GOP senator to Sotomayor: You have lots of ’splainin to do
A Republican senator is taking fire from the left (Mother Jones and Huffington Post) after apparently imitating Cuban icon Ricky Ricardo (of ‘I Love Lucy’ fame).
After Sotomayor made comments about gun control, “If the threat was in this room, I’m gonna come get you and you go home… and I go home… get a gun go home and shoot you that may not be legal under New York law,” a Republican senator interjected.
“You have lots of ’splainin to do,” quipped GOP Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK).

After all, what value are millions of Hispanic votes? Republicans don’t need ‘em, do they? They certainly don’t think they do. It’s the perfect electoral strategy: offend millions to pick up a couple of thousand lunatic, racist votes.
The Republican way to question someone who has an excellent chance of being the next Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court is evidently to take a stock line out of a situation comedy with an ethnic stereotype from the 1950s. I guess that’s what passes for conservatism, these days. I’d prefer to one day find out what passes for adulthood in a Republican Senator’s mind. I don’t expect a rational answer any time soon.
Although I thought the video was funny, it honestly didn’t seem like a contrived racial reference to me. Not that Coburn isn’t a dick or anything…
Word Coburn straight up Dick. But, Arianna Huffyton can’t link to other sites (PLAGARIZE) as much anymore so she makes “news” out of thin air. What part of La Raza is not racist? If she were concerned at all about other races besides her own wouldn’t she have worked for Amnesty International or the Red Cross or something that doesn’t cater to only one demographic? The question is whether racism is right or wrong. Like I said last week don’t be so fucking surprised the WHite Man is throwing the race card. He has had it thrown at him for 50 years so he knows it when he sees it.

——————————–
There is no question as to whether racism is right or wrong. It is wrong, fool. Period.
The “white man” has had the race card thrown at him for 50 years? The “white man” has had affirmative action since Day One in this nation.
I didn’t know that we had people on here from the Ku Klux Klan.
i resent your implication if by white man “affirmative action” you mean Parents that don’t have illegitimate kids, feed them good diets, and educate them than i guess you are correct.
That is the only affirmative action I have seen in my white life.
Then you’re living in Denial, as many people do. Denial is a very comfortable place for many people. You can pretend to not understand what I was talking about, that also is typical of racists.
And I don’t care what you resent. I meant what I said and I’ll say it again:
The “white man” (meaning the caucasian man) has had affirmative action—privilege, catered to, preference over all other people— since the beginning of the nation based solely on the skin color. And if you don’t know that has been the case, you’re either willfully ignorant and/or living in deep Denial.
“The “white man” has had affirmative action since Day One in this nation. ”
There’s a little more to it than that.
Since some people have ISSUES with the truth, these conversations routinely degrade into a bunch of self righteous fruitcakes screaming “racist!” at the tops of their lungs.. but..
Yes, the Constitution did give Whites privileged status in some ways. It was codified right there in black and white. (So to speak)
Prior to this, England took this privilege by force via colonization. So it existed there too, and to a much greater degree.
Now, in fairness.. White men have accomplished a lot. The country wouldn’t be here, in anything close to its present form, without them. In fact, much of the world wouldn’t be here as it is currently and many of the things we take for granted wouldn’t exist. For all the bitching to the contrary, White men have many, many great achievements to boast.
Among these would certainly be ending slavery. Not just ending it, but integrating and elevating blacks to the status they enjoy currently. No one ever seems to mention this, but look around! There is a black man in the Oval Office. Blacks on the Supreme court and in Congress. All equal in every way before the law and now protected by the same constitution which used to discriminate against them.
If racism is bad, then it should be ended. To be honest, I personally see some ancillary cultural and social benefits from racism on a personal level.. And not for the exclusive benefit of whites, either… As these things are commonly stereotyped.
However, our government belongs to us all and we are all asked to bear a burden to maintain and find it. When it becomes less than colorblind, it is racist and someone, somewhere, is bearing their burden and without equal representation for their effort.
This was wrong then, and it is wrong now.
Choosing to overlook racism in our government because it benefits you today, makes you no better than those people who overlooked it yesterday for the same reason.
Sigh. All of the glaring assumptions made, the arrogance, the nonsense and lies spewed in the above comment. No one has that much time to challenge or correct all of it.
And you’re the one on here who refers to gay people as “faggots” and you’re proud of that derogatory slur and you repeatedly use it and say that you won’t hire “faggots.” An entire group of people you won’t hire, you claim.
So considering that’s the type of person we’re dealing with here, just ignore. Because this person was like talking to a thick brick wall when it came to the gays kissing on the mormon plaza story a few days ago.
Moving on…
I will address this one thing: Our government does NOT belong to us all. It belongs to the corporations, Wall Street, the bankers, the bourgeois elite (as they are called) and the military industrial complex. One would have thought you would have figured that much out by now considering the state of things. I guess you’ve been too busy obsessing and fixating on “faggots” to understand that.
The country wouldn’t be here without “white people?” jesus fuking christ, where do some people come from?! How would you know that? The Native Americans were raped off the land so they didn’t even have an opportunity to develop the country. I guess you didn’t cover that part in history class. I swear, the arrogance and racism in the previous comment is astounding.
“And you’re the one on here who refers to gay people as “faggots” ”
Yes.. but I sometimes call them ass pirates or shit rangers.. It depends on my mood, really.

No, I understand completely and I agree with you.
If there were any doubt about this, the TARP fiasco should have cleared it right up. Americans overwhelmingly rejected it and were overruled.
“jesus fuking christ, where do some people come from?! How would you know that?”
Yes, yes.. I am well aware of the plight of the American Indians. My current wife is a Cherokee. I know all about it.
However, the point was a larger one about the, (often unacknowledged) good which White males have done and their many achievements.. Certainly including, but by no means limited to, not just freeing their slaves, but elevating and protecting them via the highest law in the land.. The Constitution.
Jesus, idiot: you have a spellchecker for a reason — use it.
As for your ignorant, racist comments, I’m hoping Microsoft will someday create a moron checker that will filter asinine comments like yours.
Also, what type of fucking retard believes the “WHite Man” (tellingly stupid capitalization) has had the race card “thrown at him for 50 years”?! What major event happened 50 years ago to make this ridiculous claim even slightly plausible?
Pull your head out of your ass, natty: the fumes are making you dumber than normal.
Pathetic. But that’s what I expect from these war criminal parasites called “senators.” I know many people fawn, bow down and worship these scum because they’ve been brainwashed to do so. Many people say, “Oh, so and so is a senator. Oooooooooooooooh.” Big fuking deal. As far as I’m concerned they are trash and war criminals. And if one wants to fawn over that, what does that say about YOU?
Most of them show their willful ignorance more often than they wish to, They try to be funny when they’re not. Such was the case in this video. And such was the case yesterday when one of these pieces of trash didn’t know that the word “Latina” is used for a female. This fool kept saying, “Latino.” More ignorance. And they seem proud of their willful ignorance.
So these are the so-called “lawmakers?” This crowd. There’s no wonder why things are in the state that they are.
Republicans are really tired of politics. They want to return to their former jobs.
I wish they would ALL return to their former jobs, except for Kucinich. Keep him and then start all over (without Diebold, of course) and give most of the public intense psychotherapy to deprogram that brainwashed “Dem Team” and “Repug Team” partisan shit. It’s no different than the Floating Cloud Being indoctrination.
“Although I thought the video was funny, it honestly didn’t seem like a contrived racial reference to me. Not that Coburn isn’t a dick or anything.” Exactamundo. This “story” won’t hunt. The comment was so off the cuff, and the “splainin” DeziArnez/RickyRichardo phrase has become so much a part of the popular vernacular … that, unfortunately, this is a case of our liberal, progressive compatriots inventing a disingenuously exploitative news-fishing story. Not that Republicans aren’t racist assholes or anything.
Tempest in a tea pot..
Whooptie doo.
I wish this “okie” would travel and do stand up comedy so I could nail him with a coconut.
Do us all a favor and shove it in your mouth instead..
Needless to say, the repuglicunt’s haven’t been hiding their racism too well during these confirmation hearings. Subtlety is not their strong suit.
The cowards in the GOP should just attend tomorrow’s hearing wearing their pointy hoods and white sheets and be done with it.
Racism, domestically anyway, is the hallmark of the Democrats.. Not the Republicans.
You’re espousing quaint, pat and untrue stereotypes in lieu of an actual argument.
Happens a lot around here.

Think you can hook me up with your dealer? I mean, that’s some mighty powerful shit you’re smokin’, Mr. Man, and I’d like to be just as delusional as you are.

Blah, blah, blah,blah.. white this, white that, blah, blah, blah…look troll, the slaves practically built every fucking building across this “whitey” nation, That’s why they call it the “white” house. In fact, they even discovered America. Fuck you and that “white” elephant with the “upside-down” stars on its ass.
Um, excuse me.. But there’s Lincoln (Republican) abolition. The civil rights act of 1964 (opposed by democrats) First black man on the supreme court. Head of the RNC is a black man. etc, etc..
The Democrats, OTOH, have nothing to offer but former Klansman they made senators and continued racism codified in law and enforced by the federal government.
Domestically, Republican policies are colorblind, while Democrats are little more than reverse and closeted racists even to this very day..
These days, Republican racism manifests itself primarily in terms of foreign policy. Here at home, there is very little racist ammunition to throw at them in the policy arena.
PS: You are a serial liar.
You rationalize everything, ignoring any point that doesn’t fit neatly into your bias and narrow, hopelessly partisan and child like world view.
It would be very difficult to function normally as an adult with an attitude and worldview such as yours. My guess is you don’t.
If jexlax defends this kind of bullshit, he probably lives this kind of bullshit. Behind peoples’ backs more than likely.
Can you give us a movie “review” of “Birth of a Nation” while you’re blabbering?
Please, just go outside and rattle your Playskool slave chains..
The adults are trying to have a conversation.
Actually, the situation is the GOP is loaded with jerk offs, and some of them uses an opportunity to prove just how much of a jerk off they really are, instead of taking care of the PEOPLES business that they were sent to DC to do and are PAID to do.
OH well, hopefully the people that put them there will not be impressed by their stupidity and remove them the next election.
“OH well, hopefully the people that put them there will not be impressed by their stupidity and remove them the next election.”
LOL! You REALLY think this confirmation hearing is going to turn the election in 2010 or 2012?
LAWL!
You had better hope Sotomayor makes good decisions. If not, then her every mistake will remind people who wanted her, and who didn’t.
But the confirmation hearing itself will be long forgotten. By next year, no one will remember this.. They’ll just notice her when she screws up, and credit the democrats for her presence.
Then again, by next year, unemployment will be up, interest rates will be up, inflation will be eating away at the paychecks of retirees. Energy prices will be up.. EVERYTHING will be up, except the Democrats!
They’ll be DOWN and their hero will be remembered as a combination of the worst aspects of George “W” Bush and Jimmy Earl Carter.
Sotomayor won’t be anything but a negative.. One more negative on top of a heap of negatives.
See you in the funny papers!
PS: Hey, speaking of next year.. What ARE you guys going to do?
It will be Obama’s economy by then. Screaming “But, but.. Teh Republicans!11!!” will fall on deaf ears, because you bought in to the tune of a trillion bucks.
Unless something changes, democrats are poised over the pit of electoral faildom… With no hope in sight.
It’s the economy, stupid!
The economy is where it is because of BOTH PATHETIC, PRO-WAR, PRO-CORPORATE, ANTI-US CONSTITUTION PARTIES.
Stop this elementary school, “my team is better than your team”
R and D partisan shit. Both teams are scum. They are both in on and accomplices to the Bush agenda, which savior Obama is continuing.
Both the “Repug Team” and the “Dem Team” consist of war criminal scum.
GWB and Dick Cheney are war criminals just like savior Obama and Biden are war criminals. Again, savior Obama IS CONTINUING the Cheney/Bush agenda, so the Repug kool-aid drinkers should be very pleased with him, while the Dem kool-aid drinkers try to make excuses and defenses for the indefensible (Bush-accomplice) head of their “team,” savior Obama.
THIS TEAM MENTALITY IS PATHETIC. It’s so juvenile. This partisan team shit, of my party versus your party. We are where we are because of this “team” shit and the D and R suckers who feel they must defend their “team” no matter what their “team” so-called leaders do. People do the same thing with their religious views. My church and god versus your church and god. Pathetic.
Want change?
Then THE PEOPLE MUST CHANGE. Because we are not about to see real positive change with people cemented in their brainwashed D and R partisan “team” shit.
Here’s an idea: Elect a true progressive (not some useless Dem that pretends to be a progressive) but a true independent, non-partisan progressive. That hasn’t been done on this planet yet.
Judge Sotomayor laughed it off. Thus, she won. Solid, classy move. She looked very comfortable, very poised.
Which isn’t to say that Republicans can’t still be made to pay mightily for stupid remarks like that.
Se puede reir y sonreir mientras que corta la garganta del pendejo racista.
(You can smile and laugh while you cut the racist fool’s throat.)
Ah, poor, poor Republicans.
Maybe, just maybe, they’d have a chance if they tried to LEARN Spanish. By staying on the path they’re on, they’re losing the Hispanic vote forever.

PS…PS…
Shut the fuck up…..it’s none of business WHAT we’re going to be doin’…….pull your self up by your bootstraps and buck up-bucko. Do your own thing….leave us alone….what’s it to you
You and your fellow bleeding vagina’s will cry like children next november.
I’ll be here to watch.
I have to agree with you satan, after seeing the video and looking at his body posture he just didn’t pronounce his ex in the splaining. I’ve heard him speak before and it mostly has to do with his dialect.
Sotomayor missed a golden opportunity.
She should have looked blankly at the asshole and said, “I don’t get it.”
Then let him explain his cheap Ricky Ricardo riff.
From that racist prick Sessions implying that her differing from a colleague also of Puerto Rican heritage was somehow a black mark evidently because as we all know, all Puerto Ricans think alike, to this not-so-subtle racial slur, these pigs are whooping it up and energizing their base.
The only problem is, the ever-present twenty five percent of the electorate who live in trailer parks and vote Republican because they share fascist instincts are insufficient to win an election. My hope is that the thoughtful independent voter will recognize this for what it is.
Clarence Thomas got a pass on testimony that he was a sexual harasser and a pornography aficionado. He managed to rebrand the sworn testimony of his African-American female victim into a “high tech lynching.” The witness herself was demonized and her character was assassinated, meanwhile, the perp got a position on the Supreme Court. Since then he’s proven himself to be the most intellectually incurious rubber stamp for the policies of the fascists. And these bigoted right wing asswipes are still seeking retribution for exposing their misogyny and their abject racism.
So, fuck them, fuck their entire family, and fuck the horse they rode in on. The next Republican convention will be held in a sewer.
“Sotomayor missed a golden opportunity. She should have looked blankly at the asshole and said, “I don’t get it.”
No, that’s exactly what you don’t want to be — combative — as she’s a shoe in unless she chose to follow your advice.
Secondly, as always Stephen Colbert said it best, “Republicans are in a terrible quandry: they love Stomomayor’s “racism” but hate her race.”
Sez it all.
Obama will always be the one cleaning up the BUSH / GOP DEPRESSION. Just as FDR cleaned up the HOOVER / GOP DEPRESSION. Historical re-writes won’t work Conservatives. YOU own this DEPRESSION.
