Appearing on Fox & Friends Tuesday, Liz Cheney appeared to take credit for keeping the country safe from terrorism, saying “we have kept the nation safe since 9/11,” before turning a critical eye toward Attorney General Eric Holder for reportedly considering an investigation of the prior administration’s torture program.

Citing three unnamed sources, The Washington Post said Sunday that Holder was leaning towards appointing a special prosecutor to probe Bush-era excesses.

But such a move could set the stage for a conflict with the current administration of President Barack Obama, which wants to leave these issues in the past.

Top Obama aides have expressed concern that such an investigation might trigger partisan debates that could overtake Obama’s ambitious legislative agenda, the report said.

“We can’t [keep the country safe] without the right intelligence and the situation we’re in now has really hurt morale at the [CIA] and harmed our ability to get that intelligence,” said Cheney.
