americanmedicalassociationdoctor Largest retirees group backs House health billIn a coup for House Democrats, AARP will endorse sweeping health care overhaul legislation headed for a history-making floor vote, officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

An endorsement from the seniors' lobby was critical when then-President George W. Bush pushed the Medicare prescription drug benefit through a closely divided Congress in 2003. House Democratic leaders are hoping it will work the same political magic for them as they strive to deliver on President Barack Obama's signature issue.

An announcement from the 40-million member group is expected Thursday, said officials with knowledge of the group's decision. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the endorsement is not official yet.

Backing the 10-year, $1.2 trillion House bill is a tricky move for AARP. Many retirees are concerned about cuts in Medicare payments to medical providers, which will be used to finance an expansion of health insurance coverage to millions of working families who now lack it. Also, AARP says its membership is about evenly divided among Democrats, Republicans and independents, meaning its endorsement in today's highly politicized atmosphere could anger many members.

The AARP will sell out its membership base AGAIN and support corporate America while it pretends to drive a hard bargain.
Seriously, there are so many fake groups out there it is hard to keep score.

Read about this group that is about as genuine as a 2009 tea party.

If AARP has endorsed the health care "reform" bill, then that pretty much guarantees it's nothing more than a give-away to the hospitals, health insurers and drug companies.

That's who AARP is for, and you can look at the pharma bill if you need proof.

    The SELL-OUT is complete now.

    Bingo!
  • doesn't AARP shill for AIG products created after they helped pass Medicare Part D?

If it ain't Single-Payer it ain't shit, I don't care if this crap is endorsed by the reincarnation of "Dr." Zhivago.

A Public Option would be the beginning of us getting to single payer. That is how it worked in Canada. That is also why the insurance companies fight so hard. Social Security and Medicare had to be changed once they got going. We have to keep pushing Washington for what we want.

Good ol' "HARP". Probably can't even remember who the hell they supported in 2000 that started the downfall. By the time this "fiasco" gets off the ground, they won't have to worry---they will have "MediCare" by then. These ol' farts should be pushing for single payer, so their "grand kids" will have an easier time with health coverage so they won't be "nickel and diming" them because all their money goes to paying a premium or worse, they lose their house and have to move in with them. Selfish fucks.

dennycrane: Please remember that getting older isn't a crime or that terrible. Maybe you'll live long enough to find out. Sane civilizations and societies REVERE their elders. Anyway....

This "backing" does NOT come from the senior members but from an AARP board not unlike CEO's and politicians. AND they are NOT necessarily seniors either.

They vote wrong everytime and it's always the democratic party that pulls their asses out. The WWII vets all got help when a democratic president was in office and every damn time they vote for their own selfish reasons. Believe me, I "revere" them too, in fact my best parents are one. But, they needed to get on their electric "Rascals" and go for SINGLE PAYER. Period.
