Helen Thomas hits White House for lack of transparency
At the White House presser on Wednesday, several correspondents questioned the way the Oval Office selected questions from the public for today’s virtual town hall.
President Barack Obama answered pre-selected questions Wednesday afternoon about health care sent in from emails, Facebook and Twitter. CBS’ Chip Reid and columnist Helen Thomas thought this reflected a lack of transparency at the White House.
“It feels like the concept of a town hall, I think, is to have an open public forum. And this sounds like a very tightly controlled audience and list of questions. Why do it that way?” asked Reid.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs deflected the question, but that only raised the ire of Helen Thomas, UPI’s veteran correspondent who has long been at the top of the White House press corps totem pole.
“We have never had that in the White House,” Thomas said, referring to the degree that press events are pre-scripted in the Obama administration. “I’m amazed, I’m amazed at you people who called for openness and transparency…”
That’s when things got testy, and Gibbs looked very uncomfortable as Reid and Thomas took turns attacking his evasive answers.
“Calling reporters the night before, telling them they’re going to be called on — that’s shocking,” Thomas said, referring to an incident last week when Huffington Post blogger Nico Pitney was given advance warning that he would be called on to ask a question on behalf of the Iranian public.

As one of millions who voted for, campaigned for, and contributed to the Obama campaign, I’ve got to say he’s starting to piss me off. Where’s the change we can believe in? Sure he has a mess of Bush left-overs on his plate, but pre-arranged questions shouldn’t be one of them. This bullshit about indefinite detention of so-called “enemy combatants”, “moving forward” instead of prosecuting war criminals, and no single-payer health care even though 70% of Americans wants it (and now we have the 60 votes), all is testing my patience. Go get ‘em Helen!
“As one of millions who voted for, campaigned for, and contributed to the Obama campaign,… ”
——————————————-
You should have written “As one of millions of SUCKERS….
Because that’s what every goddamned fool who voted for this fraud was. A Sucker. Some of us tried to tell you and others but you refused to hear it. We tried to present War Criminal Obusha’s BUSH-ACCOMPLICE VOTING RECORD from the senate, but we were shouted down by angry chants of “hope” and “change we can believe in” manure.
DENIAL was the modus operandi of the clueless Obamabots. So now deal with it. You had 2 very progressive choices (Nader and McKinney) but most people didn’t have the intelligence or foresight to vote for either of them because they didn’t have a big D behind their name and many people said, “well they can’t win.” Well they can’t if the gullible fools in the majority refuse to vote for them. DUH.
He has a “mess of Bush left-overs on his plate” that War Criminal Obushma HELPED TO CREATE as a senator. You deliberately left that out. War Criminal Obushma begged for the job of president, he asked for the job, he asked for your vote (and millions of SUCKERS allowed themselves to fall for this War Criminal) so there is no need for anyone to makes excuses or apologies for him by saying such drivel as “he has a mess of Bush left-overs on his plate.”
If he called himself a “Republican” would you have written the same thing?
Dear imsam: I was one of the millions of “suckers” who voted for Obama. I did it with full knowledge of his hypocritical stands on most of the major issues that affect us. Unfortunately, Nader and McKinney were not realistic alternatives. Indeed, there is a good argument to be made that Nader cost Gore the 2000 election, and we all know what that did for us from 2001 to 2009. The real problem with American elections lies not with the candidates, but with the fact that corporate lobbyists have infected the entire political process and rendered the elections meaningless. Our Government has become by, for and of the private interests of the monied. Do you really believe that Nader, even assuming that he could have been elected, would have been successful at governing?
Nader and McKinney were not realistic alternatives. Indeed, there is a good argument to be made that Nader cost Gore the 2000 election,
—————————–
Actually President Gore won the 2000 election. Sorry you didn’t keep up and get that news bit.
Nader and McKInney were not realistic alternatives because most people including yourself didn’t have the intelligence or foresight to vote for them. And in 4 years, you and others will repeat the entire exercise all over again, having learned nothing from this experience. Our society will never get anywhere with this kind of thinking. Period.
IMSAM: Good post, but the response to “Douvie” missed the biggest flaw consistently bleated out by that mind-set.; that Gore would’ve been substantively different than Bush. If McCain had won, they’d be saying “Well Barak wouldn’t have…[escalated Af-Pak, surpressed torture documents, lavished money on Wall St. crooks, continued signing statements, & indefinite detention.] And we’d have single-payer Health Care… He SAID so!” Gore, as VP, was an enthusiastic proponent of the weekly bombing of and sanctions on Iraq that resulted in 1/2 a million deaths, mostly of kids under 5 yrs. The 2 parties play these fools to keep them preoccupied. The agenda for both is set by the Anglo-American bankers.
I guess you missed the part where he was asked what kind of change he planned that we could believe in and he answered.. I am the change.
So there,, you can believe in him. HE is your change.
“Understand where the vision for change comes from, first and foremost,” Obama said. “It comes from me. That’s my job, is to provide a vision in terms of where we are going, and to make sure, then, that my team is implementing.”
Ditto.
However, if it takes putting everything on a back burner until we get MEANINGFUL (single payer and/or strong public option) healthcare reform, then I will be patient. But this talk of hope and lack of action show is wearing thin. And what about spying on all communications in this country w/o a warrant? Where is his backbone?
I have to agree. These attempts at bipartisanship are weakening important Bills to offer a sense of bipartisanship when in reality they are working to make sure his agenda fails. It’s time to take off the gloves and use that majority as a club like the GOP did, but in an effort to correct their wrongdoing - not more of the same. Many people believe that as Obama took office, prior to taking-up residence in the White House that he was threatened; whether it was with violence or the release of information gleaned under the Patriot Act which makes all of OUR lives transparent has not been mentioned, and as far as I know, it’s speculation at this point - however the way Cheney has come forward and essentially admitted to War Crimes and remains free, I have to ask why the DOJ hasn’t acted.
I’m watching and waiting, hoping that Obama is a seasoned street fighter in the political arena, which he had to be in Chicago to succeed, that will reveal itself in the coming months when a mass purging of ex-Bush Officials from the White House, Department of Defense, DOJ, and other major governmental departments occur. I believe the President’s legal team is frantically looking for legal ways in which to overturn several Bush era policies that he helped to cement-in with his last minute signing statements and Executive Orders.
Once Obama becomes secure with his own safety and that of his family, if it can be accomplished, “Change we can believe in” might begin to happen. There appear to be some new dynamics in Washington that so far, not enough time has evolved to see whether Obama is nothing but talk or whether he’s positioning himself so that he can act with the full authority of the Presidency; if and when that occurs remains to be seen, and I may be nothing but a hopeless optimist - but if it does happen, it will likely happen in a well coordinated move that I’m hoping will result in some arrests - perhaps under the Patriot Act, for some of the Bush and Cheney actions that may have amounted to treason and war crimes.
The clever actions that were taken by the Bush administration to make life difficult for President Obama were well planned and executed, our signal that they were likely brought forward by Cheney’s team - not Bush’s. Democrats and Liberals have either blundered again, or else we are soon to witness a President that stands-up for his beliefs once he has managed to shed the shackles imposed upon him by Bush/Cheney. I’m working on research right now that indicates both Bush administrations sold American nuclear secrets to the Chinese in actions that some call treasonous, and Pakistan’s Kahn was also involved with the Chinese - a fact the MSM has largely suppressed.
What a complicated web of deceit has been spun by both Bush administrations when they endangered the American public by selling nuclear secrets and technology that could easily be turned against us. Money and greed, the only Gods that were worshiped by the White House have endangered our nation and made America a much less safe place to live in.
So when Helen kicks the bucket will the 4th estate finally be dead?
Note to Gibbs:
1) Respect you elders
2) Do not interrupt your elders
3) Don’t laugh at them at something only YOU find humorous.
4) Quit jerking Ari Fleischer off in the bathroom.
Yes, I think it will be dead.
Your notes to Gibbs couldn’t have been put better. The condescending tone he was using with Helen really pissed me off.
At this point both Gibbs and Obama strike me as condescending, smirking snobs.
I cant stand watching this full of himself windbag gibbs. what an A-hole! that BS chuckling to himself and looking around because he thinks everyone is laughing with him…..what a dick.
yeah, change you people voted for. at this point it is so obvious that voting for anyone in the dem or repub field is a wasted vote…they are ALL bought and paid for except maybe ron paul. time to get some true third party people in. open your eyes people.
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the mainstream right and left media are bought and paid for — so now we have the Huffington Post being a White House mouth piece and Fox News plays the role of the outraged opposition.
Give me a break. It just goes back and forth while giving the illusion that there’s actually a difference between the two.
“See the new boss, same as the old boss.”
Pete Townsend gets it right.
“We won’t be fooled again!”
Pete Townsend gets it wrong.
Right-on.
The Obamabots and the Dem kool-aid drinkers will repeat the entire exercise all over again in 2012. It’s a given. They refuse to learn.
They will whine:
“Well, I haven’t always agreed with Obushma and he may not be perrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect, (they always have to say THAT) but he’s better than the R candidate (or at least I choose to believe that) so I’m sticking with Obushma. Go Obama go.”
Sigh. The D and R sheep refuse to learn.
And the down-ward spiral will continue.
Headline: Dems Commit Healthcare Suicide
Sub: Mass Exodus from Party.
Big wins for GOP ensured - Obama 1st One-term President since GHW Bush.
Gay people have been betrayed. The last thing you want on your back are bitter queens. But it’s too late.
…………………HAVE I GOT SOME BAD NEWS FOR MR. OBAMA………………….
I am a life long REPUBLICAN who said he would NEVER vote REPUBLICAN again since REAGAN was in office. I worked for BOB DOLE (R) in 1974 against Dr. Bill Roy at the height of Watergate for Christ sake!! I worked for Claire McCaskill (D) in 2006. LOOK OBAMA. I am one of those old folks who know that FICA was a Safety Net not an insurance policy. I saved my money & still do. Plus I make plenty of that money. I only registered on Medicare because i had to at 65. MR OBAMA …we remember what YOU said. YOU spoke in specifics. You provided HOPE & ,ever I dare say, INSPIRATION.
STOP this nonsense NOW or you will have
A,… A MAJOR Third party (I doubt)
or
B, …Utter CHAOS (more likely)
Helen has terrified White House press secretaries for decades. I hope to see her meet one in her lifetime that doesn’t have to hide from her in fear.
One more unfortunate way in which Obama channels Bush.
Obama has surrounded himself with the wrong people; old Clintonistas who set the table for Bush’s feast and the author’s of America’s demise. He has failed to flush out the layers of Bush holdovers.
The result is that he has both isolated himself from the mainstream of American thought and made himself vulnerable by failing to serve the interests of those who elected him.
Just when he most needs to hear from the American people the most, he can no longer afford to. People are so angry and disappointed with him it’s sure to be a public relation’s nightmare.
Like his predecessor, instead of admitting his errors and failures, he instruct his Press Secretary to fob off important questions and uses his bully pulpit for spin.
None of what savior Obushma has done so far should surprise anyone who was paying attention during the campaign. Did you really “change” from a candidate who had a wall of US flags behind him at every speech in Bush/Cheney style, and who wore and still wears a flag lapel pin just like Bush/Cheney? These things may appear trivial to some, but they are all part of the Imperalistic package of which War Criminal and Bush-accomplice Obushma is continuing.
War Criminal Obushma surrounded himself with the “wrong people” by CHOICE. He choice the people around him. One would not have been surprised by any of his choices and decisions to date if one had examined his Bush-accomplice voting record as a senator and actively listened to what he said during the campaign OUTSIDE of his speeches designed to dupe the gullible sheep.
He has no interest in hearing from the “American people” at all because the “American people” of which you write are NOT his owners. His owners are the corporations, the military industrial complex, the Pentagon et al.
As with Bush regime (which savior Obushma is continuing), it doesn’t matter how angry and disappointed in him some people are or may become. His poll numbers don’t matter either. None of that stuff matters for the Obushma regime when we have Diebold.
How do you grade the Obama Administration on transparency?
http://www.youpolls.com/details.asp?pid=5653
.
I don’t regret voting for Obama because there are many issues I agree with him, however, this is NOT one of them. Needless to say, I’m disappointed.
Good for Helen Thomas in holding Gibbs feet to the fire.
Where were these same Journalists asking Bush why he had pre-selected questions before the Iraq War started?
Watch for yourself: Buying The War w/Bill Moyers

Remember?
Thank you, lapdogs!
I’m all for Helen Thomas kicking some Ari Fleischer wanna-be ass but finding it “shocking” is what is shocking. What the f*ck were these so-called “journalists” doing during dubya?
What a buncha pond scum. DO YOUR JOBS! Grow some! Don’t take that shit from any more press secretaries. Perino, McClellan, Fleisher and on and on. They make me want to puke. But, then, so does the acquiescing WH press.
Remember the ‘cell phone’ incident. He was addressing the fact that “the president had reversed course on his initial decision to allow the release of photos showing harsh detainee treatment at Guantanamo Bay.” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/13/gibbs-let-off-hook-by-whi_n_203085.html). Remember that?? But, there were the entire press corp guffawing heartily as Gibbs played with a cell phone.
Then they all went to dinner and Gibbs paid. And guffawed some more. Seriously.
Hail Helen!…
Helen Thomas is right on!
Obama and his handlers had better wake up, slap themselves in the face
and scour their collective conciseness for some honest answers regarding the so-called “transparency” that they clearly bull-shitted us about to get elected.
We’re not stupid … they’d better conjure up a candid approach for any future explanations.
Helen Thomas is a icon and I’m telling you, whatever Helen says, I’m going to stand behind it. Her is spot-on and our Press Secretary was just pwned by her.
Granted I think this sort of banter would never happen in the Bush White House Press briefings, and so I’m sure these reporters are airing a lot of issues that have piled-up under BushCo.
But still, it’s refreshing to see the press corps trying to actually do their job for once!
I am just trying to understand this. I think most of us are starting to question Barak’s behavior. Is it that A) Once you get on the inside things are really that different and you have to play your cards close to your chest for legitimate reasons, or B) We were all scammed and he is not who we thought he was, or C) Any President is a tool controlled by some secret corporate cabal? Just for future reference I would like to know if it’s even worth voting anymore.
A/ is incorrect. …. B/is correct …. C/is correct.
Inregard to your comment: Just for future reference I would like to know if it’s even worth voting anymore.
The answer is NO….
Is it worth voting? You ask THAT as the 4th of July approaches? Voting takes MAYBE 20 minutes and always at least registers your opinion. 233 years ago the enemy was the worlds’ biggest empire, with the most powerful fleet and a huge army! Comfortable, well-off people risked everything (and in some cases lost everything) for the idea of not being constantly ripped off and controlled by an aristocracy. People all over are waking up like they haven’t in a hundred years! You shouldn’t be discouraged, you and I and every thinking person across this country should be contacting friends, neighbors and (esp.) every interest group in America that is sick of being sold out by the Corporatists’ Party (Dem/Rep). Environmental, women’s, gay, peace, social justice groups have all had it. Re-start the Populist Party, the 1st to advocate 8 hr days (remember those?), women’s suffrage, graduated income tax, and more. Ride this unprecedented discontent. If everyone reading just Raw story, Common dreams, CounterPunch etc. got the ball rolling THIS WEEK, by next November we’d have a real electoral revolt brewing. Vote them ALL out, with the few exceptions you all know (Kucinich, Sanders Waters etc). “Don’t mourn, organize”– Joe Hill
I’d say it was worth it in Minn. but if this were six years ago, with a little “sleight of hand” or a plane crash or some other manufactured diversion, Coleman would have it. Too many people were watching every move on this one.
Perhaps that’s what it will take… some loud and obnoxious watch-dog types that won’t rest for the b.s. Oh wait, shouldn’t that be all American’s caring about their vote? I think it might take more than a 20 minute commitment after all. And who has that kind of time? Aren’t the mob wives of NJ on or something?
Uh, did anyone actually WATCH the video? She blasted him about Nico Pitney, the blogger who asked the question on Iran from HuffPo?
I thought everyone here was on his side of the story? Is there that short of an attention span here or did people simply read the title?
She was right until she talked about Nico Pitney, from there, she looked like every single press corps stooge.
Good for Helen! Go get him, Helen!
I voted for him on the basis of his campaign promise on openness and transparency….Live up to it, Obama!
I’m just “shocked” that didn’t have any good questions for him about Michael Jackson.
I have lost faith in Obama, he’s tiptoeing around as though he’s afraid of breaking something, the perfect word is spineless. Hey Obama, I think you’ve started worrying about your legacy a bit too soon, be careful or you won’t have one.
Savior Obama is spineless? Hardly! I take it you know nothing about his Bush-accomplice voting record from the senate. He’s doing exactly what the corporate whores tell him to do. Cheney is the real operator here, which is why some of us said “these people (Bush/Cheney) aren’t going anywhere in January” and they haven’t.
Obama has a spine of steel to do exactly as he is told, which may have been the deal made for him to take office in the first place. He will pacify the sheep with feel-good empty speeches, and the sheep will vote him in again in 2012. Nothing new there. Same old story. Move on.
The present day 2 party system is completely controlled by monied interest. The only differences between the parties are the marketing slogans used during the campaign- and there is no real difference between the agenda of either of the 2 parties once in power. Get it — we are sold marketing slogans during the campaigning, and that’s all they are- marketing slogans for suckers.
Under Bush we had scripted press and town hall events, do you remember the outrage? And now under Obama we now have scripted press and town hall events — where’s the change and where’s the outrage? Under Bush we had endless war, and under Obama we will have the same. The coming reduction in troops in Iraq will simply be offset by troop increases in Afghanistan, Pakistan and various African nations- a reshuffled deck, and nothing more. The imperialistic endeavors of the U.S will not be reduced one iota under Obama. The move towards fascism will not be slowed or stopped under Obama.
The only way to effect any real change is by voting independent/ 3rd party candidates from here on in. Don’t be suckered again!
I wish Obama would get rid of some of those ‘advisors’ who are terrified of Cons that make scandals out of specious speculation and hold steadfast that ‘bi-partisan’ is a requirement of governing and getting things done. He can start with Rahm Immanuel whose been about as effective as a chunk of cheese getting Democrats in line and crafting a solid message to squash Cons from ever coming out of their holes! Then he can booth Larry Summers and get someone in there like Paul Krugman or if WH/government experience counts then Robert Reich to direct economic policy. Oh, and campaign to can Harry Reid as fast as possible!
Part of the problem, a BIG part of the problem is that Democrats don’t have Obama’s back! They run like scared little monkeys and check each other for cooties at the first hint of a fight with Cons.
A majority means NOTHING if you can’t get your lieutenants to kick some ass when it’s necessary!
Hold Obama’s feet to the fire Helen.
Does any pharma company make something like Viagra Democrat’s can take to stiffen their spines and keep their knees from buckling?
Helen has more true fight left in her at her age than Obama will ever have! This White House is just another gutless political circus. The White House has no alternative but to control the press, otherwise, how else are they going to go on avoiding answering why there are no torture prosecutions, why trashing the 4th amendment continues, why are the too big to fail banks getting away with the biggest bank heists in history, and still being allowed to continue gambling, why are there still 130, 000 troops remaining in Iraq, why after billions disappeared in Iraq and millions wasted over Katrina aren’t private contractors going to jail?
here today, here tomorrow
Its not fair to bash those of us who believed Obama. We were desperate for change after eight years of that bumbling idiot in office. Its clear that it doesn’t matter who we elect. Big corporation have bought and paid for this country years ago. Game over America. As long as our politicians are controlled by outside influences, we will never have a govt that represents the people.
Well said. The only ‘outside influence’ the politicians should be controlled by are the people that vote for them!
It is doubtful that anyone is pinning blame on the mislead voters, except for the limbaughs out there. Obama, definitely took full advantage of deceiving desperate voters into his campaign for change, transparency, and openness. Ha!, ya, he is open all right, open for business as usual! And, this BS of not holding the previous administration and corporations accountable for breaking the law will eventually bring this country to a full collapse. What’ya expect from elephants and donkeys except piles of dung.
Obama = No Change
The Press is pissed off because Nico was asked by the Administration to obtain a question from Iran citizen…Nico is over at Huffington post and is just about the only person working day and night to get information out to the public from the Iranian protesters…The Main Stream Media has failed. It’s more important to talk about sex and death of celebrities for them news is just entertainment for them and most of America just eat this Sh** up.
The MSM is still leaving in the 20th century and face book, tweeter and blogs is having to do there job and that just pisses them off.
I want Bush Administration to be held accountable for there crimes, but lets not forget it was congress that let Bush get away with all this and therefore gave it to Obama, one would say unitary power that he has. If the voters be they Dems/Republicans/Independents don’t begin to come together and demand accountability no President will give up the power they inherit just a fact jack.
Helen Thomas is my hero.
Guts! Unlike our Congressional Democrats.
Or President.
I agree with westcoastliberal

iamsam vomits: “Nader and McKInney were not realistic alternatives because most people including yourself didn’t have the intelligence or foresight to vote for them.”
First off, you’re not a sucker, you’re just a fucking nincompoop.
Nader is an egomanic, nothing more, and he most assuredly put Bush into office. Nader made the vote close enough in Florida for Bush to steal the election. Had 90,000 of Nader’s votes in Florida gone to Gore, there would never have been an Iraq war. Them’s the facts. But still, like a belligerent teenager who thinks they know every fucking thing but in reality doesn’t know shit, people like you refuse to take responsibility for your actions.
McKinney lost my respect when she slugged a cop who was just trying to do his job, and then play the race card yet to defend her actions. She’s a kook with a chip on her shoulder, and no one that’s mentally unstable is fit for any office as far as I’m concerned. Yes, she’s regained some of her former respect by her unreported participation in the humanitarian ship to Gaza that the Israelis have pirated off the high seas. But President? Are you some sort of Republican operative or what?
I’m not happy with Obama either, but no one was under any illusion that he was a liberal. Unlike his opponent, I do think he responds to public pressure, and we need to speak up and give him cover if we want to get the hard things done. By contrast, when you’re truly naive, you’ll never understand that a McCain/Palin administration would have us in a far worse position, like Bush did when the Nader voters ushered him into office.
This is your growth opportunity, iamsam. This is your chance to extricate your head from your ass, or, if you prefer, remain a little cog in the right wing’s machine to elect Republicans.
That’s up to you, but spare us the fucking lectures from someone who obviously knows not their own ass from their elbow.
Speaking of “not knowing their own ass from their elbow”… If Gore had been elected there would’ve never been an Iraq war?? “Thems the facts” Um, no. Uneducated people don’t seem to catch the difference between facts (indisputable assumptions), which this simply isn’t, and opinions, which this clearly is. You may BELIEVE it to be true, but it’s still an opinion, not a fact. Further, for reasons I explained in my post above, it’s not even credible. Rather than re-explain (you can scroll up and read it) let me expand. The Rep. party is for crazy authoritarians, crazy/stupid enough to buy the agenda of the Internat’l Bankers. The Dem. party exists to draw off the dissent so it doesn’t get in the way of the Bankers’ agenda. Think Fred Astaire/Ginger Rodgers. Looked at individually, they appear to be doing everything the opposite of the other. Together, it’s the same dance. If you’re dumber enough to think that’s an alternative (and your abusive, yet vacuous, arguments suggest… not a 1st rate intellect at work) you’ll spend the rest of your life on the “realistic alternative” (as defined for you buy the corporate press, according to their agenda) treadmill… PS Nader’s an egomaniac, nothing more? May I mention seat-belts, Freedom of Info Act, air bags… oh hell, I’d be here all day.
“Richard” Gibbs?
Transparency is a good beginning, but without the added ingredient of accountability, it works as a poison.
all the world looks on
and starts to realize
just how insidious the
corporate interests are
in getting a president elected.
even when the “great mulatto hope”
made it into the whitehouse
and all the world rejoiced,
we see now the grotesque
second foot-falling of capitalism.
all the smoke-filled room deals
are now apparent. there could
not be hope of change in america.
the cancer of capitalism is too great.
this is not a free country.
but all is not lost yet -
obama can still man-up
and face the real music of truth and justice.
the thing is, he is getting tainted by the second.
the longer he hamlets on the sidelines,
the more the disturbed momentum accrues
against him. this once pristine prince is being
sullied by the moment.
the stimulus package is falling into the black-hole of capitalism.
the fact that all of us thought a depression could be diverted
may have been sheer ego. the death of capitalism by come upon
us all like a tsunami. there may be nothing any of us can do
about an insidious (yes, i used that word twice!) economic model
that allowed for greed and freedom, hoping for man’s highest
qualities, only to realize its darkest natures at play,
and it’s inevitable grotesque death.
america as we once knew it, is dead - thank god!
from the ruins, a zenith can rise.
obama must be the sherpa/shaman, to deliver the highest,
most evolved model of human society - one of degrees of capitalism,
yet the checks and balances of the societal saftey net of socialism.
a middle way must be forged.
but this is amidst the ruins.
obama must act now to save his integrity.
the way i see it,
america and obama are at a pivotal turning point -
the bottom is about to fall out of both of them,
and once it does, there will be no salvaging
either of them.
it will get ugly no matter what obama does.
he must land on the side of truth and justice
and go after bush/cheney and the treasonous
war criminal cabal. he MUST clear america’s slate.
he cannot have it both ways. he must walk into
the jungle and defeat the lion. if he doesn’t, he is not
the hero that america elected, and doesn’t deserve
his position or place.
the messenger of hope might become the global symbol of despair -
that no one has a shot against capitalism. that one must embrace
the evil or perish.
all the world now witnesses is:
the united snakes of america -
land of the slaves,
home of the thieves.
