Grumpy Fox host thinks Obama has ‘grudge against’ network

During a Tuesday interview with CNBC, President Barack Obama not only swatted a pesky fly but also got in a passing jab at Fox News. Now Fox is striking back with charges that Obama is just holding a grudge.

“I’ve got one television station entirely devoted to attacking my administration.” Obama told the interviewer when asked if the media needs to be more critical of him. “You’d be hard-pressed, if you watched the entire day, to find a positive story about me on that front.”

“We’re just balancing things out,” Fox host Steve Doocy insisted testily on Wednesday. “When you watch the other channels, the news channels, it’s all — you don’t hear a lot of the criticism.”

“Obama talks about the fact that there is one network that is fair and balanced,” continued Doocy, “and does hold people accountable — Fox — but does he mention the fact that there is one network that is devoted to absolutely being his cheerleader?”

This may have been intended as a slam against MSNBC, although both that network’s conservative host, Joe Scarborough, and the liberals Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow have been pummeling Obama regularly on a variety of issues.

“We could have been upset at this comment,” Gretchen Carlson added, playing a clip of Obama’s appearance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in May, where he jokingly suggested, “All of you voted for me — apologies to the Fox table.”

“He should come on Fox,” Doocy proposed, though he quickly added, “Maybe he’s got a grudge against Fox or something like that.”

Fox’s Greta Van Susteren had specifically indicated in her blog on Tuesday that she believes “the President is holding a grudge about our coverage for something that he ultimately agreed about — Reverend Wright and his incendiary comments. The President did not like that we held his feet to the fire.”

“We would love to extend the invitation to President Obama to come on the couch,” Carlson concluded flirtatiously.
