some of you are so desirous of dirt, although ignoring completely the immoralities of your own, that you are willing to expose yourself as total morons. You realize that we are all Americans and this sort of dribble creates a divide between us all? Shame on you. Shame on you all.

The picture with President Obama eating chicken wasn't posted by somebody who dislikes Obama. Look at the name of the persone who posted the picture, Gee Dub. It was posted by a liberal trying to get the RNC in trouble. It's a shame it took so long to take it down, but it's more of a shame that some troll posted it seeking to frame Republicans and make them look like the bad guys.
  • Tryin so hard to be cool.
  • Awesome.... The gop is on facebook trying so hard to be cool.

They have continue in the same besmirching and name calling.

Go to the facebook and look at photos, "Thomas Kubica's Photos," photo captioned "Bailout Fascists".

Typical RNC and GOP not a clue on what to do to improve and support the United States, but instantly ready with a smear or name-calling those they don't like and can't beat at the polls. If they continue in that vein they will ensure Democratic Party victorys in many elections to come.

Being American is not being White, or for that matter Black. America is a land of immigrants (you or your ancestors), so unless you are a Native indian-american, don't even try to establish any claims over being 'American' based on color or origin.
  • Republicans would like to take the country back to the 50's, the 1850's.
  • OldAtlantic
What's wrong with that? You could argue that the 1750's, 1850's and 1950's were the best decade in each century.
  • GunTotinLiberal
OldAtlantic is a racist neo nazi that posts on numerous as well as running their own white supremacist website. People like Old Atlantic are typically seen as white trash losers and for good reason. Old Atlantic represents a tiny insignificant minority with no relevancy. People with Down Syndrome have more political clout than someone like Old Atlantic

Ack, they get a pass for "electing" the token Steele, move along.
  • Stephen Martin
If the Republicans keep doing this, they are digging themselves a political hole as a "back in time" party. Selfish fools. Everyone is getting older, not younger, and I don't see younger people embracing such thoughts. They will lose younger people to "independents" which will become a strong pull for disenfranchised young dems and Republicans.

This does nothing to help the GOP so maybe in a twisted way, it's a great thing. Keep it up!
  • Stephen Martin
The Republicans have not kept with the times, and it shows.
  • richsol
All this proves is that they were negligent enough to allow 3rd parties to upload photos without vetting them. For all one knows, the uploaders were deliberate trollers, quite possibly Democrats. The usual "smear the opposition as racists to distract from our failings" tactic that so many Democrats use.

Your comment regarding your genetic theory is quite fascinating and revealing at the same time. After reading your other posts I have a theory concerning your genetics-
My theory is that the best part of you ran down the inside of your mother's legs.

  • Better to be one of those "evil" mixed race children than to be one of those inbred and illiterate Republicans who has to call his older sister "mom" and can't figure out why dad always helps his sister take a bath...
  • Liberal saboteurs. A democrat, posing as a black racist really thickens the subterfuge but come on - this is obviously some Dem who goes online as Gee Dub to poke fun at republicans.
  • Unfortunately, I can completely believe that the picture went unnoticed for a week, because I can completely nobody at the RNC was actually looking at the page.

The Republicans may be going through the motions, pretending that they want to use the same online organizing tools that Democrats did last cycle, but the truth is: They don't. The GOP still sees Facebook, Twitter, and the rest as broadcast media for spewing talking points. They don't actually care what the base is doing (as long as most of the base is following the party line) so they don't pay any attention to the crazy base's replies.
