The Secret Service is trying to uncover who hung an effigy of President Barack Obama in President Jimmy Carter's home town.
The black doll, which bore the president's name, was found in Plains, Georgia on Saturday. A rope was slung around its neck and it was hanging in front of a sign declaring the town as Carter's home.
"In Washington, US Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan confirmed that the agency was investigating the case," the BBC noted. "One Plains resident said the Secret Service had already interviewed local people."
The sign's full text reads: "Plains, Georgia. Home of Jimmy Carter, our 39th President."
"Sumter County Sheriff's Department officials declined comment, referring all calls to the Secret Service," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution added.
Plains, Georgia has about 600 residents.
