CBS Late Night host David Letterman tore into two high profile Republicans during his opening monologue on Thursday night.

“For eight years all we knew about Dick Cheney is that he shot a guy in the face, that’s all we knew,” Letterman mocked. “That and he was always at an undisclosed location.”

Letterman continued, “And now you can’t keep the man quiet. He’s denying now that he ordered torture and he said ‘you people who are saying this call it torture if you want, but where i come from it’s just good, old-fashioned fun.”

“Cheney says waterboarding is not only legal, but it’s aerobic,” Letterman added. “Okay, you’re the boss, Dick.”

Huffington Posts notes that the acerbic late night host tossed some jibes back at his nemesis, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin. Months ago, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate ripped Letterman in the press for making a joke about her teenage daughter having sex with a New York Yankee, which he later apologized for.

Alex Leo writes,

Letterman addressed the rumors swirling that Dick Cheney will run for president in 2012 with Sarah Palin as his VP candidate. “Talk about your dream ticket…Oh, buddy, the comedy recession is over,” he said.

Dave went on to discuss the recently released “Vanity Fair” article on Levi Johnston, in which the father of Bristol Palin’s baby claims Sarah wanted to keep her daughter’s pregnancy a secret.

….

“Oh yeah, like I’m gonna make a joke about this. None of my business. Whatever you want. Live and let live, that’s my motto,” said Letterman to waves of applause. This obvious reference to the trouble he had with Palin supporters after joking about her family a few months back didn’t stop Dave from taking shots at the ex-Governor for her hunting skills and Russia-watching.
