Colbert: Obama ‘Stonewalling’ on advancing gay rights
It has been 40 years since gay clientele revolted against a police raid at a bar called Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. Stephen Colbert used the anniversary of the riots to highlight President Barack Obama’s “stonewalling” on promises to advance gay rights.
First, the faux Comedy Central pundit mocked the “gay exorcism” story by saying that he wasn’t worried about “gay demons” since he always keeps a copy of Wilt Chamberlain’s autobiography upon him at all times. It’s “the straight Bible” since the former basketball star claimed he slept with over 20,000 women in his lifetime.
Then Colbert “cheered” Obama for “finally doing something that I wholeheartedly support: infuriating the gay community.”
He then showed clips of gay activists such as Page One Q’s Mike Rogers talking about how Obama hasn’t delivered on all of his promises to the LGBT community.
Colbert chose “Stonewalling” as the night’s word.
“Calm down gays,” Colbert said, “President Obama simply has his eye on the big picture.”
After playing a clip in which former DNC chair Howard Dean and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow agreed that Obama was merely putting off actions such as ending the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy until later in his administration so that he can concentrate on issues such as healthcare first, Colbert noted that the president had extended benefits to same sex partners of federal employees.
“Not health or retirement benefits but gay partners are entitled to moving expenses,” Colbert said. “Nothing makes a group feel wanted more than giving them cash to get out of town.”

There’s a Ton O’ religious people in murrika, and religious people HATE gays.
So do blacks.
SO, it just makes sense to waffle on yet another issue……………
That’s ok. I’m “merely putting off” any further donations to the Democratic part and its candidates until I see some real delivery on changes that affect the issues I voted on, including LGBT rights.
I may “put off” voting for them in the next election too. Nothing makes a political party appreciate a voting group more than its ability to ignore them out of power.
Excellent suggestion!
That’s very sad, but there’s bigger fish to fry.
Sorry, that pathetic excuse just doesn’t cut it. The Dems have dropped the momentum and the ball repeatedly over a broad range of issues.
Gays aren’t going to sit in the the back of the bus any longer. We will continue to press for the same civil rights straights have. There no reason to slow that fight while we’re also working on other things.
