Code Pink publishes ‘how-to guide’ for arresting Bush-era ‘war criminals’
CODE PINK Women for Peace, the activist group so often seen in the background of hearings on Capitol Hill holding signs or striking the ire of many a senator, is stepping out on a limb and encouraging its members, or anyone so inclined, to stage citizens arrests of Bush administration members.
In a “how-to guide” publicized in a mass e-mail on Thursday, the group cheered that “We’ve got cuffs and we aren’t afraid to use them!”
The citizens’ arrest, whether actually attempted or merely symbolic, is a long favored protest tactic of the group. In the past, CODE PINK activists have attempted citizens arrests of Karl Rove, political adviser to the former president, along with former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
Watch:
“Once you find a war criminal’s whereabouts, get a few members of your local peace community together to plan your strategy,” the group encourages its members. “Will you be buying tickets and going inside or staying outside with banners and signs, etc? Will you be doing a symbolic citizen’s arrest or will you actually be trying to slap the cuffs on ‘em?”
The group’s “how-to” for citizen arrests calls for hand cuffs, a few friends, a little bravery, some recording equipment and, of course, pink banners. But it also outlines the presentation of citizens complaints against individual “war criminals” from the prior administration. CODE PINK even outlines charges against the “10 most wanted war criminals” from the Bush administration.

That’s right!!! Run these fuckers to argentina where their forefathers fled!! And pray the Muslims have some Nazi hunters as committed as the Jews.
I’m a big, biker-looking dude, been involved in some protest actions.
But Code Pink makes me feel like a sissy.
These women have more cojones than the bulk of us, and realize that waiting for justice from the Machine of Injustice means nothing will happen at all.
Kudos to Code Pink!
When was Rove elevated to Sec of Defense??? You must me Rummy.
They do have balls…Huge ones..
You must mean Rummy. danm typos!!!
Bush to Cheney: “Dammit, why does life have to be fair after all?”
Make sure not to arrest any of our CURRENT war criminals, though. Just the ones from the previous administration. After all, we wouldn’t want to accidentally stop the Iraq occupation or the Af/Pak slaughter! Where would Media Benjamin get the cheap publicity she craves if that happened?!
i am a big believer in bounties. cash. moolah. the filthy lucre. paid upon the delivery of the person sought. it is legal in the USA. and it is legal in Spain too.
i wonder how long this asshole and his skank would be walking the streets of our fair land with a million dollar bounty in spain hanging upon his head? about 3 days. he would be knocked in the head and thrown on a lear jet bound for Barcelona. the spanish courts would deal with his war criminal asst he way Obama should. 3 hots and a cot.
i am willing to donate $20 a week to any bounty fund that will put it up to pay for the delivery of rumsfeld, cheney, rove, wolfowitz, libby, feith, bybee, yoo, and of course, that supreme asshole, W.
the question is, are you?
Bounties always work. Just imagine this hypothetical scenario: It’s 2002, and Bush actually WANTS to capture or kill Bin Laden.
How fast do you think we’d have had him if we would have offered the following bounty, no questions asked, money in escrow in a Swiss Bank:
Osama’s dead body: $10 billion
Osama alive: $20 billion
Every friend he’s ever had would have turned on him in a day. Everyone who knew his whereabouts would have been trying to get him. I imagine ideology would not hold a candle to several billion dollars.
No need to invade Afghanistan, no need to attack Iraq. But how’s a plutocrat supposed to make his fortune without perpetual war?
Would never work.
$800 Billion has already been spent on war since 2001. Without Osama, the Military Industrial Complex would have lost out on over $800 Billion dollars!
It would make more since for the military to spend $20 billion in order to keep him alive. Excellent ROI.
I was reading a financial analysis a couple of years ago. It determined that had the US gov’t simply bought off every Iraq citizen for $25K (or ~$100 per family) they would have thrown Saddam out and saved money without spilling a drop of blood.
These wars were never about catching someone (Saddam or Osama) they are about redistribution of wealth, petrol, and power. Putting a face on a wanted poster is intended to keep people distracted.
Yep, even in this economy, I’m game!!
But everyone rejected my idea of luring them to an airport outside of the US where InterPol takes them prisoner and drops them off at the Hague for trial.
Let’s be very blunt here. The US will get no respect from the rest of the planet until Bush, Cheney, Rumfeld, et all are in a World Court jail!
YES! Haunt these pig fornicating murders to their grave! The rest of their lives, they need to be looking over their shoulders for the next protester to proclaim their identity as fugitives from justice.
There is no such thing as a “citizen’s arrest”. I had a friend who held a trespasser until the sheriff arrived. My friend was charged with kidnapping and spent time in prison. (The prosecutor described my friend as a “terrorist”).
