Churchgoers more likely to back torture of suspected terrorists: poll
Churchgoers are more likely to back torture of suspected terrorists, according to a new survey by Pew. Per CNN:

More than half of people who attend services at least once a week — 54 percent — said the use of torture against suspected terrorists is “often” or “sometimes” justified. Only 42 percent of people who “seldom or never” go to services agreed, according the analysis released Wednesday by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.
White evangelical Protestants were the religious group most likely to say torture is often or sometimes justified — more than 6 in 10 supported it. People unaffiliated with any religious organization were least likely to back it. Only 4 in 10 of them did.
The analysis is based on a Pew Research Center survey of 742 American adults conducted April 14-21. It did not include analysis of groups other than white evangelicals, white non-Hispanic Catholics, white mainline Protestants, and the religiously unaffiliated, because the sample size was too small.

Why am I not surprised at this? Oh yeah, the terrorists most often discussed on Faux News, Limbaugh, Savage, etc. are Muslims!
The religious love torture, they always have. Torture cleanses sin and prepares the unbelievers for heaven. Just think of the Crusades. And then think of the organization “Campus Crusade for Christ”.
“The more religious a country is, the more crimes are committed in it.”

Fundies must have a secret “thing” for The Inquisition. Check out Huxley’s “The Devils of Loudon” or Ken Russell’s film version, “The Devils.” The S&M component of religious fanaticism fits the profile of those who think torture is okay. Public scourging led to the formation of monasteries by the Vatican as a way of containing and mitigating the phenomenon. Fundies like Mel Gibson portray the brutality heaped upon Christ in exalted ways that border on the ecstacy of sex. These people need to get a clue: if you want frenzy, get drunk and worship Bacchus.
.
I am not at all surprised.
Disgusting.

It’s far easier to claim a devout faith than to actually trust in what it means to have that faith.
Remember: God is love.
No surprise: these mentally deranged freaks believe that as long as they proclaim Jesus as their savior they can get away with anything and still go to heaven — after they’re dead. How twisted can a mind get? This is institutionalized brainwashing run amok. John 3:16 my fucking ass.
No offense but … duh. Those sick fucks are no more christian than I am next in line for the Throne of England.
Gee, who would Jesus torture??
The late 20th Century German writer, Hermann Hesse, once wrote: “The problem with most Christians is that instead of taking the path Christ pointed out they have stopped to suck the finger that is pointing the way.”
Upon further reflection on this topic, I find that it brings to mind one of those most fervent, and revered, of christians … it’s only 2+ minutes but the last minute provides hours of entertainment!!

If you haven’t seen the whole episode, watch it - it’s a South Park classic!

Christians will someday need to divorce themselves from the Old Testament, a seriously immoral book, or else risk slipping into increasing irrelevance. Seems to be a wellspring for the ugliest human behavior.
Anyone surprised by this hasn’t been alive for the past 20 years. Just look at the bloody history of religion, particularly this filthy, disgusting, inhuman cult run by evangenitals. They are as immoral as any class of human on the planet, including the worst of the militant islamic radicals.
If there was a heaven, these people wouldn’t be seeing any of it. Religion has just become a tool to live out their sick fantasies with. They read their book of fables, and then don’t understand any of it. They twist and reinvent what was written to suit their own anti-human agenda.
How would Jesus torture? Who would Jesus kill?
Maybe these sorry excuses for Christianity should be forced to torture some terror suspect. And then see how they feel about it. Hell the same should go for capital punishment. Bring back public hangings and see if the “faithful” don’t all come out and have a picnic while another human being’s life force is taken away.
Churchies are all for anything that maintains their status quo.
The worst result for them will be if their bible is true.
WWJD? Can anyone else smell the hypocrisy?
Shows you that they are sickos
It all fits. From William Sargant’s book from 1957 the Battle For The Mind-Pavlov’s experiments for Lenin, church brainwashing and Hubbard’s 2 per cent of the population theory all have meaning for sheeples. Daily, we hear from these christers about their 2000 year old zombie that was “tortured” on the “cross”——Well, if it works so well, why didn’t we learn where the WMD weapons were by torturing Saddam instead of killing him?
You christers should think about suicide and get off our planet….
These are what should rightly be called “Old Testament Christians”. Consider the 25th chapter of Numbers:
Peter was one of those, early on at least, when he cut off the ear of the High Priest’s servant. but supposedly, he learned better.
This crowd hasn’t as of yet.
Oh, I forgot to mention, Jay Bybee and the two psychologists that reverse engineered the SERE program to discover the “techniques”, Mitchell and Jessen, are all three Mormons, no doubt protected by their Temple undergarments.
“did not include analysis of groups other than white evangelicals, white non-Hispanic Catholics, white mainline Protestants, and the religiously unaffiliated, because the sample size was too small.”
OK. Can we all stop pretending that all Christians are f’in crazy? I mean, it doesn’t fit the narrative, but “holier than thou” is a temptation for human nature…like even those who are not “Christian”.
It’s well known that all the most notorious torturers of the first half of the 20th century were the sort of persons who were VERY certain of their superiority.
They just didn’t happen to use religion as their excuse. Who cares?
Religion is just ONE way that people assert the superiority of their view point and excuse their behavior.
Can we pay attention to that? Excusing torture because of the superiority of one’s view has not been exclusively the modus operandi of “Christians”.
It’s bullshit no matter who excuses it.
No matter WHO excuses it.

Wow!James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen……..
I would like to know where these two narcissists live. Their “bishop(s)” should be notified about their actions. One of the questions asked by the bishop when members get their “temple recommends” is if they support the Constitution and are members of any group that wants to over the government——the church’s way of severing ties with groups like the “john birchers’ and “kkk’. The church keeps records and to bring this up puts a trail to their “secret combinations’. The beauty of it all would to put these bastards in the lap of romney.

Not only torture they are extremely attracted to pedophilia too. I just wish this evil cult would go somewhere and leave the sane people alone. How about Jonestown?
Going to church does not automaticly make you a christian, no more than going in a garage makes you a mechanic..Does this expain this..
