Military accepting neo-Nazis, white supremacists, probe finds

The US military has effectively adopted a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy concerning white supremacists and neo-Nazis in an effort to bolster recruiting and retention, an article published Monday says.
Numerous articles have detailed the Army’s recruiting woes in the wake of two ongoing US wars abroad. Soldiers are less likely to enlist — or re-enlist — when faced with possible death overseas, though recruiting has gotten easier during the current recession.
But the Army’s recruiting difficulties have opened the floodgates to those who’d otherwise be turned away: neo-Nazis, white supremacists and gang members.
Writing in Salon, reporter Matt Kennard says the decision to open the military’s doors has had “drastic consequences.”
“Some neo-Nazis have been charged with crimes inside the military, and others have been linked to recruitment efforts for the white right,” Kennard writes. “Many white supremacists join the Army to secure training for, as they see it, a future domestic race war. Others claim to be shooting Iraqis not to pursue the military’s strategic goals but because killing ‘hajjis’ is their duty as white militants.”
“Soldiers’ associations with extremist groups, and their racist actions, contravene a host of military statutes instituted in the past three decades,” he adds. “But during the “war on terror,” U.S. armed forces have turned a blind eye on their own regulations. A 2005 Department of Defense report states, ‘Effectively, the military has a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy pertaining to extremism. If individuals can perform satisfactorily, without making their extremist opinions overt … they are likely to be able to complete their contracts.’”
Kennard profiles one servicemember in particular - Iraq war veteran Forrest Fogarty, in Tampa, pictured above right.
“I was 14 when I decided I wanted to be a Nazi,” Fogarty says in the piece. “I became obsessed.”
In Tampa, Fogarty says he was expelled from high school after taunting African Americans.
“On the first day, this bunch of niggers, they thought I was a racist, so they asked, ‘Are you in the KKK?’” he says. “I said, ‘Yeah,’ and it was on.”
After his expulsion, he did odd jobs and started his own Neo-Nazi rock group, “Attack.” He also made friends in the largest neo-Nazi group in the country, which has called for a “long-term eugenics program involving at least the entire populations of Europe and America.”
Despite having obvious racist tattoos, as well as a long and colorful neo-Nazi background, the military allowed Fogarty to enlist.
“They just told me to write an explanation of each tattoo, and I made up some stuff, and that was that,”
He joined the 3rd Infantry Division in Georgia — and went off to Iraq — but not before his ex-girlfriend tried to get him kicked out for racism by sending photographs of him participating in white supremacist rallies and performing with his Nazi band.
“They hauled me before some sort of committee and showed me the pictures,” Fogarty remarked. “I just denied them and said my girlfriend was a spiteful bitch… They knew what I was about. But they let it go because I’m a great soldier.”
“I hate Arabs more than anybody, for the simple fact I’ve served over there and seen how they live,” he added. “They’re just a backward people. Them and the Jews are just disgusting people as far as I’m concerned. Their customs, everything to do with the Middle East, is just repugnant to me.”

In light of the current research on the ‘warrior gene’, which shows that some 30 per cent of the population is primitively predisposed to violence, is it any surprise that neo-nazis are flocking to the killing professions? I cannot see any real difference between any of those people whether they wear nazi ‘crooked crosses’ or christian ’straight crosses’.

It seems that there is a direct correlation between the depth of the slime and the need to believe that somewhere there is someone covered deeper with it. Too sad.
The really sad thing is that there are people who volunteered to to sincerely put their lives on the line to serve and then find out that the “leadership” is this kind of crap…they’re out of there as fast as their tour is up. And then, all we have left is the Evangelical fundies leading the neo-nazies and neo-conx.
I’ve had several of both my friends as well as my kids’ friends say liked being in the service and what it stood for; they left because of the fundies in leadership positions.
I’m not surprised in the slightest. This is nothing new actually. The armed forces are okay with this because once the particular supremacist is enlisted he has no choice but to coexist with peoples of other creeds and colors. In many cases, these people of different creeds and colors are higher up on the latter.
It’s one of those things that works itself out within the institution.
I feel this article is just trying to be inflammatory about a subject that dates back way before the US was even here.
The point of this besides inflammatory headlines is the military recruits poor ignorant folks who don’t have many options in life. There is no surprise that ignorant racists would be part of the mix. I don’t know why this surprises anyone since the military has been taking convicted felons and illegal immigrants since shortly after the Iraq War began.
It’s a good place for nazis, though. Put them on the front lines and if the Iraqis don’t get them, perhaps a little “friendly fire” will.

I read the article and it’s more than a social problem. There have been instances of White supremacists using their position in the military to acquire weapons and information to be used in there ideology. Also Lando, they aren’t thinking about when that white supremacist goes into the military and odds having that there will be a person of color in charge of him. They are just thinking about making quota for the month. I know from experience that having a superior that is a minority or a woman as a check on a person being racists won’t help. Because what happens is 9 times out of 10 they have a superior that is white and my be sympathetic to the white soldier and override what the immediate superior wants. You see if the soldier or soldiers have a feeling that they will be protected from a witch hunt by other white officers, they are free to do what they want. It’s not that the white officers are KKK or neo-nazi’s, its because they consciously or sub-consciously are sticking up for their “tribe”.
Racism is alive and well in the military, both in the officer core and the enlisted core. The military is a representation of the society that people come from. I think whats going to happen is when one of these groups do an attack in our country on a minority organization or a govt. facility using their military gear and weapons. These people are terrorists and we should be looking at them as if they are terrorists.

Former Soldier Timothy McVeigh didn’t seem that extreme compared to what’s happening now. War creates PTSD. An ounce of Prevention is worth much more than a pound of Cure in this case. Who wants PTSD? And like in WW1, for many there’s always that need to go back to the Front. Scary Times. Those tattoos shouldn’t be allowed in the U.S. military, I’m sure they are not allowed in todays’ German Military. No pro Baseball team would allow them. Great job catching up to the Nazi thing in the military, they’ve only been their primary resource for recruitment like 20 years. Almost every piece of shit I’ve ever known to join the U.S. army sports an SS lightning bold on their neck or some 88’s or swaztikas or a white pride on their arm and literally all of them steal hardware from the army, dream of using their training on those they hate and enjoy their time in the military because all of their superiors have matching tattoos.
I remember one Nazi (Aryan Nations) I went to gradeschool went (with an SS on his neck, he’s a cop now) joined and on his first leave he came back and was so excited because he met his first black friend (a racist) and they aggreed on everything. Separation of the races and whatnot, killing ’sand-niggers’, you name it, they were in love.

Good point satan, there are minorities that agree with their ideology also in the seperation of races and whatnot. The problem of letting these idiots (both white and black and other groups) keep getting into this belief and letting it flourish is that it leads to tribalism. And with all tribalism, their is always one tribe that is favored over the rest. And as for the black racists and his seperation of the races, here’s a diddy for him. There was the seperation of the races during Jim Crow, slavery, etc.. And look how well that worked out for___________.
