Bachmann: Reject climate change bill as ‘tyranny’
A bill intended to limit greenhouse gas emissions and create clean energy jobs has come under fire from Republicans, who insist it would destroy jobs while raising the cost of energy for consumers. Some, like House Minority Leader John Boehner, have even taken to describing the legislation as a “tax.”
Few Republicans, however, would go as far as to describe the bill as “tyranny,” as Rep. Michele Bachmamn (R-MN) did when she spoke on the House floor Friday in support of an amendment offered by Rep. Randy Forbes (R-VA). Forbes’ plan would scrap the current bill entirely and replace it with a “New Manhattan project” to offer prizes for inventing more energy efficient technology.
Bachman began by citing figures apparently taken from the pro-business Club for Growth. “We know that this national energy tax will cost the American people two trillion dollars,” she insisted. “We know that. We know this will result in a lost of 2.5 million jobs.every year. We know that. We know this will result in a reduced standard of living for Americans. We know that.”
At that point, Bachmann abruptly shifted gears from warnings of economic doom to threats of tyranny and totalitarianism. “But what is worse than this,” she continued, “is the fact that now, because of this underlying bill, the federal government will virtually have control over every aspect of lives for the American people.”
“It is time to stand up and say, ‘We get to choose,’” Bachman urged. “We choose liberty or we choose tyranny. It’s one of the two.”
“It’s our choice,” concluded Bachmann. “Will we choose liberty or we will choose tyranny?”

Now we can get down to the side business of printing the posters highlighting Rep. Bachmann as the poster child of “Self-Induced Lunacy”…
The disease is not curable and can only be treated with prolonged stays in isolated mental clinics…
The sooner she gets picked up and detained for her extended stay the better.
bwin: I don’t think you get it.
Bachmann is involved in domestic terrorist groups that are mainstreaming within the Republian Party, all the way to the top. Their goal is no less than to foment a civil war and establish a Christian dictatorship.
Her words are carefully selected to cater to these people, in order to radicalize them into action.
The high-rolling groups she is involved with back such a civil war, include “club for growth”, and others.
They have made it clear what they want, and don’t mask their words on tv, radio, print, or online. They aren’t afraid to say what they want.
The day will come when we will have to torture people like Bachmann in order to get to the leadership of America’s true enemies, and they are totally against the Constitution, and are so radicalized and indoctrinated, that they WILL have to be dealt with in much the same way that we are with the Muslim extremists.
Perhaps you should read it sometime?
lol..
I have: “to put down and suppress insurrections”.
Insurrections? Lol..
I was thinking more along the lines of: Cruel and Unusual punishments..
Putting a bullet in the heads of people like Chuck Norris, Glen Beck, and others who want to foment a civil war is EVERY American’s Constitutional DUTY!
I have some great video of Chuck Norris that should make EVERY red-blooded American patriot want to put a bullet through Chuck’s head as a FUCKING TRAITOR!!!
Glen Beck too!
Among others whom the Congressbitch is catering to.
You REALLY shouldn’t make comments like that, you know..
At least not out loud.
Why not?
I took an oath once that lasts forever. It said: “All enemies, foreign, AND DOMESTIC”.
That includes Christian Terrorists, and Christian Insurrectionists.
“Why not?”
Because it may be considered to be illegal. A threat of violence.
Personally, I don’t give a shit.. I think CN is a shitty little micro-faggot and Beck is an EMO crybaby..
But someone might.
Oh, and I suggest you read Yates v. United States, and Noto v. United States. Merely suggesting that it’s a duty to kill Insurrectionists under the Constitution of the United States of America doesn’t mean that I’m going to take preemptive action.
I’ll wait for the civil war to begin. Then I’ll kill every Republican I see, because I am PATRIOTIC!
Bring it on!
“Bring it on!”
Oh geez..
If I never hear “Bring it on!” or “Let’s roll!” again it will be way too fucking soon.
Good luck with your civil war.
You boys need to lay off the bug juice for a while.
“”I took an oath once that lasts forever. It said: “All enemies, foreign, AND DOMESTIC””
BTW, the military is effectively a form of welfare..
I’m glad you decided to get off the public dole and go get a real job.
We tire of clothing, feeding and providing care for those who cannot support themselves.
Bachman?
Reject Miss Bachman as ‘tyranny’ of the EXTREME RIGHT-WING
crackpots who ran America into the ground. Instead of
helping Americans, the Republican CRACKPOTS continue
WRECKING AMERICA.
If this bill passes, and there’s some question about what will happen in the Senate, the Democrats are going to wear it like a wreath in 2010.
People can’t afford another tax, ESPECIALLY not on something as vital as getting to work and heating their homes. They didn’t even READ the thing, they just lined up and passed it for ideological purposes alone.
It’s a huge mistake.. Americans are sleeping, but when they see everything they buy go up in price and when they see what is left of American manufacturing, and the crossover jobs associated with manufacturing, ship off to China (China and India have made it completely clear they they are NOT going to unilaterally handcuff themselves like this) they’re going to be fucking pissed and Barak Obama is going to look allot like Jimmy Carter in that stupid cardigan, ordering people to turn down their thermostat.
The BEST PART? It won’t help the environment! Not a bit! China and India will continue to burn every barrel of oil we do not.. They don’t care.
AND THEN, on the heels of this disaster, if the “public option” doesn’t come through in health care reform, we’re going to have ANOTHER BIG TAX in the democrat version of Mitt Romney care. That’s going to cost more jobs and it’s going to cement Obama’s legacy as a windmill tilting, Carter-esq clone.
AND THEN, people are going to learn that there’s no real re-regulation of the banking sector.. After they wrecked the economy, it’s business as usual on Mammon St.
Democrats REALLY need to stop and think about supporting this..
It’s a huge move with huge implications. It is not the slam dunk nor the panacea that some people like to imagine.
All the democrats have done since they got into office is chase one expensive, ideologically driven, agenda after another..
Beginning with the TARP (Which both parties conspired to screw us on) and then the wonderful Spendulus Bill.
People are going to get the idea that all these fuckers are good for is writing big checks for stuff that’s not of much, if any, use to average Americans.
There’s going to be a price to pay for that.. There always is.
Bush paid it, and he’s still paying it.. and he DESERVES TO PAY IT.. Sometimes stupid hurts, ya know?
Much more of this and I say the democrats are fixing to join the R’s in history’s shit bin.
Nothing of value was lost in either case..
PSS: AND THEN, people are going to find out that a bunch of people are making a shitload of cash selling and counterfeiting these things.
Unlike a tax, there is a profit motive here.. A BIG one.
They won’t like that at all.
Not one bit.
jhoffax: bullshit. this bill implements things that might have been appropriate in 1998, but honestly, are too little too late now.
this bill doesn’t go far enough.
OUTLAW COAL BY 2020!!!!!
eleven years is more than adequate for all of those redneck states to retrain their one-tooth bubbas involved with coal to do something else.
if they can’t keep up with the 21st century, they deserve to flip burgers. they should have done better in school!
remember, it’s the one-tooth bubbas that prevented action on this eleven years ago. WE KNOW WHO TO BLAME!
i might add, as a programmer and systems administrator, that all those one-tooth bubbas laughed when my jobs went to india. fuck ‘em.
“i might add, as a programmer and systems administrator, that all those one-tooth bubbas laughed when my jobs went to india. fuck ‘em.”
They laughed because of sentiments like the one you opened your post with. Remember, they were laughed at first.
High numbers of unemployed Americans is nothing to laugh about, regardless of who they may be or where they are from.
you are so full of shit.
limbaugh himself told us to quit whining and get a job at macdonalds.
i have no problem with republicans losing their homes, families, and everything they own. it’s what they wanted for us. they OPENLY said so, on TV, Radio, and even from the OVAL OFFICE under Bush.
“you are so full of shit.”
You’re an idiot.
If you recall when “Free Trade” agreements were being discussed, ti was the techies who cried: “Oh, no! I’m a fucking genius! I just graduated college and I’m getting flown around for six figure job interviews! Who needs manufacturing? They should have gone to school! Don’t expect me to pay more for a pair of shoes because you’re stupid.. My dad is a fucking fool who put me through college with his stupid factory job, now I’m a genius! Who needs manufacturing? blah, blah, blah.. ”
They were sickeningly arrogant, smarmy, self important know-nothings.. Everyone hated them.
THEN the tech bubble burst, and they babies cried: “This isn’t FAIR! I WENT TO COLLEGE! I HAVE STUDENT LOANS!”
And yeah, allot of people laughed.
They’re STILL laughing.
You deserved to be laughed at then. You deserve to be laughed at now.
These jobs used to be the jobs almost anyone could get and make a living on. Whining “Well let the poor eat cake then!” like a spoilt child won’t change anything, it won’t feed anyone all it does is make it obvious that you are a fool.
the average chinese makes 200 a year. i hope you can live on that. america has to be globally competitive. that’s what you guys said!
“that’s what you guys said!”
I said no such a thing..
I’m an independent.. I don’t have “you guys”
You guys have you guys.. You rabid, partisan party people.
Not me. I hate both major parties equally.
Well, you’re welcome to your opinion.. But remember that actions have consequences…
When you’re talking about hitting Joe Six Pack’s pocketbook, you’d better be careful.
Freezing people, unemployed people and broke people may not be as ideologically driven in this regard as you suspect.
according to glen beck and chuck norris, joe-sixpack is a fucking traitor anyway that supports a civil war.
why should we be concerned with one-tooth redneck bubbas in republican welfare states with not enough electoral votes to really be worth bothering about? they don’t like democrats anyway.
maybe if we cost them their jobs, they will remember that it’s the urban states (democratic states) that pay their bills.
let’s talk about taxes. i’m tired of my money going to assholes.
maybe we need to start keeping our blue-state money in our blue states!
go fuck yourself! your state doesn’t have an economy? not my fault!
why don’t you all go down to texas and seceed? of course, we WILL want OUR nukes, and our nuke factory, and our military assets out of texas, so don’t pull a fort sumter when we seize them after you guys do.
“go fuck yourself! your state doesn’t have an economy? not my fault!”
Ushering in policies that deliberately cost people jobs is a sure fire way to put more people on the taxpayer dole.
You may not like factory workers, but every one that has a decent job won’t be picking your pocket. They’ll be paying taxes to their state and community. They’ll be a net positive in every way.
Childish, foot stomping rants aside.. Disenfranchising anyone like this is detrimental to us all.
Americans need jobs.. Good ones. They power over two thirds of our economy.
You don’t have to like that, but it is true regardless.
All bullshit aside, my point stands clear. This bill is too little too late.
OUTLAW COAL BY 2020!!!
The opposition here (under false identification as an indy) is spouting today’s Republican talking points to the letter.
The opposition holds that because india and china “are going to spew as much as they can” that we should continue to be the leading source of emissions. Although that statement had a small grain of truth in 1998 when this last was debated, both china and india have since signed the Kyoto Treaty which is about to expire, and implemented their own plans to solve their problems (the chinese want to be the first back to the moon, and probably will be, and have mapped out 15,000,000 tons of He3 for use in fusion reactors. they say they only need 15 tons a year to generate all the electricity that china will ever use, and that the whole planet only needs 100 tons a year).
so, the opposition (jhoffax), is spouting bullshit.
he also misrepresents issue involving the jobs. note that it was republicans and libertarians that largely pushed the factories offshore, not just the politicians, the owners.
he misrepresents the republicans attitude to tech workers. republicans hate smart people, and it’s time for the smart people in this country to start hating at the same level. i personally don’t care if redneck bubbas lose their homes and families, hell, i’ll cheer that. payback should be a bitch.
since most of this country’s factories were located in democratic voting urban areas, his argument that the rural one-tooth bubbas that derailed any action on climate change eleven years ago were factory workers, i have to ask him to show his evidence, since all available evidence shows that rural red-state bubbas that derailed kyoto are not and were not factory workers.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT COAL IS THE PROBLEM, AND COAL HAS TO GO!
BAN COAL BY 2020!!!
(Want to be patriotic? Support getting to the Helium-3 on the Moon before the Chinese! Bush sold out all Fusion research to the French! THEY GO ONLINE NEXT YEAR WITH THE WORLD’S FIRST FULL SIZE FUSION REACTOR!)
Oh, and by the way, Bachman is sucking that TRAITOR Chuck Norris’s little prick!
Maybe you guys should get a room somewhere.
That is so wrong I don’t even know where to begin..
And yes, I am an independent.
This bill is a hidden tax. It will cost American jobs and further the same sort of trade policies that have gutted our nation. China and India have made it clear that they are not, in any meaningful way, going to curb their pollution. They are practicing mercantilism and currency manipulation to great affect. They won’t sink their own boat. PERIOD. China is building coal power plants by the dozen, right now. The pollution there is so incredibly bad, it can be seen as a brown cloud from space. Unlike a flat carbon tax, these permits will be counterfeited and a bunch of people will get rich on our dime by trading them.
Signed Koyoto? LOL! China is now the largest per-capita C02 emitter for power generation. They have stated publically that consumer nations should pay for production related pollution.
You are completely wrong.. The consequences of voting for this will be obvious by the 2010 election.
Either you are lying (as I suspect) or you are so out of date, you are using decade-old lies as facts.
China and India have both entered into Kyoto.
China joined onto it on 30 Aug 2002, and India on 26 Aug 2002.
What is up with you Republicans? You know everytime you lie you will get caught, but you do it anyway, becazuse of all of those one-tooth bubbas who get off on you saying anything they’ll believe.

Of course, an “expert” like you already knew that… NOT!
Go fuck yourself jhoffax.

Aren’t you missing your third shift at Malwart?
No, I close my business at 5 o clock on Fridays.
Are the cops still slapping cocks out of your mouth at the rest stop?
Nah they are busy slapping cocks out of the mouth of naked republicans in public parks in Georgia!

Chuck Norris sells exercise bikes to bachman and later sniffs the seats.
Now this is intriguing.
Lets vote ourselves another tax because we’re SCARED! The government will continue to dupe you all to expand itself.
Lets see:
War on Alcohol (Prohibition with agencies that still live on) = IRS, BTAF, FBI, etc.
War on foreigners =Government expansionism via CIA, NSA
War on drugs = Government expansion via DEA
WAR ON YOU…………. ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!!! They use all of these agencies on American Citizens.
WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!!
War on Terror = government expansion Homeland Security
yuvbinduped
BFD…STFU… FDA…FU…DOA….blah,blah,blah,blah !!!!!!! ====
Government….government……tax……terror…….SCARED
WAH,WAH,WAH……….dupe…dupe…agencies
Can we just give your RON/RAND AYN/PAUL a number to save space–hmmm, let’s say “14″.
Now, just log in……………yuvbinduped
then type……………………..14
DONE! Wasn’t that simple?
Ya know, this troll reminds me of all those McVeigh, Koresh, and Randy Weaver supporting TERRORIST-LOVERS under Clinton.
They always claim to be “Independent”, always claim that they NEVER listen to Limpball, but they somehow spout the RNC talking points TO THE LETTER!
Methinks that jhoffax and yuvbinduped can sum up their entire argument with three words, and save us their bullshit: “Mega Dittos, Rush!”
Speaking of TRAITORS, I can’t wait for the day that Limpball gets tortured to prevent attacks on Americans. He’s caused many.
Funny, that’s what your comments reminded me of. Inciting violence…….wow great job. I have heard of right wing radicals but I’ve never heard of a left wing radical. Your comments about killing Americans actually disgusts me. Albeit they do not agree with your point of view, that is a right that is protected under the 1st amendment which every American should hold dear, no matter which side of the fence you are on. Your comments sadden me as well. Is this what we have become as americans? Killing others for their ideals, labeling them as terrorists because their idea of freedom doesn’t match yours? You make me sick…
I never said anything about preemptive killing of Americans. I am responding to the mainstream republican party calling in all forms of media for a civil war to overthrow the government and establish a christian dictatorship (have i missed anything?), merely with statements that once the republicans start the civil war they want that we should kill them all.
fuck you.
and i think the answers are clear in yates, noto, and especially scales v. united states.
my speech is legal.
their organizing for overthrow isn’t.
my speech is patriotic.
republicans are traitos!
KIILL THE TRAITORS THE MOMENT THEY TRY!!!!
(according to the Yates, Noto, and Scales opinions, the feds can literally shut the Republicans down right now at this point like the commies were shut down, and for the same reasons).
the commies were made illegal (and such was repeatedly upheld) for exactly the same thing the republicans are organizing for right now: overthrow.
you traitors make me sick. i’d just as soon shoot you.
On the First Amendment argument you use, Please read Scales v. United States, fucking traitor.
So enderw you don’t believe we are victims of government expansionism? I bet you think Obama is running the show too huh?
You are too ignorant to comprehend the fact that this government is being run like a company and has since the 1870’s and creation of Washington D.C. which is corporate HQ. The President is just the “puppet” or spokesperson for the CEO’s.
It doesn’t matter if it is a Democrat or a Republican they are ALL controlled the moment they win the so called election.
You need to start thinking outside the box. THEY ARE!
You who call yourself dennycrane are just to ignorant for words. Hard to believe that there are human beings as ignorant as yourself. Must be Mad Cow
Did your brain get strained through the sheets when you were conceived? I thought so.
jhoffax
Just because I testified against you as an eye witness during your…..well, we’ll just leave it at that…..you need to stay on your meds, they help your illusions.
the best thing that the democrats can do is to NOT run anybody against her. let her be unopposed. she’s better than rush at separating the totally batshit crazy from the rest of us. she makes democrats look good every time she opens her mouth.
this minnesota skank has dome more for the dedmocratic party than anybody else in minnesota. she’s pure gold. and she comes at no cost whatsoever.
you DO have to learn to ignore her. much like rush and newt. but once you get past that, it’s all good.
Strip the climate change bill down to the basics…. it will create an artificial cap on energy supply. When you limit supply, you artificially increase the price.
One of the glaring omissions of the analysis of the cost of this program is that people’s only energy cost is home heating and cooling, and transportation. Everything that we consume, whether it be food, clothing, education (busing to school), will cost more if energy prices are inflated.
You may give tax credits, rebates, however you want to re-distribute the tax incidence, but you cannot limit the impact on the macro economy. At a time when our economy is ailing, we can least afford to be increasing operating costs (reduces jobs) when we already have a huge trade deficit with the rest of the world.
The bill also serves as a handout for big corporations such as GE. At the start of the program 60% of the carbon permits (whatever you want to call them) will be given away to existing businesses (logically politically connected ones will benefit) free of charge, and will later trade on a market. This is a giant subsidy to big business.
It’s amazing how uneducated most people commenting on this story are. It’s actually pretty sad. After all of this bullshit, many of you are still stuck debating left. vs right rather than constitutional vs. unconstitutional.
This government is being run like a corporation because it IS a corporation. Now our government owns GM. Hmmmmmm….
The United States has been incorporated since the 1870’s and the creation of Washington D.C. as corporate HQ. The President is just the “puppet” or spokesperson for the CEO’s.
It doesn’t matter if it is a Democrat or a Republican they are ALL controlled the moment they win the so called election.
You need to start thinking outside the box. THEY ARE!
Well said.
“Don’t ever bring that up in my presence again! The Constitution is just a goddamned piece of paper!” — George Walker Bush.
“I was a President for Republicans” — George Walker Bush, during his final Address to the Nation.
Bipartisainship died when Newt took over in Congress, and it was buried for good when Bush took office.
You Republicans know this to be true, as you ALL participated.
Remember how all you Republicans mocked and laughed at any Democrat complaining about the lack of bipartisainship?
Go fuck yourself, Fascist. We don’t have to play with you anymore.
I’ve personally seen Bachmann mocking and making jokes about Dems calling for bipartisainship.

Apparantly, Bachman and Micheal have the same doctor.

jhoffax made a couple of comments that deserve to be analyzed, as they speak volumes to our current economic crisis.
1. “We tire of clothing, feeding and providing care for those who cannot support themselves.”
2. “Signed Koyoto? LOL! China is now the largest per-capita C02 emitter for power generation. They have stated publicly that “consumer nations” should pay for production related pollution.
The two comments tie in together, especially when China states that “consumer nations”, which now describes the United States, was caused by outsourcing our jobs to China. Way back before wakeupwalmart.com was established, I was writing in regard the impact that outsourcing our jobs would have on our nation from an economic basis and the threat that was posed to our national security. Unfortunately, my rants of five years ago have turned out to be true - and I honest to God wish I had been wrong.
When the economy was supposedly doing great, I was almost a singular voice that predicted that we would experience economic problems - and I was laughed at; the country was still being run by the GOP and as history has verified - raped our economy to the point that recovery - if it ever happens, will take decades.
The “tax” that Americans need to endure is to force our corporations to bring back our manufacturing sector and quit supporting China. This nation cannot survive as a “service based economy,” and those that are losing everything can partially thank corporate America for selling out the American people. China exists on stolen economic secrets and espionage in the military sector - but we’re so indebted to China that Washington fears that if we implemented “protectionist measures” they would crash our economy. The concept of “free trade” is bullshit; free trade has cost us our livelihoods, the economy is already trashed - so why not take the actions that will significantly curb China’s growth and work on revamping our own economy?
We have a choice. We can either accept that we will slide into third World status or we can take it on the chin right now and attempt to rebuild what used to be the manufacturing powerhouse of the world. How are those Chinese products holding up for all of you out there? There is no substitution for quality and that vital element is not inherent in the Chinese manufacturing scheme; we know that most of their exports are junk, and you can’t even buy a coffee pot that will last more than a year.
Wake-up people, the US is being destroyed by China and the greed that is prevalent in almost every corporate giant that now are nothing but blood-suckers that thrive on the misery of the average American. We already have the laws on the books to help curb our demise, but no one in Washington has the courage to enforce our own anti-trust laws.
William Cormier
Nice try Bill, and you make some good points abpout the TREASONOUS Republican businessowners who would rather hire the communist chinese than hire Americans, but the fact remains that since August 2002, China (and India) have been playing by the Kyoto rules.
There goes your whole argument against action.
http://treaties.un.org/Pages/ViewDetails.aspx?src=TREATY&mtdsg_no=XXVII-7-a&chapter=27&lang=en
The US is NOT being destroyed by China. Nor is it being destroyed by India.
The United States is being destroyed by Treasonous Conservatives who are selling America out to China and India, as well as giving OUR jobs to the Chinese and Indians. The REAL ENEMY is AMERICAN.
And the REAL ENEMY seems to have MANY supporters seated in Congress. Yes, it’s time to have a major investigation into this.
Why does Bachmann cater to Insurrectionists? She is a TRAITOR!
Bachmann needs investigated!
Then, of course, there is the false police report she filed in Stillwater. Last I heard false police reports are a state prison offense in Washington County. (in reference to the “Attacked by Lesbians” false report, she later confessed publically that it was a false police report).
